Ipod song artist sync problem

In Itunes, I have all my songs, labeled by Artist, when I click the browse, eye, icon, I can browse those artists.
When I sync my ipod and navigate to artists, it often shows a fraction of the songs that are actually by the artist. Yet I can get to the songs not shown under that artist, under songs, and while playing shows who the artist is.
For example, lets say I have 8 Ac/Dc tracks. I go to Itunes>browse>Ac/Dc. There are 8 tracks, I cmd+a them all edit there info to all have "Ac/Dc" as their artist. I sync my ipod. navigate to Music>Artist>Ac/Dc and only 3 songs appear.
Now lets say one of the songs missing was "TNT" I then go to Music>Songs>TNT,
it plays showing its artist as "Ac/Dc"
Then I go to search and search "Ac/Dc" i click on the artist and there is only a few tracks. (not all 8)
Any Help? Its quite annoying. It might have to do with ID3 tags, not that I would know.
(btw, I have reinstalled Itunes, restored my ipod, restarted my computer to no avial. I am using the most current software for itunes and the ipod.)

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.
Providing the spelling for the artists is exactly the same of course.

You buy one and only one download.
As it should have been transferred to your computer when you synced, you can contact itunes support and ask for an exception.

  • Ipod classic 120GB sync problems

Whenever I try to sync my new iPod Classic 120GB with iTunes 8.1, it shows that it is transferring all the tracks, but when it is done, only a handful are transferred to the iPod. No error messages pop up, but when I sync it with an older version of iTunes, it seems to work just fine. The firmware on the iPod is already up-to-date and I've even done a restore, what can possibly be wrong which is causing the sync problems with iTune 8.1?

I have got the same problem, everything up-to-date. iTunes has about 80 gB of music, but synchronisation results in only 30 gB of music on my iPod. Apple's helpdesk first advised to reset the iPod: that meant another 24 hours of downloading, but the final result was even worse than the first time. Then they tried to convince me that my iTunes tracks perhaps were corrupt. But manually I can download every album. Finally they recommended to use manual synchronisation, that in fact means that the automatic sync option is no longer available! I cannot understand that Apple support is not aware of the problem and cannot properly fix it. Also after first contact by telephone there seems to be no possibility to complain by e-mail about the recommended "solution."

  • Solution to my "iPhone/iPod cannot be synced" problem

My MacBook Pro has been giving me the following error when syncing both my 80Gb video iPod and my iPhone for a while now:
The iPhone|iPod "..." cannot be synced. The disk
could not be read from or written to.
I worked around it on the iPod by not syncing any podcasts but I wasn't so lucky (if you can call it that) with the iPhone - I couldn't sync iPhoto at all.
After one visit to the Genius Bar on Fifth Avenue and a further 18 hours of trying different things, I fixed the problem. It seems to have been some kind of file corruption in the iPhoto library. This procedure worked for me:
    1. Move my iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
    2. Open iPhoto and let it recreate its folder and default files
    3. Copy my backed up picture folders to the folder iPhoto created
    4. Copy the backed up AlbumData.xml file to the folder iPhoto created
    5. Overwrite all files created by iPhoto in the new folder with my backed up ones
I don't know where the corruption was but the above sequence fixed my problem. The Genius Bar advice was to create a new user account on my Mac and then copy or move all my data files to the new account. That was painful, time-consuming and ultimately it didn't work. I don't think this is good advice to be giving anyone but hardcore computer users.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

The sync issue I found with photos (and it was strictly hit or miss as the error message details nothing) is that I had to break them up into smaller folders of roughly 200 photos or less. A large folder will cause any number of sync errors.
The list of elaborate workarounds for basic functionality in every application is beginning to get on my nerves. The only thing I haven't been told so far is to jump up and down while singing Yankee Doodle Dandy if I want this thing to do what it's supposed to.

  • Brand new iPod touch having syncing problems

I bought a brand new iPod touch 4th generation to replace my 3rd generation one. When I first plugged it in, almost everything synced over. After I noticed my notes, calender, photos, and previously saved wallpaper photos didn't transfer over, I synced my iPod again. The second time, the notes transfered over but not the rest of the stuff. I tried to manually sync photos. Now, my iPod won't sync at all with the message "Cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found." popping up. If I go into wall papers or simply photos, the main library is just a black screen with a scroll bar. It also says the iPod is up to date. Please help.
I'm scared to completely restore because I don't want everything to wipe from my computer.

If you are connecting to a hub discontinue doing so and try connecting directly to your computer and see what happens.

  • IPod Video Connection & Sync Problem on Abit IS7 Windoze Pentium 4

    Hello,
I'm posting this to help anyone else out with the same problems. I'm using a Pentium 4 2.8ghz Processor on a Abit IS7 Motherboard running Windoze XP Home and 1 Gig DDR400.
The Motherboard is equipped with USB 2.0's and 1394 Firewire ports. I got a 30 Gig Video ipod the other day and was having a nightmare connecting it and syncing with iTunes.
It was hanging painfully slow and would sometimes eject the ipod, and lock up iTunes. I tried the 5 R's on the ipod, even reformatting the ipod. Still the same deal. For Kicks I plugged the ipod into my old G3 300mhz Blue & White Powermac. And it sync'd with itunes, and mounted fast. Even with the old USB 1.1's. That's when I knew exactly where my problem was.
Today I went to Stooples and Bought a Belkin F5U219v1 3 port USB 2.0 Card. My problems were instantly solved for the cost of a decent meal..
    Specs of Pentium 4
    P4 2.8Ghz 800mhz FSB
    Abit IS7 Motherboard
    1 Gig DDR400
    Radeon 256meg PCI Video
    Seagate SATA 400Gig HD

    G3 300mhz Rev1 Motherboard
    768Meg Ram
    20 Gig IDE Hard Drive
    16 Meg Rage128 Video
    OS 10.3.9
This drove me deeper into the insanity that already consumes my life.. I hope this will help out someone else before they too go completely nuts.

Yes all my other USB equipment works on the motherboards USB Ports. Laser Printer, Mouse, Razr Sync Cable, and a couple others too.
I was lost... When I figured out that it was the PC not my iPod I was beyond PO'd at myself for not seeing it earlier.
Here's a tip that card runs for 30 dollars, at staples Take 3 old ink carts with you, and you can knock 9 dollars off the price! It's a real screaming deal when you do that! If you see a Hp or Lexmark printer in the garbage nab the carts! Just watch your hands and clothes.
Glad to help someone else, and those two boards are REALLY Similar, they have the same disease crappy Intel Chipset syndrome. Last intel machine for me, when I upgrade I'll most likely go for a AMD, or maybe a new PowerMac If that's in the budget. At least the mac will hold its value for more than 10 minutes.

  • Solution to iPod Touch Podcast Sync Problem

Like many of you, I had problems syncing my podcasts to my iPod Touch. I have the newest model with 2.1.1, and I had the same problem where (in iTunes) I would drag and drop the podcasts onto my iTouch and nothing would happen. They would not be listed as a Genre, in the Podcast section, or anywhere - but my memory would be sucked up in a proverbial iTouch black hole!
*The intermediate solution:* Create a smart playlist on your iTouch called "Podcasts" where "Podcast is true." That's the only rule you need and in that new podcasts you will see all of your invisible podcasts you copied
*Why this happens:* The podcast section on the iTouch only will show UNPLAYED podcasts, once they are played, they "vanish" but really they are just invisible (unless you have that smart playlist). This is obviously a glitch to be fixed in either the next iTouch update or iTunes update. In order to delete unwanted Podcasts, you must go into the smart play list and delete them from there.
    I HOPE THIS HELPS!

I discovered that if you uncheck edit the Smart Playlist and uncheck the Live Update box, you get the option to delete podcasts. The bad news is that I could still not get the wanted podcast to load again into the regular podcast lists (and I made sure to mark it as new before I tried.)
This is a serious on-going issue for me, as podcasts seem to randomly become invisible. I downloaded three hours of a radio broadcast from this morning, each of which was a separate podcast. Hours 1 and 3 showed up just fine, but hour 2 only showed up in the smart list. I hadn't listened to any of them yet, as they were all brand new today.
What's seriously annoying is that this has clearly been an issue for some time on the Touch. My old 60 gig never had a problem with podcasts. It's enought to make me nostalgic.

  • Does anyone make a display for iPod song/artist/album info?

My old man turned 90 recently. I gave him an iPod and he absolutely loves it! But his wife (my mother) is always asking him who's singing and he's forced to get up from the table each time to look -- with the help of a magnifying glass! -- into the iPod screen. I recall there being a device one could attach that has a big/bigger display that one can see from a longer distance. As I recall it was meant for iTunes and was somehow connected to the iTunes in the computer. Is there anything like this for iPod? What are these gadgets called, anyway?

    Well
I don't know anything like that but you can get a device that connects it to the TV and shows all the artists, who is playing, it comes with a remote control so you can use that to choose the song etc and it would be easy for him to see.

  • ICal to iPod Classic 80gig sync problem

    Hi,
just bought myself an iPod and wanted to sync my iCal (wich I just created for the first time) with my iPod. The problem is, that when I go to iTunes and check the box that says "Sync iCal calendars" it gives a message that says there aren't any calendars available, because I don't have any in my iCal. That's weird, cause I do have one...
I work on Leopard, have iTunes 7.5, the newest iPod software and iCal 3.0
Anybody know how to sync my Apple and my iPod?

well, I fixed it by removing EVERYTHING on my mac that had anything to do with iCal, so I made a backup of my new calendar, then deleted every old entry I ever had made (turned out I had made one like a year ago).
I don't know if this next step was necessary, but I removed and re-installed iCal. Next thing I did was import my Calender backup and I could sync the calendars with my iPod just fine now.
Hope if someone has this problem, it will help!

  • Unusual? iPod Classic connection/sync problem

I have an 80Gb iPod Classic, and iTunes 8.1 running on Windows XP.
With iTunes open, I connect the iPod.
    The iPod screen says connecting...synchronising...
Then the iPod appears in the iTunes device list, and the iPod says ejecting...ok to disconnect.
I am left with iTunes open, and thinking it is connected to the iPod, and an iPod which is disconnected from it's iTunes Library.
If I try the sync button on iTunes it say synchronising for a little while, but doesn't update any files.
The upshot is that I can no longer add or remove anything from the iPod. Although all the original data is still there, and the iPod plays fine.
I have tried rebooting the PC, restarting the iPod, re-installing iTunes, and restoring the iPod factory settings, but I still have the same problem.
    Please help!

if you get a solution to this problem, I have identical troubles on my hp running vista and outlook 07 on both my classic 80 gig and nano 16gig

  • Ipod classic 80gig sync problem

when i download podcast into i tunes i set the release date to oldest to newest. When i sync the i pod and transfer podcasts to i pod they remain in same order. But after i eject the i pod and open into podcasts they are always the opposite way around ie newest to the top and oldest to the bottom.
    Help please

i have the oposite of your problem. My iPOD shows the newest on the top and oldest on bottom. So in example if this was a book I would be reading the last chapter first, go figure. I tried everything I know how but remains like that. I learned to like it that way.if the newest podcast is interesting then I follow the story with the previous one. oh, by the way on the itunes shows in the correct order. I guess is a software thing.

  • Ipod classic 160 sync problem

So a couple of days ago my iPod classic was operating erratically and I read a few posts and decided to do a restore. After a long time trying I managed to get it to do a full reformat. I haven't been able to get it to sync since. I have tried what seems every  suggestion on here. I can see it in device manager no problem, it says that its connected on the iPod itself, It does show up in iTunes if I remove and plug it back in but only for a split second (it looks like a small window appears below the icon) and then it disappears again. If I perform a DFU restore it goes through restoring the device through iTunes again (so it is possible it can be recognized) but when it gets to the point where it tells me it will sync upon reboot - the icon for the iPod flashes up in iTunes, and then disappears again as above. I have also tried to do the HDsmart data and this works, details as below:
    Retracts:18
    Reallocs:0
    Pending sectors:0
    Poweron hours : 167
    Start/stops: 69680
    Temp current : 31°C
    Temp min: 53°C
    temp max: 248°C
I know the max is high but I think its a bum reading. It was operating mostly fine before apart from having to reboot using the Menu/select button every week or so...
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi turingtest2,
Thank you for the info, with formatting my iPod I managed to connect it to iTunes again.
However..in the page you linked to there is a section about how transferring large amounts of data can dump your library. That seems to be the problem in this case. It won't even allow me to transfer more than 2 gigabytes of music per sync, if I go higher it will dump everything again. Having over >60 GB of music in my library, this is disastrous to say the least.
Do you think that there is any other solution besides the method you mentioned involving Smart Playlists?

  • IPod Mail Accounts Syncing Problem

    Hi,
I keep getting the following error message when I try to sync my iPod Touch.
"iTunes could not sync mail accounts to the iPod "Name" because an error occurred remapping record identifiers.
Try syncing your iPod again. If the problem persists, replace the mail accounts on the iPod from the Info tab in the iPod preferences."
Anyone got any ideas? It's only just started a couple of days ago.
    Thanks,
    Mel

    Greetings, again, Mel -
Another forum response seems to have fixed the problem for me. From Christopher Archer comes this:
"...a much simpler "solution" to this problem. It worked for me as well as a few others. Before you sync...go to the info tab. Down at the bottom is says that during the next sync it will basically overwrite the information on the iPhone. I selected mail...since that was the error to begin with...and synced. Did fine...ran a normal sync to be safe and I'm back up and jogging."
    ...Me, too.

  • IPod 4g photo sync problem

I have some problems syncing my abt. 4000 photos to the iPod 4g 32GB.
Its not a problem of space or iPod Photo chache eather ... its another problem...
I deleded the iPod Photo Cache quite often allready and I tryed out some other "ways" but still it's not proper syncing the Photos and than the message "[n] items could not be synced. See iTunes for more Information" pops up on the iPod ... iTunes just "finishes" the work without any errormessage ... but the data is still missing on the iPod.... o.O now i really dunno what i should do ... i searched all day already in google, I restored the iPod ....synced it dam often ...... HEEEEEEEEELP me please .....
    ps: I'm using Windoof 7 64bit

*Hi, I had exactly the same problems....which are more or less solved. I don't know why but moving your images to another drive (alternate built in or removeable) and then linking to them to sync seems to work for some reason. I found this advice on another forum and there you go! It seems like we're not the only ones*

  • Ipod 160 GB sync problems

    Hello Every one ,
I have a Ipod 160gb , i just switched the library for my music , and now it seems like my Ipod has gone mental . Most of my songs were skillfully aquired , but they played well before on my ipod and mac .
This is what i have tried till now ,
i tried to restore it , but everytime i seem to do so , there is an error , if i am not wrong 1402 ... soo i put it in DISK mode and try my luck , failed there too
and now i have this ipod with no songs, but takes the usual time syncing and when it is around 5-6 k songs .. it gives me the error  " The ( song name) cannot be copyied on to the ipod because it cannot be read or wriiten on "  this is irriating me .
the only other option i had thought of was downloading a firmware file for it and restoring it , but i cant seem to find it .
for the more intelligent peeps , here are a few things that might help you
    Model : MB150zp
    version 1.1.2 Mac .
PS its an old old ipod classic, atleast around 6-7 years .

Perhaps it would be worth it to run a health check on your iPod's HD. See this older post from another forum member turingtest2 on how to perform this test and what the resulting numbers indicate.
