Ipod songs missing, Itunes unresponsive

A few days ago I went to add more songs to my Ipod, and Itunes would continually get an error message when loading and shut down. SO I switched over to 3rd party software, Anapod explorer, and it seemed to work pretty peachy. Anyways, my computer froze (its prone to doing this) and when I turned on my ipod I found a TON of songs were missing, even though Anapod and my computer would read the drive as being almost full (544 megs free). They should still BE there, shouldn't they? It also deleted all my playlists and the smart playlists like most played, etc. Meanwhile, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes and I still get the same error message. Does anybody have any advice on how to recover my songs or get Itunes working properly again?

Well thanks for all the help

  • See "iPod" Songs in iTunes but can't save them in Library or Music Folder!

My apologies in advance, folks, I'm a newbie to the Discussions.
Initially had loaded my iTunes onto a PC and "homeshared" to my Mac. PC died and could not disable homesharing on THAT end. But did disable homesharing on my Mac. Synced by iPod (appears to be a PC model) and all songs showed up under device in iTunes. But, all songs were downloaded from CDs (not iTunes store). So: tried to select all and save to a new folder under music. No dice. Tried "Add to Library" from iTunes File Menu...nada. Since the songs were originally loaded to the iPod from a Windows PC, do I need a utility in order to get them uploaded to my Mac? Really don't want to have to re-record them all (>1000 songs) and know I must be missing something obvious here.
Please tell me I'm just overlooking a VERY easy step!! I now have 1 (yes, one) song in my Library.
Your help is really greatly appreciated!

    Hi folks:
Just in case anyone else experieces this problem (uploading iPod Windows to iTunes Mac, I used iPodDisk freeware (with MacFuse)...loads songs to Finder as organized in iPod and you can drag and drop into iTunes!! Easiest way to get the job done...

  • Can't play ipod song in itunes

I can see, but not play, any of the CD-originated songs that are in my ipod from the itunes client.
I got a new laptop for Christmas (Toshiba with newest ITunes client 7.5)
I have a one year old ipod nano with songs in two categories:
    1. purchased off of itunes.
    2. ripped out of CDs.
I authorized the new computer to play itunes purchases, but I can't play the songs that are in my ipod that originated on a CD.

*I am unable to copy/move these songs into the music library of itunes (i.e. given a song is in the ipod (originally ripped off a CD source), I cannot get that song into the music library of itunes.*
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Can't play iPod songs in iTunes 7, just Hard Drive Songs

    Hi
I just downloaded the new iTunes 7 but I don't know how to play the songs from the iPod in the iTunes, I mean, the ones that I don't have in my Hard Drive, so far I just can play the songs on the library but not the ones in the iPod.
If I use the iPod alone I don't have problems, but I don't know how to play the iPod through iTunes in this brand new version.
    Thanks in advance.
iPod 60GB Color (No Video)   Windows XP

I have the exact same problem!! Two hours ago I had 1,022 songs on my iPod. I installed itunes 7 and then the new ipod software, and it seemed like I still had all of my songs. Then, I went through all of the types of media- videos, music, etc., and told it to sync everything BUT my music; these were in fact the settings that were already in place. Then I asked it to update these changes. The next time I looked over, I had 12 songs. Now, my hard-drive library of Music is still there, so I can put those songs back on my ipod, but the songs I took from my dad's itunes library the last time I was home- like 500 of them- are gone. I put my ipod into disk mode, and there was nothing listed except for some folders of "contacts", etc., no music. What???!!!

  • Sorting between Ipod songs and Itunes songs

I cant figure this out; Is there a way to seperate between the songs on your ipod and the songs in your itunes? I have A LOT of songs in my iTunes and its impossible to look through whats on it and whats not. Any easier ways? Thanks!

    Harry,
You can have your iPod sync automatically either with your entire library or specific play-lists. If your library is too large to fit on an iPod, create a (smart)Playlist with the songs you want.
Or you can manually update your iPod, but the songs must be in your iTunes library for them to be on the iPod.
All of this can be configured under the "Music" tab in the iPod section of iTunes (Left hand column : Devices : iPod : Music "tab" )

  • Ipod song missing on itunes

I want to sync my ipod touch with a different itunes library. I plugged my ipod in the computer and my itunes started transferring my purchased items off of my ipod. I looked at my music and one song that I recently bought and downloaded on my ipod touch was missing. I tried syncing it again and nothing. I have tried to restart my computer and my ipod and nothing. I can't seem to get it to work. Any help?

iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer. For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. • Ipod songs missing in artist folder

I have a 30gb Video Ipod with the newest software.
After updating my ipod, some songs are there in the genre and album menus, but are missing in the artist menu. The songs do have an artist and when i play the song, the artist does show up in the middle line.
    Thankyou

I had the same problem! This is how I fixed it, though it was not ideal for me:
This was the scenario: Under a particular artist, Bebo Norman, I had one whole CD ("Try") with all of the track info filled out, and several other songs (live tracks, acoustic tracks, etc.) with nothing listed for their Album Name. They all showed up on iTunes, but on my iPod, when I went to Music>Aritists>Bebo Norman, it only allowed me to select the songs from Try, and none of the other tracks. This also occurred for a few other artists that were in the same situation.
This is how I fixed it: For Bebo Norman, it was easy - I imported another whole CD, complete will all of the track info. After I did this and synched with my iPod, all of the songs (both CDs as well as the extra "album-less" tracks showed up under Music>Artists>Bebo Norman.
However, for some of the other artists, this was not possible, as I only owned one CD by them. So, I selected all of the album-less tracks, and for their Album Name, I typed a space. Now, on iTunes, as well as on the iPod, all of the tracks show up, and the album-less tracks still do not "appear" to have an album name listed along with them.
I know this is not the ideal answer to your question, but it's how i went about handling it. I hope it helps!

  • Getting ipod songs to itunes library please help

ok i did a system revovery on my computer and i was woundering how i get my songs from my ipod to my library
gateway   Windows XP   ipod 30gb vid

I see you use windows xp. you could go out and pay 30 something bucks to get your songs back...or you could do it yourself. first allow hidden files to be seen then go to YouriPodHere>ipod_control>music. take that whole music folder and copy and paste it to your computers hard drive. go to itunes then go to file>add folder> then add that folder wherever you saved it. or you could always bother with paying for things that are done manually at a faster rate for free
    hope this helps,

  • Can't See Ipod Songs in Itunes??

I have just upgraded to a new ipod nano 8mgb and I'm using itunes 9.
I want to add songs to my ipod manually rather than using sync. I have managed to do this but I cant see the songs I've transferred in itunes like I have in the past. I can see them on my ipod. What am I doin wrong guys?

    Hello Hibbster,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you talking about viewing your iPod's content within iTunes?
If so, click on the small black triangle next to your iPod's name in the left hand pane of iTunes. This should open up a small list underneath with Music, Videos, and such. Go ahead and click on the Music one to view the content currently on your iPod.
Does that do the trick for you?

  • How put ipod songs on iTunes on MacBook

I have songs on ipod that it cannot add to itunes.  Does anyone know how to do this?  Thanks

If you are trying to transfer song files from your iPod to your computer, you cannot do that using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  iTunes syncing is generally one way, from the iTunes library to the iPod.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your current iTunes library

  • TS1424 End of song missing - itunes download

    Hi,
I recently downloaded "Out of the Black" by "Royal Blood" from itunes and the last 26 seconds of the song is missing, when I listen to the song it just cuts out before the end of the song. Do you know what could be going wrong here? Can I try downloading the song again without having to pay again?
    Thanks
    Oliver

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • New iPod/songs missing

I recently got a new iPod, new hard drive for my iMac, and a new version of iTunes.  When I reinstalled iTunes, all of my songs were gone.  So my question is, they still show up in my purchases in the iTunes store, so how do I get them back to my library?

Go into your Purchase History, located in the top right of iTunes store. It's found in your account about 2/3rds of the way down. You can view what you've purchased and find it all that way.
Unfortunately, i believe that you will have to re download everything manualy from the artists page. Depending on the length of time from when you downloaded the songs, you may have to pay a reduced fee. My advice is to keep backups on an external hard drive. They really are priceless in moments like these.
    All the best

  • How to tranfer ipod songs to itunes software ?

A virus attacked my computer and killed my itunes libary . Upon re install only 600 of 1100 songs were retreived. All of those songs are on my ipod however it won't sync ( ipod to itunes ) vs the otherway around .
How to sync so i can get the original 11oo songs back on my libary ?

You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, you can add them to your new iTunes library.  If some of those songs are already in your library, you may want to do it selectively, or you'll have to deal with duplicates.

  • How to add ipod songs on itunes

if i have an ipod with all its songs from anther computer and i wanted to add that ipod to a new itunes on a new computer how would i do so?
i don't have the old computer and my internet is not working on that laptop. help?
    -Torr.

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
