IPOD software makes my cd/dvd drive disapper

hi, i have had to re-boot my pc and when i was restalling my software for my ipod it causes my cd/dvd driver to disapper, when i called pcworld to ask how to re load the software without causing the problem they said to download the new software (7) online and that it solve the problem but it still causes the problem, does anyone know how i can re stall my ipod software and itunes without using my cd/dvd driver?
the ipod was working fine before re boot of pc and installed fine first time but not since.
any help would be greatful thanks

there's usually numbers after that.
the cruder technique involves a similar sort of edit ... basically it involves just deleting the upper and lower filters altogether. see this MS document:
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
(this is actually what Packard Bell was recommending on its support site for a while.)
if you try the cruder technique, you may get the following message next time you try to launch itunes:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a reseult of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
if you get that, rather than reinstalling itunes, try a "reboot and repair".
reboot the PC (very important), and then do a repair install of itunes.
go into your Add/Remove programs. select itunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
(you might also want to check to see if your other CD burning software on the PC still works. if it doesn't, head to Packard Bell, or the software manufacturer's website for instructions ... i believe that Packard Bells come with RecordNow 7.0.x, and that might be linked to your backup utilities, so it's probably worth checking.)

  • How to make the CD/DVD drive compatible on Satellite 5000-204

    Hi all,
I see a thread on replacing CD/DVD drive on this notebook, but it was closed, so i write this post.
The most of recent unit is "cable select" type and will not be recognized from many Toshiba notebook.
To solve that you must search a drive for which you can found a firmware update that change it to be "reverse cable select" type, as Nec or Optiarc
If you buy a drive that can't be recognize (like me) read below.
I succesfully replaced the DVD-ROM/CD-RW unit with a Pioneer DVR-KD08 DVD writer.
This unit is a "cable select" type (as most other recent unit) so it can't be recognise by this notebook (and many other Toshiba models). The solution is to connect pin 45 and 47 together on the drive or on the connector adapter (this second solution is simpler).
If you watch the drive from behind these pins are the second and third from the left on the upper row of pin of the connector.
In the connector adapter it's simpler to connect these pin (with care) with a solder iron directly on the circuit board.
Obviously on the circuit board the pins are the second and third from the right.
After this the unit will recognize ok.

    Hi buddy
First of all thank you for participation in the forum its always nice to have users who shares the own experience and knowledge.
Thanks you also for this info how to make the CD/DVD drive compatible.
But to be honest Im a little bit skeptical because there is a chance that the drive could be damage during this procedure.
So everyone could do this but only at the own risk!!!
Usually the compatible drives can be found in the user manual and it would be useful taking a look into the user manual before buying an NOT compatible drive ;)
    Cheers mate

  • IPOD software makes DVD drive disappear on Windows Explorer

Since installing the IPOD nano software and downloading the latest version from the net, the DVD drive on PC is no longer visible on Windows explorer and doesn't respond when putting a CD in the drive.
When running up the itunes software, it comes up with the following warning:-
Warning - The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers fro importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as result of installing other CD burning software. Please re-install iTunes.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with missing CD drive and the above warning.
I am not sure whether to just blindly re-install iTunes as it is obviously causing problems on my pC.
    Any advice???
    Cheers in advance

by any chance, is your PC a Packard Bell? if you go into your Device Manager (right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", click "Device Manager"), do you see a warning/alert message next to the DVD drive citing "code 41"?

  • Ipod/Itunes software disables my CD/DVD drive.

Guys can anyone help me with this piece of crap I bought my wife for Christmas.
WE installed the software initially correctly and it worked although an error came up with itunes. We have imported a heap of CD's and downloaded a stack of songs to the ipod.
However when we next started the computer the DVD drive was not recognised, the computer thought it was damaged or not connected. We uninstalled the ipod software but the only way to get the drive back was to restore the computer to a previous configuration. Then it wouldn't load the software again, itunes kept stuffing up. Fixed this by downloading the latest version of the software and itunes was fine but DVD drive has disappeared again which means we still can't use the stupid ipod.
Can anyone help. I don't really want itunes or quick time player as my default players either. I also have Windows Media Player and other DVD burning software loaded if that may cause problems.
    Gavin

Do not call AppleCare, this has nothing to do with your hardware and is not covered under your warranty.
If the file key you need is not in your backup contact the iTunes Store by going here:

  • DVD drive not recognised after initial install of software and drivers - Server 2012 R2

    Hi
I have a SATA DVDRW drive that isnt being recognised by windows server
It is recognised in bios, and was initially recognised by windows, until installing an AV on the server.
Looking under device manager, it can still be seen, but only as a hidden device (greyed out).
Both the C: drive and the DVD drive are set in IDE mode in the bios (believe that is just meaning they are sandalone, rather than RAID mode)
If the DVD drive is moved to another SATA port it is recognised by windows, however I want to keep these ports free, so i can use them to RAID my other HDDs as and when i get round to buying them.
    System specs:
OS - Windows Server 2012 R2 with updates (Microsoft Dreamspark)
    MB - ASUS M5A78L/M - USB3
    RAM - 1x 4GB DDR3
DVD drive - SAMSUNG superwritemaster SH223L
Any help would be good :)
soz if this is in the wrong forum, just point me to the right one
    Thanks
    J
Hi guys - thanks for the responses.....
we just tried something simple - swapping the OS drive and the DVD drive over (DVD was in sata 5, OS in sata 6 - now the other way round)
This seems to have worked, so we are going to keep it that way round
    Seems Silly yet simple
    Thanks again

hi, so you say that the drive will work in another SATA port is there the potential that the SATA port you are currently using has a fault? does it work with any other hardware?
another option is a classic windows fault regarding the corrupt registry filters that would make a CD\DVD drive disappear in explorer, however i am not sure if this problem afflicts sever 2012. you could give it a go to see if it resolves the issue
Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type regedit in the Run dialog box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type
    the password, or click Allow
In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters
registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, go to the next resolution.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Restart the computer.

  • CD and DVD Drives no longer visible in "my computer"

After loading the i-pod software, the CD and DVD drives are no longer visible in My Computer. They say they are present but not accessible.
Can any one shed any light on this subject
    Thanks
    Nick

My Father-In-Law is running into the same issue. He can use his nano fine, but he can't see his CD drive. He has discovered that if iTunes is open, then he can access the drive, but if iTunes isn't launched, the drive is not recognized.
He already had an existing version of iTunes on his laptop (it's an HP btw), and his problems started after he used the install CD that came with the iPod.
We are going to try and uninstall iTunes and then just download it off Apple's website to see if that corrects the problem.

  • I have Logic on my iMac and want to install it on my new mac book but my mac book doesn't have a dvd drive. I tried to download the upgrade but it looks for an older version. How do I get Logic on the Mac book ?

I would like to install logic on my new mac book but there is no dvd drive. I tried to downlaod the upgrade but that didn't work. How do I download it for the first time?
    Thanks!

You can only use the App Store version to reinstall on your new Mac if you bought Logic via the App Store in the first place.... and then it will appear under the Purchases tab in the Mac App Store App so long as you are signed in using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic via the App store in the first place.
If you bought the DVD edition of Logic Studio then you must initially install using those original DVDs to begin with and then update to the latest version of your version of Logic via software updates.
No DVD drive? Buy an external one.. Amazon do a very cheap basic one that works well..
    or...
Use Remote Disk if you still have your older Mac which has a built in DVD drive...

  • External 3rd party USB DVD drive will not show up on my 2008 Macbook pro

I have a the new Macbook pro, when I connect my Liteon USB DVD drive it does not show up my Macbook pro. The only DVD drive showing up is the one on my Macbook pro. How do I make the 2nd DVD drive show up. I just need to 2nd drive to tranfers data from dvd to the external drive.

Hi, ipodtrip1. Nothing will appear on your MBP's desktop unless there is a disc in the drive. Does a disc in the drive not appear either?
If not, does System Profiler detect the drive as a connected device?
If you have another USB device you can connect to your computer, disconnect the optical drive and connect the other device. Does System Profiler detect that device?
If not, reset the System Management Controller, and see whether doing so reactivates your USB port.

  • DVD drive won't play

Edit: Apparently it's not possible to list the maker of my DVD drive without being bleeped. I have edited the subject title.
I have a Satellite A105-S4274 with a Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ-841S ATA drive. I've never used it for burning any media, only watching the occasional DVD. But now it won't play any DVD, nor will it play any music CDs. I've also tried using it to read CDs and DVDs I've burned on my desktop PC, but the drive won't read them, either.
The DVD drive is recognized in the Vista device manager, which says it's working properly. It also shows up on Windows Explorer. However, when I put a disk in the drive, the light on the drive flashes as normal, but then stays on and nothing happens. When I use Windows Explorer to attempt to look at what's on the disk, it shows nothing.
Is there any way to fix this problem? If not, what drive will work as a replacement?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It sounds like a drive failure.  Replacement drives are problematic since Toshiba doesn't publish a list of compatible drives and it can be tricky getting a replacement.  There have been cases where even the identical make and model drive fails to work because of firmware differences.  The easiest, but not the cheapest solution would be to buy a replacement from a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider.  Those usually run around $400.  You can also use Google and search the net for info.  www.sparepartswarehouse.com sells all manner of laptop parts and would be a good place to start.

  • G4 Yikes and dvd drive

    Hello anyone,
I have a G4 Yikes and wish to install Tiger ( OSX 4). Any suggestions
as to best way to accomplish would be appreciated. I am considering
upgrading the system with a DVD drive. Would internal, or external,
drive be better. Can system be booted from an external drive, if that
    is best way to upgrade?
Appreciate any help on this matter.

Hi, and welcome to the Discussions!
Your Mac is not capable of booting from FireWire, so an external optical drive for the purpose of installing an OS wouldn't be practical.
One approach would be to purchase Tiger and then use Apple's Tiger DVD-CD exchange program and use CDs. Check out the "Get CD media for $9.95" link here. You can double-check the system requirements against your Mac's specs while you're there...
You could also get an internal DVD drive first, especially since DVD install disks are becoming more prevalent and this will issue will probably come up again in the future. You may have to add OS software support for the DVD drive (which probably wasn't loaded on your previous OS X install), but this could be done with Pacifist, a third party utility which extracts and installs individual software packages from your current install disk.

  • Had to reinstall iTunes 7.02 and now my DVD drive Icon is changed.

    Hi Everyone,
I had to re-install iTunes 7.02 (the latest version) because when I wanted to update album art on my iPod it errored out "Unknown Error -50). Reinstalling iTunes fixed that problem and I didn't have to restore my iPod. BUT now my DVD drive lost it's icon, it used to be one that looked like a box with a cd on top of it, now it is a box with what looks like a floppy drive on it. It works ok and I can right click on it and it is still known as a DVD drive and this is just a cosmetic issue I know, but still it isn't the right icon for this drive. I have tried the Autoplay fix program from Microsoft but that doesn't fix it. I have tried the Tweak Windows XP Repair Icons function and that doesn't fix it either.
I have an Insignia D400A with a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor and two 512 MB sticks of RAM and the op sys is Windows XP SP2.
Is there a way to fix this icon problem?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Just a bump on this, anyone have any ideas??

    Hey there...
I recently used the little software button called "CD/DVD Drive Acoustic Silencer" to quiet the CD Drive whilst playing a CD.
Before this, a DVD would play fine... now... a DVD wil stutter, this is in ANY player. WinDVD5, Windows Media etc... I have clicked "Normal mode" hibernated, rebooted, turned off... nothing seems to work...
DVDs still skip... any help on this issue?

    Hello Danny
Which notebook model you have exactly? Was this software already preinstalled on your unit or you have installed it on your own?
Try to use system restore utility and roll back the system to earlier time. I dont know if this will help but you can try it.

  • Windows dvd maker does not recognize the dvd drive in this computer

I have windows 7 release candidate on my old desktop and this newish notebook. Windows DVD maker works fine on the desktop but on this Lenovo 3000 N200 it will not recognize the built in dvd drive. I have checked with Device Manager and the software is up to date and the device is working normally. I can make DVD movies using a free program called DVD Flick. DVD Flick recognizes the DVD burner, so why won't Windows DVD Maker work??

    Hi Ppprrrggg,
The following information was copied from Troubleshoot problems with creating a DVD-Video using Windows DVD Maker
My DVD failed to burn. What can I do?
Try one or more of the following:
Verify that the DVD burner is connected properly to your computer and powered on, and that any necessary software drivers for the DVD burner are installed. You can check your hardware settings in the Device Manager by doing the following:
    1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2.
    Click Hardware and Sound.
    3.
    Click Device Manager.
Make sure that the videos you're trying to burn are not corrupted. To see whether the videos you want to burn are corrupted, try playing or viewing them using Windows Media Player. If the files don't play using the Player, Windows DVD Maker cannot burn them.
Choose a slower burning speed for your DVD burner by doing the following:
    1.
Return to the Add pictures and video to the DVD page, and then click Options.
    2.
In the DVD burner speed box, select Medium or Slow.
     Does it work?
    Thanks .
I uninstalled DVD Flick and followed the steps above but no luck.....any other ideas??? Apart from the fact that Windows DVD Maker SHOULD work I find it extra annoying because I think it is a very good program....it's better than DVD Flick, and besides not wanting to fork out money I would prefer to have nothing to do with programs like Nero.
    Hi,
When you click DVD Maker-what exactly happens?Or what kind of error is?
    when i click dvd
when I click dvd burner I select videos 2 burn.....videos I can watch on windows media player. After selecting the slowest burn speed I click on ''burn'' just like I do on my 7 year old desktop (which will then burn a dvd movie). But on this notebook I get a little window......''windows dvd maker''. It reads ''dvd burner not found. A dvd burner was not found. Make sure a dvd burner is connected and installed then try again.'' How useless is that???!!! I find it hard to believe this problem cannot be solved. Also I don't believe I can make the problem any clearer!!! Windows has no problem finding the dvd drive if I want to burn a data dvd so how come I can't burn a dvd movie using windows??? please help!!!!!
