IPod Software Suggestions

Suggestions for future iPod software versions:
1. An option for the backlight to stay on when connected to power source (would be useful when using iPod in car).
2. While iPod is playing a playlist, when you go to the Music > Artists, Albums, Genres, Composers menus, instead of the first song in the list being highlighted, it would find the artist or album currently being played.
Just a couple of suggestions this user thinks would be useful!

Those are some good ideas, but i dont think that it would be classified as a question

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Problem downloading iPod Software / Network connection could not be made

I am trying to upgrade to version 1.2.1 of the iPod software. I am using version 7.0.2 of iTunes. Whenever I connect my iPod it indicates that there is a newer version of the iPod software. Whenever I try "download and install" or "download only", I get the following error message: "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod 'My iPod'. The network connection could not be made.".
I am able to get on the internet in my browser and I am able to get to the iTunes store just fine.
I checked the solution at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304468, but this article isn't the same error message as the one that I am getting. Note: I did try the solution stated in this article and it didn't help.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    1. Purchased category is only for media, I think.
    2. Applications is for Mac OS X applications only.

  • How do I update iPod software B4 using w/Yamaha YDS-10 Uni Dock 2 see photo

We purchased a Yamaha AV Receiver and after we purchased our iPod, the folks at Circuit City told us we needed to purchase the Yamaha YDS-10 Universal Dock for iPod. We can play music just fine, but can't get back to the main menu which begins with Music, Photos, etc. We can only get to the menu beginning with Playlists, Artists, etc. We called iPod help and they determine it was not an iPod issue and said to take the unit back and get a new docking station. I found the manual for the docking station and it states:
It is recommended that you update your iPod software before using it with this unit (YAMAHA YDS-10). The update for the iPod software is available at the Apple website.
I can't find the software update and would greatly appreciate any help/assistance anyone can provide. We just want to be able to view our photos and the occasional movie now and then. Thank you in advance for all your help.

thanks for the suggestion. This was just a simple tutorial on doing a regular restore through Apple. I've tried that already and it doesn't work. I'm sure that Apple downloaded the iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) through my iTues. When iTunes tries to install the firmware on my iPhone, however, that's when the errors start popping up. When I try restoring in DFU mode, my iPhone gets stuck in rebooting over and over again.
It seems like I'm getting some kind of error even before it starts putting any firmware on my iPhone. I've never got to the part where there is a progress bar underneath the apple logo. Any other suggestions?

  • IPod software on Leopard DVD

I might potentially have a problem with the USB ports on my MBP. (they both stopped recognising USB flash drives).
Also noticed that they didn't recognise the iPod.
I thuoght a PRAM reset had fixed it - the USB drives are working again, and iTunes fired up when I connected the iPod.
However, it didn't want to talk to the iPod, and I got an error message that mentioned faulty USB ports as a possible cause.
It did however suggest reinstalling some iPod software from Leopard's second DVD.
Is that the same software that should be on the disk that came with the iPod, or anything that should be downloadable from the Apple site?

I managed to find my Leopard disc so installed it from that. It didn't manage to associate the iPod with the iTunes library, so had to erase and sync again, but at least it seems to be working.

  • Cannot restore ipod software

I need to restore the ipod software on my nano. The computer is recognizing my ipod when I connect it through the USB, and the updater program starts on its own. I clicked on the "restore" button, however, after about a minute I got an error message that says "Firmware Update Failure. Disk Write Error." and then I could go no further. I tried reinstalling the updater software, but that didn't help. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem?
    Dell Dimension E510   Windows XP

I tried reinstalling the ipod updater and the itunes software as suggested on the link from Zevoneer (thanks, by the way), but that didn't work. I turned off the firewall and the virus software and tried reinstalling the ipod updater and the itunes software, and that didn't work. At one point, the updater did recognize my ipod, but then it gave me that same "firmware" error message again.
Now the ipod updater will not even recognize my ipod at all. Then the updater freezes and I have to use ctl-alt-delete to go to the task manager to exit from the program.

  • Can't re-install iPod software

I recently made a clean installation of my system software (10.4.2) and as a result I need to re-install my iPod software. I have a 3G 20GB iPod, and when I try to install the software from the CD I get a message saying I need to install OS X Networking Update. The only reference I can find to this is Networking Update 1.0, which appears to be for a much earlier version of OS X. Should I install this update and if not, how do I re-install my iPod software?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chuck
Installing the latest update from the link that you provided was the first thing I tried, but unfortunately for some reason it wouldn't install on my Mac. The Easy Install option told me that the update couldn't be installed as there was nothing selected; Custom Install wouldn't allow me to check either of the boxes (they were both greyed-out and unchecked) and, thus, it couldn't be installed that way either. This was why I had the idea of going back to my original installer CD and taking it from there.
Thanks for your suggestion anyway – I'll keep trying.

    Hi there,
Since days I try unsuccessfully to download the iPod software version 1.1.1 for my brand new iPod nano 8GB. I allways get an "unknown error -23" after having connected to the download server. My internet connection is absolutely fine.
Any suggestions how to get the latest software version?
    Thanks!

I don't think you're getting this error message, but try these steps anyways...

  • Problem Updating iPod software on iTunes

I am having problems updating my iPod software through iTunes. As soon as it gets to the end of the download, an error message comes up (-48, I think) that states there was an error in downloading the update. It suggests to check my internet connection or try again later. It happens everytime. I have a very stable internet connection and my iTunes software is version 7.1.1.5
    Please help me! Thank you.

  • Ipod Software Version 1.1.2 has rendered Ipod useless

I've had troubles with new Ipod software every time I install it, I don't know why I installed another new crappy update that gives me nothing but pain and agony but here I am.
I have a 5th generation 160GB Ipod that has worked just fine and dandy up until today when I updated it to version 1.1.2. Now it tells me i need to restore my Ipod and when I do this, it goes through the restore process then tells me I need to restore my Ipod AGAIN! I've been through this neverending cycle at least 20 times. I've tried the new version, the old version. I've tried the 5 R's, I've restarted my computer twice. And still it continues in this same incessant loop.
    Help?

I am having the same exact problem! it comes up with a cannot read contents of ipod. restore... blah blah blah, we all get it. it will freeze up my itunes and other programs if i try to open them when it is plugged in.
I do not suggest sending it in for service. i did and they just sent it back to me telling me that nothing was wrong with it and they charged me like 60 bucks. that made me so mad.
Stupid itunes 7.6 is just crap.
I hope they fix it soon.

  • Updating to ipod software version 1.2.1.

I have just bought a new ipod (5th generation) and am prompted to update to version 1.2.1., when synchronizing with my computer. However, despite having no internet connectivity problems for anything else I get the following pop up message.
'Itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet.
Make sure your internet connection is active and try again'.
Can anyone suggest how I could solve this?
    Many thanks,

  • IPOD Software Updater- "Restore" not working

The IPOD software updater will not allow me to restore my Nano.
Both the update and restore buttons are not "active". The updater prompts me to plug in my Nano and automatically attempts to update my Nano which isn't necessary since there's no new update.
This caused the "Do not disconnect" message to appear for a long time until I turned it off.
Any thoughts, suggestions...would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks-

Fixed! I had the same issue and have fixed it... for now!
Let me go into the details...
My wife and I just received our new Nanos. Her's has been exhibiting strange behaviour so I have tried to restore.
On her latop, the latest iPod Updater did not at first 'see' the Nano whereas on my laptop, it sees the Nano and starts to restore then stops when the progress bar gets to the 'd' of "iPod". I have had to force quit and try again and each time it gets fo far and stops.
By putting the Nano into Disk Mode, I can get my wife's laptop to "see" the Nano and, once again, it stalled at exactly the same spot. I force quit the update and tried and again... and it worked this time!
The only difference this time was that I was holding the Nano in my hand. I can see no reason why this would be relevant unless the connector had been ever so slighty lose, though this is a long shot.
So, I am back to having 2 functioning Nanos... for now!
    Best Wishes
