First determine that the files sound normal on your computer. If so, swap headphones. Sounds like it could be a short in the headphones is causing phase cancellation (the filtered sound) though I think rather than echo (repeats, as in "Hellooo.....helloo.......hellloooo" : ) you're hearing something else, perhaps a skewered ambience from the left and right channels being buggered by the short in the phones.

  • Sounds Like Crap

I've been beginning to wonder what GB's real purpose is... I've recently purchased a Snowball Microphone $105.00 to go with GB because my band and I were simply utilizing the built-in microphone on my MacPro -- ugh, not good at all. It's much better now, but still not great quality. Sounds like the recording was out of a "garage". Obviously, I'm getting way too much interference (sound bouncing off of walls, windows, everything). What exactly am I supposed to do?? Having us individually record our parts seems like a royal pain and I only have one microphone and have been recording tracks on just one take (all together, not separately).
Also, I've been recording some simple acoustic stuff (guitars on two tracks and vocals on two tracks -- it sounds horrible, once I add in vocals, it completely screws up the overall sound -- what's the deal with that?? It's not clean, just annoying. If anything sounds good, it should be the vocals considering I have a $105 microphone plugged directly into my Mac.
Do I need to plug all instruments into the mac (at least logical ones, bass/electric/acoustic guitars? What exactly do I purchase for that, what kind of chord works with MacPro laptops?
I apologize as this is getting way too long for just a few questions, but I've become very frustrated with GB. I know there's a way to make my music sound professional and not a recording from a "garage" -- per say.
If anyone could answer all of my questions at your convenience, I would be very greatful.
    Thanks so much!

Certainly GB is not the culprit in your case!
    - Putting one mic in front of a band will always sound like crap. For a good vocal track, e.g., the singer has to be close to the mic, and that is true for picking up guitar apms too. In order to put each instrument and voice on their own channel, you either need a multi-channel interface and several mics (and good acoustic isolation so the tracks don't bleed into each other), or you'll have to record them one at a time. You could use the low quality one-mic recording as a "base" track, let everyone play their part over it, and erase the base track in the end. Don't expect a good drum sound with one mic.
For your horrible screw-up problem with the multi-track recording, you'll have to tell us more: Do the vocals on their own sound bad? Do you have clipping? If you have clean recordings on your tracks, GB doesn't have a problem to mix them.

remove them in Safe Mode with >>Driver Fusion<<
then reboot to normal mode and install MSI VGA drivers for your card:

during installation select custom install and checkmark "clean install"
Looked like stable. Played 3 WOT games in a row without any problems (before it would crash in the second game). In the 4th game it blued screen and said "Clock Watchdog Timeout"

  • My ipod sounds like it is going fast

My Ipod on audiobooks sounds like it is accelerating. The voice speaks rapidly.

Then change the playback speed to normal.

  • IPOD sounds like it's being played under water on a very old record player!

I've had no end of technology problems lately. I transfered all of my mp3s and IPOD info to my new external hard drive. Which I can no longer access. I downloaded iTunes to my C drive again and plugged in my IPOD. It was not recognized by Windows or iTunes. I was forced to unplug it while it still read "do not unplug" or whatever the warning message is. Two nights later (last night), I tried again and was able to get it registered to my laptop and new version of iTunes.
I was all excited and downloaded a bunch of Podcasts, thinking that all was well! But it's not I'm at work trying to listen and my new podcasts and pre-existing music are all garbled! It's not every second of every file, but it's a majority of it. The files sound "scratchy" and like you're hearing it from under water - kinda muffled and "bubbly?" I'm not sure if I'm making any sense, but it's freaking me out!
    how do I fix?

Thanks to a Best Buy GeekSquad member, I figured out that my IPOD was fine, but my headphones were toasted!!!

  • Ipod songs like crap

not all songs but most have distortion when the song volume goes up. i've swapped headphones and i've gotten the same result. the files sound great through the computer. what's wrong?

I first had this problem with certain albums on my 5th gen Video iPod. I finally found the answer is the gain level the music was originally recorded at. The distortion you are hearing is "clipping" and is made worse if you use the EQ. I downloaded a program called MP3Gain which allows you to decrease or increase the gain of songs or albums. Reducing the gain should eliminate the distortion, but you should be aware that it will decrease the volume of the songs you run the program against. MP3Gain will not reduce the quality of the tracks as it does not re-rip them, it simply inserts a tag to indicate that the gain should be lowered. If you do not like the results, all changes are easily reversible.

  • Why does my iTunes suddenly sound like crap?

Up until today iTunes has sounded fine but all of a sudden it turned to crap. I havent changed any settings in months and havent updated in years since it always causes problems and each update gets worse and worse. Its almost like the EQ is way off but I didnt even know iTunes had an EQ feature until today and when I try to change it, it doesnt fix the problem. Same goes when I try to change the EQ and other features in the control panel.
Does anybody know what the problem is and how I can fix it? I wish there was another program that would sync my phone, im so tired of this **** from apple.

  • T430 audio sounds like crap

the sound quality is junk its as if i am listening to a realy low quality audio file all the time this is through the headphone jack. i cant foind any settings to fix this in the drivers and if i use a 3rd party eq such as in vlc playe rit just gets worse
if i turn the master down to 10% and turn up 3rd party volume the signal distorts at 50% signal on the 3rd party hard core
i tried a search? help suggestions says i have the latest audio driver
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Then goto Control Panel/Sound/Playback/Properties/Enhancements tab and check "Disable All Effects", something like that. Maybe it will help. We also had problems with low audio output on our L430 so we, after much trouble with different Win7 Realtek drivers AND Dolby Advanced Audio "features", ended up deinstalling Dolby Advanced Audio altogether and since then our audio output has been acceptable. But before deinstalling Dolby Advanced Audio, check "Disable All Effects" in Windows Control Panel's Sound/Playback/Properties/Enhancements tab.

  • Is it just me or did the new itunes make your songs sound like crap too?

I just got home and put on some music in itunes. I was taken aback by the horrid sound quality that came out. It seemed like every time the guitar would palm mute, the speaker would bottom out. I have Event studio speakers so I don't think it's them. What gives?

I have not heard any difference on my set-up.
I stream music via an Airport Express to my Hi-Fi and it still sounds as good as it did before.

  • Voicemail sounds like crap?!

Why does my voicemail seem like there is a sick robot talking to me over a mega phone?
    sounds TERRIBLE!

while it's certainly a possibility that there is a manufacturing defect at play here which could be further investigated, i'm going to go out on a limb and say that it seems unlikely if other audio, ie: calls sound ok, and only voicemail has quality issues. especially since there seem to be at least a handful of us experiencing it. (it's like my calls are 256k encoded mp3s, but voicemails are only 64k or something)
my guess is still that it's an ATT backend operation, and it may be a decision on a regional basis, or is maybe even more random like the new version of whatever they use to encode VMs just does a crappier job.
Perhaps we should ask where the people experiencing this issue are located. I'm in central indiana.

  • Z-5550 Sound like crap in Vi

I have no idea what the problem is with these speakers. Its also very comforting having such great customer service from Creative, they basically say e-mail us or search the forums, awesome Creative! I just installed the X-FI Xtrememusic card into my PC and setup my speakers. When i run the static test on the Z-5550's sound comes out of all of them, but when i run it on my PC, the rear speakers and the subwoofer play through the center speaker. Also the overall soun dis just aweful, a chorus will come in loud as hell through the surround speakers, and the main singing/rapping only comes from the center speaker and is drowned out by the chorus. I cant pinpoint whats wrong with the sound but i know its terrible. Ive got Vista 32 and have tried getting the latest drivers but that doesnt help. Also the software that came with the soundcard doesnt work, i try to use the functions in the Creative volume panel and whenever i click something it says, "The console for the current mode of your audio device cannot be launched. The console may not be installed, or may not be installed properly. You may need to re-install the console." I tried re-installing the software twice now and no difference.

I just purchased the Logitech Z5500 for christmas. My current sound card is: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatalty Professional Series. And everything sounds Crystal clear and perfect to me. I have everything set up in analong right now waiting for my digital I/O to arri've..But even in analog is sounds great I do not have any of these issues you speak of.
Maybe try to re install all the drivers and see if that helps, and remember to set the option to 5. in the Console, and if you do not enable CMSS-3D, remember to move the slider to your listening pref... I Personally Use CMSS-3D Makes the Bass sound better, but thats my personal opinion.

  • Music sync to ipod using Itunes 7.3.1 sounds like skipping cd

    Hello,
I have an older 12" PowerBook G4. Since installing the latest Quicktime (7.2) and iTunes(7.3.1) any music that I sync with my iPod sounds like a skipping cd. The music on the iPod sound like a skipping cd for a short time and then just skips to the next song. The next song of course does the same thing. The music sounds fine when played back using iTunes. The music is encoded as a MP3 using VBR. All of the music I have previously encoded (before iTunes 7.3) and put on the iPod continues to play just fine (using the same MP3 and VBR settings). I have tried resetting my iPod, but that did not help. Only having USB 1.1 ports and am not too excited by ideas that involve syncing 40GB of music back onto my iPod.
Any ideas what has changed in the latest software version or what can be done? It would grand to carry some new music to work.

So, the music sounds like a skipping cd and then shortly just skips onto the next song. In Itunes I selected the skipping songs (which happen to play fine in Itunes) and used "Convert Selection to MP3" under the "Advanced" menu, deleted the skipping songs from my iPod and then added the freshly converted versions of the songs back to the iPod. This worked. No skipping and the songs played all of the way though. Why do I have to convert an mp3 created by iTunes to an mp3 using "Convert Selection to MP3" in order to make things work?
I do not think that is the problem.
I use a laptop with limited hard drive space. After iTunes rips my cd's into mp3's I copy the mp3 files to an external hard drive, deleted the songs from iTunes and re-add them from the external hard drive using the "Add to Library" option under "Files". I did this fora couple of cd's. Then I deleted the corresponding songs off of my iPod and re-added them. The songs on the iPod again sound like a skipping cd before just skipping on to the next song.
One more time, I used "Convert Selection to MP3" under the "Advanced" menu to convert the skipping songs. This time I just left them in the iTunes Music folder on the internal hard drive instead moving them to the external hard drive. After deleting and re-adding the songs to my iPod the songs played fine.
I do not use an "iTunes Music folder" on my external hard drive and like to organize my mp3's to my likings.
The question now is, why can't mp3's be moved from the "iTunes Music" folder on the internal disk to an external disk? I do not have enough room on my internal disk to carry around my music and still accomplish work.
I had been using the method described above for years without problems.
