Update Server
Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem -
still stuck in recovery mode..says ipod software server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable
Apple support is useless...apple is going down hill fast...nothing but problems with several products....so you know what apple can do....

IPod software server could not be connected
I receive this error when I try to update my iPod. I confirm that my internet connection is live before I do so. My link to my wireless router is broken after I get the error message. There is probably a way to reconnect it but the only way I know is to reboot. When I shutdown I get a blue screen with DRIVERIRQL_NOT_LESS_OREQUAL. It references a USB port, the one my iPod is connected to, I suppose.
I used to be able to update my ipod on this PC and can still do so on my laptop. I set all my IE settings on this PC to be the same as my laptop.
My windows firewall is turned off and I tried the update with my symantec internet security software turned off. Same error.
I updated all the hardware drivers on my PC. Same error.
I followed the instructions in Article 304468 which says to validate that the LAN auto detect is on. Same error.
As per article 93698 I deinstalled:
iTunes
Quicktime
Apple Software update
Apple Mobile Device support
Bonjour (although not referenced in the article I noticed that it got installed the first time I deinstalled and reinstalled iTunes)
I killed all processes related to these before deinstalling them. Afterwards I deleted all related folders in the program directory, all temporary files and all files in trash.
After reinstalling iTunes I got the same error.
I use Internet Explorer as my default browser as recommended in another posting.
I turned off the "Check for publisher's certification revocation" in the IE Advanced Security settings as recommended in another posting.
I use IE version 7.0.5730.13 and Windows XP pro version 2002 service pack 2.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.Update Server

I get this error message when trying to upgrade software "The Iphone update software server could not be contacted" Can anyone help?
I'd start with the following document:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server -
Message saying "The iTunes software server could not be contacted."?
I'm trying to restore an iPod touch that has been locked forever and I can't remember the passcode. When I connect the iPod to iTunes, and hit the restore button, I get a message that says "The iTunes software server could not be contacted." Then below that is says to make sure that my network settings are correct, which I've done, and that the connection is active, which it is.
Have you tried the following troubleshooting document?

The iPhone Software server could not be contacted
My friend just sold me his iPhone 3GS since he is buying a new one. He says that I need to update the OS version of the phone to iOS 6.0 by using iTunes.
I downloaded iTunes and tried to update it but it now says the error:
/quote
The iPhone Software server could not be contacted.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.
/unquote
I have read some existing queries regarding the above error and I have did some of the workarounds mentioned but it is still not solved. My network settings are updated, network carrier is correct even the ICCID displayed is not blank.
Below are the data when my 3GS is connected in iTunes:
Name: iPhone
Capacity: 14.28 GB
Software Version: 4.3.2
In phone settings
ICCID: 8963 0313 3180 7298 4798
Carrier: SMART
BTW im from the PhilippinesDid you ever use your computer to hack or jailbreak any iOS device? If you did your hosts file is corrupted, and you will have to fix it. If you are sure you never used iOS hacking software of any kind then the previous post about antivirus is your next choice.

You need to contact iTunes support and send an email by following the link I posted.

Hi, please help me
When my iPod was 'preparing for update' my iPod USB accidently fell out. I turned it on and a usb sign and an arrow to iTunes came up, so I plugged it in. It comes up with a message saying iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode, You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. After that, I clicked restore and it said 'The iPod software server update could not be contacted' and that's it!
I've tired,
Resetting my iPod (the usb to iTunes sign still comes up)
Holding down the Home and Power button at the same time for many seconds
Restting my computer
Going into LAN settings and changing that
Please, I really want it too work as I just got it today for my birthday
Any help would be much appriciated, thank youYu can try here. However, other users been having the same problem so it may be due to a problem with the Apple servers.
