  • Ipod Software Update: Error 1432

Can anybody help? I've tried to upload the last two software updates to my Ipod without success. The last time I've tried, I've got an "unknown error" (1432) message which I can't seem to find any info on. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Sorry, I can't help but I have a similar problem. "The iPod <iPod name> could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1432)." My 30GB iPod video (5th generation) crashes whenever I try to sync it. I either get the error dialogue, or the 'device removal' dialog box after roundabout 4 minutes. But the connection is all right. I even tried a different cable. And a different computer. It mounts perfectly, starts to sync my library, but gets stuck after syncing a few songs. I thought the songs might be corrupted. So I tried sync my photos, not my music library. But the outcome is the same. Tried to restore. Worked once. Later, when I tried to sync the same s**t happened again. Now I can't even restore the iPod anymore, because the errors occur before the iPod can be restored. Tried to reset the iPod. Nothing. Tried the diagnostics, manual and auto. Auto shows M25 diagnostics 0.7 completed PLL: 0. Does anyone know what that means? The manual diagnostics for memory results in "Checksum=0x0CFF" for flash and "RUN: BL on / PASS: BL blink / FAIL: BL off" for SDRAM... Does that mean the memory is f**ked? Once I restart the iPod it works fine, I can navigate thru the menus etc. (Pointless without music on the iPod and without the possibility to sync...)
If the RAM was broken the iPod shouldn't boot at all, am I right?
    Can anyone help???
I am getting frustrated... the iPod is just a little bit too old for warranty!

  • Software Update error message

I'm running Panther 10.3.9 and when I did the Security Update this morning, after the restart I got an error message that said: System extension cannot be used. The system extension
"/System/Library/Extensions/dfe530txp.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product's vendor for an update.
That's happened almost every time I did the security update for months, but I didn't know what it meant or what to do about it so I've ignored it until now.
However, I have my new Tiger disks and I want to update from Panther to Tiger today and thought if this had to be addressed first I'd better ask about it. Perhaps updating to Tiger will take care of it?
Also should I run disk utility on my 10.3.9 first?
I will ask some questions about actually installing my Tiger in separate questions But should I be asking the update installation questions in the 10.3.9 section or the 10.4.6 section?
I'm no whiz kid and really don't want to goof things up.

Well Cornelius - how I wish I had listened to you. Upshot of a long afternoon, including 2-1/2 hrs on phone with applecare is that I cannot open my OS X. The last thing I did at their suggestion was an archive and install again - but they of course were closing and couldn't stay on the phone until it got thru. They gave me a case number and I'll be calling them again tomorrow because the 2nd install was like the first. It wouldn't open.
What happened is that everything appeared to be going well. The install checked the install disk. It checked my target disk. It did the easy install as I'd said. It got through, the little blue bar was full, it said it would restart in 30 seconds - or some such. I saw the restart button. It was pulsating. The screen went black, came back on with it's bong. But then there was no "ping" that I usually here. Got a gray screen - first with an apple in the center and the little cog wheel under it going round and round. Then the apple changed to a circle with a line thru it. It kept going and going and going - - nowhere - for 15 minutes I kept my fingers crossed.
I gave up and called them. Went from person to person to person (two segments of 15 minutes wait in between the first two). The third person had me:
Turn off the power to the computer. Turn it back on. Nothing different.
Unplug everything from the back of the computer. ethernet cords, usbs, firewire, monitor, hub - everything. Waited a minute and plugged it all back in.
Tried starting with holding down the apple option P R.
Tried starting holding down just the option.
Turned it off again and turned off the power for awhile. Started it again and my gosh - it started up in OS 9! I haven't been in there forever. I went under the apple to control panel to startup disk. The os 9, os X (which did at that point show version 10.4.6), ox X install disk. I selected my OS X and hit restart.
It restarted - and did the same thing.
At one point - don't remember what we did before that, the three icons were up together. Two arrows under them - one kind of in a circle, the other pointing straight to the right. The install icon and os 9 icon were light. The os X had a dark background. Tried to click on it. Nothing. Tried to click on the os x install disk - it turned dark and my x turned light.... until I clicked on it again at which time they reversed.
Shut down again and started up from the install disk holding down the C. He had me pull up the disk utility - was able to highlight my OS X and run repair disk. It came up needing no repair.
That's when he said to try the install again. Went through it all. Everything was the same - got to the restart countdown. It restarted with a bong and then again the gray circle with the line thru it and the cog wheel going round and round and round.
They did give me a case number so I can call back again tomorrow but I really don't know what could be left to do. Pretty scared here.
Also am going to need my new printer hooked up. Planned on hooking it up to my G4 because my macbook can print thru the wireless network. My G4 does not have wireless capabilities so I don't think I'll be able to print from it (assuming I get it running again) if I have the printer hooked up to my macbook - or my netgear router... not really sure where I'm supposed to hook it up if not to my G4.
I did transfer a couple of my applications from my external hd to this one - one of them being my Eudora (which I actually had already installed on this one I think) - just to try it - and you're right it didn't work. Just a little needle wiggling back and forth.
Guess tomorrow's another day.. but if you have any thoughts on anything to try they didn't bring up - would appreciate hearing them. Oh yeah - my install dvd is still in the drive of course. Can't get the door open with the button even when I turn the computer on. The eject key on the keyboard won't work either.
I did notice somewhere along the way that my available GB on my OS X is now down to somewhere under 5, while it was just under 10 GB to begin with. The dang new systen has to be on there just like the Version number said. But it won't open.
You told me something could happen. Wish I'd listened.
Should I be putting this on a new thread?

  • ITunes fails to connect to store or iPod software update server despite working network, fails on multiple networks - no error message, just loads forever.

    Hey everyone,
I have iTunes 10.4 and an iPod touch. I have always had trouble with synching my iPod.
Right now, iTunes will not connect to the iTunes store. When I try to synch my iPod touch, it gets stuck in "Step 2: Backing Up," and the bar loads forever. I've left it alone for several hours and it has not made any progress. When I try to restore the iPod, or update it, iTunes gives me an error message that it "Cannot connect to the iPod software update server. This has happened despite being connected to the internet, on both my school network and my home network.
I've tried messing with the hosts file in the System32/etc. folder as the website instructed on the apple website, but that did not solve the problem.
Recently, several parts of audiobooks I have have also become unplayable on my iPod, despite being able to be played on iTunes. The parts are listed but are grey and cannot be selected.
I recently copied a bunch of audiobooks via flash drive from my sister's computer to my iTunes - could this be part of the problem? They were from an Audible account that I don't share.
    Thanks!
    -Allison

Your iTunes stores and sync problem solution here:
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, Sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Trying to update keep getting a message "the ipod software update server could not be contacted Network connection could not be established" using mac OSX. done this with 2 ipod touches??

trying to update 2 ipods but when I go through the process it says "The ipod software update server could not be contacted" "Network connection could not be established". One of the ipods is locked and I don't remember password.

Here's what you can do in case of the forgotten password:
Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to rest the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
