Ipod software help
Hi. I'm running a PC with Windows ME and i want to know if there is any way possible to transfer music to my iPod mini without using iTunes because i need to have Windows XP in order to install it. I just need a way to transfer my music to the iPod with Windows ME without having to upgrade to Windows XP.
You cannot use iTunes under Windows ME, so unless you upgrade your PCs OS, you won't be fully supported and will not be able to purchase music tracks from the iTunes Music Store which is only possible through iTunes.
For just synchronizing music tracks with your iPod, you could get third-party utility such as XPlay or EphPod (Google for them and others) for handling the music transfer.

NOTE: some of the instructions are a bit dated for the new 2nd Gen Mini
(1h is not necessary & for 1b, you should download the Updater software not use the CD: Get iPod Updater ).

By the way, Norton Utilities may have been OK for the older versions of Mac OS, but it is toxic to Mac OS X. If you want to confirm this, a quick search for "Norton" in the Mac OS X v10.3 & earlier Discussions area will put your mind at ease.
Uninstall Norton (do not just drag it to the trash) ASAP. Get info or uninstaller here: Uninstalling all Symantec Macintosh programs using the NortonUninstall removal utility. -
Ok so I reset my ipod touch 4th gen and it got stuck on the apple logo screen and holding down the buttons just made it turn off for a few seconds and go straight back onto the logo screen, nothing was happening with it connecting to itunes either. But I held the home and the power button down at the same time while connected to my laptop and then when the logo reappeard I released the power button and it came up with with the itunes logo and the usb logo. It then allowed me to select restore on itunes which I did but a box popped up saying "The ipod software update server could not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." Please help.

Please Help! I've followed all update protocol and itunes 7 is installed, up and running etc, but..
I hook up the ipod and this message appears:
Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod "Kit-Ying's iPod" because your iPod software is too old.
I go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update.
I'm looking in the summary and it says 'your iPod is up to date' (so the update button cannot be highlighted)
The only other option is to click on the "restore" button, which I've done
over and over again... Only to get:
'contacting the iPod software update server'
And nothing happens.
I cancel and then get this message:
"there was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "Kit-Ying's iPod". The requested resource was not found.
Tried manually restoring the thing and as soon as I hook it up again the
same message appears (software too old etc)
Am I missing something here as I feel I'm going round and round in circles!!

in your "Summary" page, is itunes displaying the correct icon for your ipod?

I have a 4th generation iPod. My system is Windows 7, 64-bit. iPod not recognized in iTunes. It is in my computer. Also getting iTunes error message about cd/dvd drivers not properly installed. I've restalled 5 times and still not working. Finally got iPod software to properly install. Please help!

I tend to make my playlists right on my ipod. This did not happen for the last 2 years. Just started recently. Did get a new computer recently.That is because you got a new computer. You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. You can sync from any computer to iPod using the manual method but that does not sync from iPod to computer.

I have quite literally tried everything. My ipod touch just will not update.
My internet connection is more than fine, my ipod functions as it should, and I can connect to the itunes store.
It will not, however, connect to the update server.
I have spent around 2 hours tonight troubleshooting and i still have nothing.

Hello all, new to the forums.
I've been recieving the error message "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet". This problem didn't occur at all for the past 2 years of using itunes.
I've already scanned through numerous websites and forums for help, but none of them worked.
This set of instructions resulted in no change to any of the problems, though iTunes lists that as the supposed solution.

Others include installing IE7, which that didn't work either.

Lost iPod software disk - urgent help needed!
I've just got a new laptop and am in the process of transferring all my files across. I went to put in my iPod and realised I have lost my iPod software disk (the one that you get with the iPod when you buy it). Is there anything I can do to get some software and install my iPod, or is finding the disk my only way? :/ Please help!

(with iTunes 7.0.x, there is no longer a "standalone" updater application. ipod updates and restores are done with itunes instead.) -

Hi, It's been a week now since im having this problem with my iPod touch 4thgen 8GB. it says it needs to be restored but when i do so it gives me an error which says " the iPod software update server could not be contacted ". IPod Software License Agreement? Help!
For some reason when I plug my iPod video in, it won't come up with the contents of of my iPod or anything. When I click on my iPod in the device list it just shows the iPod Software License Agreement page. I've clicked the "I've read and agree to the terms" button and then clicked save, and it still does nothing. So I have no way of putting music or videos or anything on my iPod. Someone please help me.
Change your screen resolution.
Right click on the desktop. Properties>Settings. Move the screen resolution slider to the correct setting. Press Apply. -

I connected my iPod over USB 1.1, after realizing it was formatted for windows. iPod Software updater wont restore it over USB or something and quits when I try to update it. So I went to Disk Utility and erased the iPod for Mac OS Extended. Now it wont get to the menus, sometimes the folder icon pops up, and usually it stays at the apple screen while the HD spins. If I connect it to a Firewire mac and run the updater to restore it, will it work again?

That doesn't matter. It will work fine.
If it's formatted for Windows, you can't Update it on a Mac. You have to Restore.

Because it is a hard dirve in a case. It doesn't knwo it's an iPod. You have to run the iPod Updater and select Retore to install the iPod OS.
If I connect it to a Firewire mac and run the updater to restore it, will it work again?
Should do although I would try running the iPod Updater again with the iPod connected to USB 1.1. -

Help downloading ipod Software Update
My sister plugged in my new ipod nano to a PC and reformatted it halfway before she unplugged it. PC's won't recognize it, and my Mac says its windows formatted. I think restoring it is my only option. Unfortunately I live on an island and the internet is really slow (it says 10 hours downloading time for the 58MB of the ipod Software Update even though I pay the equivalent of 75 dollars a month for a cable modem!). I'm patient and wouldn't care so much if it weren't for the fact that the internet gets cut off every half hour or so, and the download starts back up from scratch each time (someone's got to tell itunes to incorporate a download manager!!!). I've been trying to download it for three weeks now and still have 0Mb of the download. Is there any way that I can download whatever software I need to restore the ipod through a download manager--I wrote Apple support about this but got no solution. I really don't know what to do. I will NEVER be able to download 58MB here. Please, please help.
That is what they call broadband in Easter Island, the regular telephone connection is 15 hours (we should all protest but that's another story). Anyway, I have a download manager called iGetter, I just don't know how to get iTunes to do the download from there since there is no web address to copy. Thanks for the free download manager web address though...any idea on how I get it to do download the ipod software update or any other kind of ipod nano restore software. Still, I read elswhere that you can only restore through iTunes, could that be true? I looked at the Apple Support Downloads section and there are updaters you can download but they don't support my 3rd generation iPod nano. I'm an Apple fan, I am!, but really, why does it have to start the download from scratch each time? I think more than just 1% of us would be happy if it the download started from where it left off, especially concerning heavy downloads.
