IPod song browsing problem

Hi, I'm having trouble finding some songs on my iPod. For example I have Song A and Song B, both by Artist X. Song A is tagged as belonging to Album A while Song B does not have any Album tags. When I go to Music--->Artists--->Artist X, the iPod skips automatically to Album A and does not allow me to see Song B. However, when I browse through "Songs", Song B is in my iPod anyway.
If I remember clearly, in my old iPod, the behavior was after picking an artist, it would show "All" and the Album names. However, now it just seems to jump straight to the songs with Album names, disregarding the ones where the album name is blank.
Take note, that this only happens when there the songs by one artist either have no Album tag or belong to one other distinct album.
What seems to be the problem?
Hope I made sense here. Btw, it's a 30GB iPod video
I've tried resetting the iPod and doing a restore, but it still is that way. Is this how all new iPods behave now? (My old iPod was an iPod photo)
Thanks

This is the same with all 5g iPods. You will have to
add something into the album column. Single, stand
alone track or just some _
Oh thanks. Is it really supposed to be like this or is this a bug? Frankly, I prefer the old way better.

  • ITunes/iPod song order problem

i have an original 512 shuffle that i load with podcasts and a few songs to listen to while i commute. i drag the podcasts from the library to the ipod in itunes and them arrange them in the order that i want them played. when i disconnect the ipod and turn it on (not in shuffle mode) the files are not in the order that i had them arranged. when i plug the ipod back into my mac the order is not how i arranged it. this only started recently. ideas?

Why assume that Podcasts are not music? Or that files in a user's Library are music? I subscribe to music podcasts and my Library has many audio books and spoken word recordings. Shouldn't my iPod let me arrange these tracks in the order of my choice, rather than assuming (incorrectly most of the time) that I would want the podcasts on top? I don't think I would have any difficult finding and playing podcasts if Apple left my song order untouched. (Needless to say, like the originator of this thread, I am not using it in "shuffle" mode.)
Okay, as long as you define 'bad' as 'not the way I
want it to be'. You might want to consider how, given
the design of the Shuffle, you'd ever be able to find
and listen to just Podcasts (and not music) if they
were NOT placed at the top of the list in that play
    mode.
If you want your iPS to treat your podcasts just like
any other garden-variety music track then you'll
probably have to jump through some or all of the
miscellaneous hoops that people have discovered and
discussed in these and other forums. The subject has
been covered ad nauseum; you'll have a lot to choose
    from.
Or, you can simply get some other MP3 player which
will do what you want. I'm not claiming that there is
one, but there certainly could be.

  • ITunes & iPod song synchronisation problem.

    Dear Experts,
I want iTunes to scan through it's song database and remove from its Library the songs that no longer exist on my iPod.
The reason for this is that once I've copied tracks to the iPod, I delete them from the Mac's hard disk. So now, my iTunes library has lots of tracks listed which are NOT present on the iPod.
i.e. is there a script which can synchronise the contents of playlists (which contain tracks on my iPod) with the main iTunes library,so that the Library lists ONLY the songs present on the iPod and playlists?
Any idea on how to do this? Suggestions gratefully received. (I have searched the forum without any succcess and I've checked the iTunes script site.)
    Thanks.

  • IPod song switching problem

When I use my iPod within iPhone 3G and listen in the shuffle mode, if I have the iPod in my pocket as I walk, the songs switch by themselves after 30-60 seconds. I assume that this has to do with the unit somehow being jiggled while I walk, but I don't understand why this should happen. I tried tried various headphones and this happens with them all. This does not happen when the unit is in my car or in other situations when the unit is not moving. How do I fix this?

  • ITunes 7.2 Problem: Song Order Problem

    Equipment Specs:
    IPOD -- First Generation, 1 G size, Firmware ver # 1.1.5
    ITunes -- Ver # 7.2.0.34
    Problem
I recently updated to the above version of ITunes. I also recently reset/erased all my songs (no podcasts or nothing else)from my IPOD.
I then reloaded just songs to my pod using the drag and drop method from the music file. I then re-arranged the songs in my desired order.
I then disonnected the pod and exited ITunes.
When I later restarted ITunes with the pod connected, my song order had changed. With the pod still open in ITunes, I am no longer able to change the play order position. As say, move song #45 to position #2 and etc.
Has something changed as I was always able to do this prior to updating ITunes and the pod ?
Was this caused by updating ITunes to the newest version?
Is there a solution to be able to manage the order of your songs as before ?
Can I use a 6.0 version of Itunes inorder to regain this song order problem. I was always able to use this function in a previous version.
Wished I never would have updated to 7.2 from whatever I had. I really should have know better.
    Thx
    Arc

Solved my problem by reloading ITunes Version 7.1.1.5. Now I can accomplish what I want to do.

  • My iPod songs are automatically wiped out again!! GRRR..

My iPod songs are gone. How can I have have them back without having to upload songs again?
This is the second time it happened. My iPod still had 60.9 MB space in it before my songs disappeared.
When I plugged my iPod into the PC today, it was charging. Then a few minutes later, the iPod (still plugged into the PC) started beeping. At first I don't know where the beep was coming from. When I finally realized it came from my iPod, it was too late to check what message it says on the screen. And when I open the iTunes, it prompts me to fill up the iPod Set-Up Assistant (which means that I have to start all over again transferring songs to my iPod? No way.). I can't find the songs in my iPod anymore. All of them have been wiped out now.
The weird thing is, even with all the songs wiped out, iTunes still says that I only have 60.9 MB of memory in my iPod. It seems that the songs are still there but won't just show up. Because they still occupy the memory of my iPod. My Notes are still in the device, I can also access the files stored in the External Memory.
The first time it happened, I did a Restore and had to download the songs from the Internet again. Now that I don't have the music files in my PC anymore, I don't want to do a Restore because I don't want to download songs again.
    Please help me fix this.

1.If you are using some kind of file sharing program to put songs on your ipod, this might be the problem.I had a similar situation. If you delete some songs from your file-sharing program itunes wont be able to find the songs and wont play song(just on itunes),ir that the host of the song might've deleted the song himself from other to share.
2.Make sure your itunes is up-to date,or you ipod is having hardware issues(this might be the cause if you dont use a file-sharing program). You need to put you ipod on disk mode. For more info. go on support.
3.This step can maybe work, but i know it wont.just blow the usb cord just to make sure it is not dusty.
4.This might also be why your songs get wiped out.You probably need a new usb cord, but first try every way you can to fix this issue before buying a new usb cord.also depends how old your usb cord is.

  • How do I stop iTunes erasing my iPod songs?

I'm new to iPod, so I wasn't aware clearing iTunes library (in an effort to save disc space) of songs would also cause the iPod to update and erase it's contents of songs. Bang went 4 hours of recording. How do i stop this happening again? I set the preferences to only update the play lists but either I reset it and forgot or it went back to default update and erased the contents of the iPod. Would checking a manual update only solve this unfortunate problem? thanks.

Thanks for that Logan, but I have another question.
How do I access my iPod preferences in iTunes WITHOUT the iPod attached? As you know, you need to attach the iPod to have the iPod preference tab appear, which auto starts the erasing of iPod songs (Which I don't want)
Would sliding the "HOLD" switch on the top of the iPod mini stop any changes or update happening, giving you an opportunity to access the iTunes/iPod preferences and change them?
I don't want to find out by having another 4 GBs of songs erased! (I think I'll back them up to DVD)

  • Sync songs details problems

    Hello,
I have recently bought an iPod touch 4, who replaced my iPod .
After updating everyhing needed, I started syncing all of my songs to the new iPod.
The problem is the many details about my media is showing incorrectly. For example, some songs will show when looking in the Songs list, but will not show when clicking on their Artist name through artist list.
Another problem is that when changing names of artits, songs, etc, and then syncing, it does not update it on my iPod.
It's important for me to say that I never had this problems with the old iPod (pressing Sync would immediately update all the changes I have made).
    Thanks in advance!

I have found the solution. In the settings, under "Music", there is an option that organize artists by their album. I don't know what exactly is the purpose of it, but I turned it off, and the display went back to the way I knew it on iPod 3.

  • Ipod songs ratings are not showing in Itunes (manually managed)

    Hello,
Ipod songs ratings are not showing in Itunes, however I can see the ratings in my iPod Touch 4 (that is manually managed). I have an iPod 3 an it works. Why?
I don't want to sync anything, I'm looking the songs that are in the iPod through iTunes and the rating information is missing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks & Regards
    SU

    Hi SU
    Hope this helps.
When I connect my iPod touch to iTunes on my PC - under library there is a Music folder and under iPod there is a Music folder. Which music folder isn't showing the track rating?
If the Library Music folder isn't showing ratings then see A) Updating Ratings in Library Music
If the iPod Music folder isn't showing ratings then see B) Seeing Ratings in iPod Music
I have 20000 tracks in iTunes and 5000 tracks on my iPod which I am rating as a listen to them. 1000 have ratings 4000 have none.
    A) Updating Ratings in Library Music
This is on a PC. When you manually manage music on your iPod the ratings you assign on your iPod aren't automatically synced to iTunes but it is easy to do it manually and only takes a few minutes.
    1) in iTunes on a PC click Music under iPOD, sort your tracks by the Rating column and select 5 star tracks.
    2) Click File > New Playlist From Selection and call it 5 STAR. This creates a new playlist on your iPod.
    3) Right click the 5 STAR playlist and click Export. I save the playlist export file to my Desktop.
    4) Click File > Library > Import Playlist > navigate to the location you exported the playlist to (in my case Desktop), select 5 STAR and import. You may get a warning saying some tracks don't exist, you get this if you change track info in your iTunes library, it'll omit these tracks from the playlist your creating. 5 STAR playlist will appear under iTunes Playlists.
    5) Select 5 STAR under iTunes Playlists and you will see your 5 star tracks from your iPod but the Rating will be blank. Select all tracks, right click, select Rating and then *****. All the tracks will now be rated 5 star.
    6) Right click iTunes Playlist 5 STAR and select Delete, this won't delete your tracks.
    7) Right click iPOD Playlist 5 STAR and select Delete, this won't delete your tracks.
    8) You can repeat this process with your 4 star stracks then 3 star, etc.
    9) an optional step. Once I've rated my tracks I delete them from my iPod.
I do this process every few weeks when I've got a reasonable batch of tracks to update ratings in iTunes.
    B) Seeing Ratings in iPod Music
In iTunes iPod Music my tracks are sorted by rating and I mistakenly thought the rating column is blank. I clicked on the Name column to resort and saw some of the tracks had ratings. I then noticed that when I clicked on iPod music it didn't display tracks from the top of the list (my 5 star tracks) which I expected but half way down (0 star tracks) which is why I thought there was a problem. So now when I look at my iPod music in iTunes I scroll up the list to check they are showing ratings before doing A) above.
    Regards

  • Ipod songs not recognized

I plugged my ipod into a friends itunes to get a cd she had and after i ejected and turned my ipod back on, my ipod library had all of her music and none of mine. None of her music played (i put on shuffle songs and the song names just flashed by because none were valid) and the only tracks to work on my ipod were the ones from the CD i had meant to download to my ipod. Her itunes was not on automatic update (she had manually manage music selected). I reset my ipod and later plugged my ipod into my own computer where my ipod still showed up as my friends ipod with all of her library, except once again none of the songs worked (all had the little exclamation points next to them). I opened my Ipod control folder while it was plugged into my itunes and saw that my original library was in the folder I was able to play some of the songs from the ipod control folder. How do I correct this problem (without restoring the ipod and erasing whatever music i have on the ipod)? Also only about 25% of the 4000+ ipod songs are stored on my harddrive itunes folder which is working fine.

It would appear that the iPod hard drive or iPod software has become corrupt. This doesn't mean that the songs are not on your iPod, hence the fact that the iPod reports used space and iTunes may show them. I've never seen a plausible explanation for why it does this.
You should restore the iPod and then reload the songs from iTunes.

  • U2 Ipod 4th gen problems.

Ok...so today I took my ipod out of the box it has been sitting in for the last 6 months. It was in the box because the "hard drive" broke and would cost me $200+ to fix...which I really didnt care enough for. When I took the ipod out I plugged it in to my computer, updated it, and restored and charged it. I just put my music back on to the ipod and it came time for the moment of truth, does it work?
    Good news...it plays my songs.
Bad news...ALL of the buttons (play, menu, skip, ect.) all act as the center main button.
How do I fix this problem? It couldnt have been from anything other then software, because this wasnt a problem before and it hasnt moved since then.
Please help me, I wish to use my ipod once again!

Ok I just discovered another thing.
If i hold down the center button then the regular controls will work...but only if i hold the center button down.
    how do i fix this?
    Thanks.

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO TRANSFER MY IPOD SONGS TO MY ITUNES??

My computer was cleaned out by a computer dr because of a caught virus. All my programs including itunes were erased so i had to redownload itunes. Now all the songs from my original itunes are still on my ipod but not in my new itunes.
My new itunes only has a few of my previous purchases(not even all of them)and my new purchases.
When i plug in my ipod i get a pop up to either erase my ipod and transfer my itunes into the ipod, but all my songs are on my ipod.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO TRANSFER MY IPOD SONGS TO MY ITUNES??
ps.when i plug my ipod into my computer it does not show up as plugged into itunes and the ipod then freezes with the DO NOT DISCONNECT and i am forced to let the battery die bc this is the only way for it to turn off.
ps again. i received a new ipod nano a few days ago and will be using that instead of my 5th generation one, but the 5th gen. one still holds all my songs!!HELP PLEASE!!i know my problem is big

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased tracks has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.
