Ipod Software Causing Windows 2000 Boot Freeze

Hi All,
We loaded our new IPod software onto my wifes Dell 4100. After loading the software, the system will no longer boot. It freezes on the Windows boot screen every time. We've tried the F8 options and the system wont safe boot either. Help!
Rob

I'm having a similar problem. I may end up buying antoher hard drive and install the OS on it, using my current drive as a slave (storage) drive. this way I can get all of my files off of the original hard drive.
I have not found any solution to the problem yet.

  • Windows 2000 boot problem

I have just moved my system to the new MX-6585 board - Did an Windows 2000 "upgrade" to initiate total hardware scan.
System works ok, when it has booted, but booting is sooo slow.
Found a Microsoft article describing the problem:
    SYMPTOMS
After you choose to start Windows from the Boot menu, you may experience a long delay (or pause) before your computer finishes starting. Note that this delay may range from 10 seconds to a minute. Also, this delay occurs before the Starting Windows progress bar appears, and your computer may appear to stop responding (hang) during this time.
    CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Windows is installed on a drive or a partition to which Windows cannot gain access with normal Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) INT-13 or INT-13 extension calls. When Windows Setup determines it cannot use BIOS calls to start, it uses scsi() or signature() syntax in the Boot.ini file instead of multi() syntax.
My question is: Does MX-6585/BIOS in any way hinder the INT-13 calls to my Adaptec 2940???

Thanks! I sent the following message:
There are no IDE devices in my system, only SCSI. My hd is an IBM Ultrastar 36XP DRHS-36D. When I start the system up, the SCSI & MSI BIOS screens display normally, then BOOT.INI appears. After I select one of my NT-type OS's (NT4, W2K, WXP), there is a 30-second delay between the time I press the Enter key at the BOOT.INI screen and the time the OS actually starts to boot. (The BOOT.INI countdown time is limited to 5 seconds. I am *not* talking about this time.)
Since the same hardware was transferred from another installation (with a non-MSI mb) in which the same Adaptec drivers were used but this 30-second delay did not occur, the delay appears to be due to the MSI BIOS. Interestingly, W98 is also installed on this hd and it appears in the BOOT.INI list. When I start up W98, the 30-second delay does not occur -- as soon as I press the Enter key, W98 starts to boot.
Other end users have complained about this same boot delay. See the post "Windows 2000 boot problem" found in the MSI user forum here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=6970&boardid=10&page=1
I'd estimate our chances of success at 1%. Still, it's far better to complain and not be heard than never complain. That way, we get to complain even more.

  • Desktop software causes Windows 7 to crash

I have been using Desktop Software for ages now, very successfully on the Windows XP Pro platform.  I have now changed to Windows 7 Pro.  Although I have downloaded and installed the latest Desktop software build, which is supposed to be Windows 7-compatible, it is certainly not on my machine.
What happens is this:  When I first install the Desktop software, and start it, and use it to sync with Outlook, it works fine.  Eventually of course I shut down the computer at the end of the session.
The problem occurs when I next trry to boot up.  Every time I do this I get a blue screen crash long before any welcome screen appears.  The blue screen doesn't last long enough for me to read what it says but the effect is clear - no boot until a repair of some sort is done.  I have found that the only way to achieve a successful boot after this is to take the repair option and then the restore option to a time before installing the Blackberry Desktop software.
This has happened so many times now, with other software and hardware being installed at different times perfectly successfully.  Only Blackberry Desktiop software causes these crashes.  I have gone through this process at least a dozen times now, all with exactly the same effect.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

ive recently run into this problem as well with windows 7 on my gf's pc. both got 9700 bold's mine worked out fine with vista, but her comppy wont boot. bout as far as i can get from school is to walk her through booting into safe mode to uninstall the bb app til i can get home lol.. kinda screwwy that i cant really find much useful information about it in the past hour or so
about the only thing that has shown up was a 'problem signature 07' screen saying badpatch.. apparently no decent error code to lookup.. help!

  • Can not install the Ipod software on Windows XP SP2

Hello, I can not install the 'Ipod logiciel' [Ipod software?] for my Ipod Nano on my PC with Windows XP SP2. I don't have any error messages but the installation gets stopped just before its end. I mean, the Install Shield Program disappears while the steps "Publication of the product information" Does somebody know what's happening or where the problem might comes from? I would really appreciate your help. Merci d'avance,
    William

I have the same problem. The old version 4.7 works fine on XP but upgrading to version 6.0 or above gives me an error message that says ( The iTunes music library .itl file is locked on a local disk or you do not have permission for this file.) I bought my wife a Nano and the XP machine won't see the Nano, but if I plug the Nano into my Laptop with Win 2000 with the same 4.7 version of iTunes it will work just fine. The only problem is that all the music files are on the desk top machine. I can load the nano but I have to do it in a round about way. I tried updating iTunes about 6 different times with the same results. You must remove Itunes through ad/remove hardware in windows, restart win. then reinstall the older version. I tried the repair rout several times but that did no good.Good luck and I hope Apple can help us out with these problems!

  • 32Gb iPod touch makes Windows 7 PC freeze... Help please

My PC freezes when connecting my iPod touch. I am running Windows 7 that is fully up to date with all software patches and have the latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64Bit and iPod software is current.
I have checked out numerous discussions and have uninstalled and resinstalled iTunes numerous times, removed the "allow the computer to turn off this device." I have also removed the immediately synch iPod. Any advice would be appreciated.....

Ahhhh. That's one of the Elites with the MS-7613 Motherboard with a P55 express chipset. They were pretty cranky with the initial versions of their BIOS and Toyuch/iPhone connections.
Is your BIOS up to date at the moment?

  • Ipod works on Windows 2000 but not on XP

I have an empty Ipod click wheel unit . My Itunes library (about 1200 songs) is safely stored on cd's. I have Windows 2000 in the office and Windows XP at home. If I take the cd's and the Ipod to the office, I can get it to run perfectly. I restore the cd's to Itunes and upload them to my Ipod with no problems at all. When I bring the unit home, and plug it into my XP home system, it seems to have great difficulity recognizint the Ipod at all. The Ipod image pops on and off the my computer screen. If I fiddle with the Ipod for a while, just randomly selecting menu items, sometimes I can get it stabilized, at which point I get a message that it is sync ed to another computer. I try to resync it - sometimes it stays up and sometimes it drops out. If it stays on line, the Ipod sync window appears on the screen, and I get an immediate message "upload complete" from my empty Itunes library. I then load a cd to put something in the library to actually sync with, and it loads perhaps 10 or 15 items then I get a message "The Ipod - Patricia's Ipod can not be updated - The required file can not be found" It stops and nothing else will happen. I have tried different plugs, changing drive letter assignments, reloading firmware, complete restore, 5R's, everything I could find, but still I have no luck. My husband has a new Ipod video which operates perfectly with the same XP computer. So, why does it work perfectly with Windows 2000 and not at all with Windows XP?

Check your firewire connection and/or Windows firewire driver. This is done in Device Manager.

  • Charging iPod Nano on Windows 2000

I bought an iPod for Christmas and successfully registered it and charged it on my work computer which has Windows XP.
My home computer only has Windows 2000 and it won't charge on it. I know you can;t use the latest version of iTunes on Windows 200 but I thought you should be able to charge the iPod on any computer ??
    Any ideas or suggestions ?

I'm in the same boat as Noah (Win2K, charging problems, etc.). And the moment I unmount my nano (using either of the methods you mention above), it stops charging. At least I assume it is actually charging while mounted, because I have the lightning bolt but no way to see how much of a charge unless I unmount it. But I can't listen to music while I have it plugged in, and that is sure a disappointment. Apple people, please fix!
As a little aside, I don't seem to be able to choose whether or not to "enable disk use". The box is already checked and grayed-out so I don't have the option to un-check it. Could this be another Win2K weirdness?

  • Windows 7 boot freezes

When i try to boot Windows 7 it freezed with a white screen.  This happens when I use "Boot Disk" in Preferences or select the drive after booting with the "Option" key.  Any ideas, please?

msconfig / chkdsk / Windows 7 DVD system repair or rollback restore point
Ccleaner 3.09 - remove temp files and caches / also run Registry section
Start: Run %TEMP% (select all) and remove all the contents in there
Heat, fans, poor Apple drivers, I would not blame ATI but I would upgrade/install those.
And yes BC 4.0 probably was not tested fully.

  • Is the latest version of ipod software causing battery charging problems?

I have access to three different G3 ipods. All of them charged fine (either on AC wall charge or through firewire through the Mac. Now all three have the same charging problem after update to the latest Ipod software. All seem to recharge for only an hour or so then stop charging and show the large full battery icon but when disconnected show less than a full charge on the small meter. If you plug it back into the charger or firewire it will again begin to charge as shown through the large icon. Unpluging and replugging will eventually get to full charge on the small icon it takes at least three times to get it there. It's really annoying and based on the sheer number of posts about this problem, one must suspect that the battery management software must have changed. Has anyone noticed the same coincidence?

Is this problem related ot the 5G ipod?

  • Apple Software Update causes Windows XP to freeze

I received a package including Security Update for Quicktime 7.2 and itunes + Quicktime 7.4.3.
When I chose to install this I waited over 45 minutes for completion of the Security Update for Quicktime 7.2 package. This never completed. During this time, of course, everything else on the computer ran painfully slowly.
I then chose to Quit the installation. The rollback or cancellation of the package did not complete. My machine was nearly inoperable due to the impact of this package on my machine. I had to reboot to restore functionality of my machine.
What exactly does this package do? Send all my data to Apple? Snoop? Install Rootkits? perhaps my virus program blocked Apple from installing the malware...

The following document describes what that update does:
About Security Update for QuickTime 7.2 for Windows
Try rebooting the PC, and prior to launching any other programs, launch ASU to see if you can get the update. Does it go through properly this time, or do you still get the same agonisingly-drawn-out behavior?

  • Photoshop causes Windows 10 to freeze

    Hello,
I am running Server 2012 r2 Datacenter. The server has 32 gig of ram installed and I am using an Intel quad core E3-1220 v2 CPU which runs at  is 3.1Ghz. I am running Hyper V Manager and have one virtual machine set up specifically for design
and development work. The virtual machine is running windows 10 and has 8 gig of ram allocated. Guest Services is enabled. The client machine has two video cards enabled and in use. One has two displays on it and the other has just one. The default video card
is an Nvidia GForce GT 360 and the other is an AMD Radeon HD6570.
When I use Photoshop CS6 and try to enlarge some images for editing or if im trying to navigate around an enlarged image the system freezes and I find that the only way I can fix it is to exit out of my session and log into the server, access Hyper V Machine
Manager and shut the Windows 10 system down and restart the machine. Sometimes when I reopen Photoshop it tries to recover the session and the freeze happens again and other times it will work until I once again enlarge the image.
I have checked with some other forums and some have said that the issue could be the Hyper V Video system and other forums have said that it might be an issue with windows 10 drivers. I have yet to find a fix or find out for sure what is causing the issue.
    Sorry for the long post.

    Hi Sir,
First , you can create a new win8/8.1 enterprise VM to narrow it down .
Then please try to use RemoteFX to improve Graphic performance over RDP session :

  • Trying to install iPod software on Windows XP - keep getting Error 1607!!

We bought my daughter an iPod for Christmas. I've been trying to get the software installed for over two hours!! I've been to the website for the download, I've tried it from the CD, I've tried it from links in these posts--nothing works!! I keep getting Error 1607 (a runtime error). When I go to the step by step solutions, absolutely NONE of them apply to me. It sounds (reads) like alot of people are having this issues today. Has anyone found a REAL solution!!

Exactly the same problem ! Ruined my son's Christmas ! Can't get through apple's tech support due to high volume of calls. If you read their return policy if it's DOA(Dead On Arrival) your entiteled to a refund or exchange. Call 1800 275-2273, good luck getting through. I dont feel after spending that kind of money I should have to waste hours upon hours on downloads, upgrades and software installations and still may have problems once you get to I-tunes.They have a hugh problem here ! Hopefully they have a better consumer care policy and give people their money back ! Good Luck, AC
