Ipod Sport Kit Only W Nano?

Does/can the Sport Kit work with other iPod models other than the Nano (I just purchased a 60 GB iPod Video)?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It looks as though Apple has decided that this device is not suitable for use in conjunction with it's larger hard disk based players. I suspect they don't want to deal with the fall out of failed hard disks.
I also suspect (haven't seen any stats - but the Mini was the best seller before) that the Nano is a very high seller compared to the 5G so they're targeting a market.
Apple has only built the Nike+ technology in to the firmware updates for the Nano so on this occasion you lucked out. I suggest you load up a few videos to watch and make us all jealous!

    No.

Only those iPods contain the firmware needed to use it, likely because iPods with a hard drive such as the iPod classic are much more vulnerable to drops and other hard impacts than iPods which use flash media.

  • Nike+ iPod Sport Kit for my personal workout and running.

I bought a Nike+ and I already have a iPod 5th Gen. with video and 80GB(which I love). Is there a software available to make the two compatible or is the Nike+ still only able to work with the iPod Nano? What should I do ?

  • I have a 7th generation nano, and am interested in the Nike   Ipod sport kit.  However, it looks like the kit only works with older nanos with the 30 pin connector.  What kit or what accessory do I need to utilize the Nike   ipod sport kit fuctionality?

I have a 7th generation nano, and am interested in the Nike + Ipod sport kit.  However, it looks like the kit has a 30 pin connector on the receiver and the 7th gen nano is a lightning connector.  Not sure if the kit will work.  What kit or what accessories do I need to utilize the Nike + ipod sport kit fuctionality in the 7th gen nano?  Do I just need a separate sensor and/or a heart rate monitor? Or is there a kit available for 7th gen nanos?

    Hey SeanW89,
Thanks for the question. The iPod nano 7th generation has bluetooth functionality that can connect to the Nike+ sensor. You do not need to purchase the USB kit, but rather just the sensor itself:
Nike + iPod Sensor - Apple Store (U.S.)

iPod nano (7th generation): Frequently used features

    Connect to Bluetooth accessories
You can connect your iPod nano to compatible Bluetooth headsets and other accessories, including some hands-free systems in newer cars. You can also connect to a Nike+ sensor or a Bluetooth heart-rate monitor. iPod nano supports A2DP for audio streaming and AVRCP for controlling playback on Bluetooth devices.
Note: FM radio will not play through a Bluetooth accessory.
    Thanks,

  • TS1484 Will a Nike + IPod sport kit sensor work with a 4s IPhone?

Will a Nike + IPod sport kit sensor work with a 4s IPhone?

I dont doubt your claim of 55-75 hours of usage
solely on running since january. Even though you say
that it has died prematurely with the range of hours
you give since the time you purchased the sensor.
I must ask if you were concious of turning off
the sensor when it was not in usage. You know
hitting that little button on the sensor itself to
deactivate the battery. If your answer is no that you
never remembered to turn off this sensor then. Your
idea that it has died prematurely is bad. Because
without physically turning off the sensor itself
(thats the portion in the sole of the shoe) then it
has been on 24/7 since you purchased it in january.
Now if you have remembered to turn off the sensor
after each run then it might have died prematurely.
IF thats the case I would contact apple or the place
from which you purchased it and ask for some help
    regarding the sensor.
    GFF:)
    Umm, no: From the FAQ
"The sensor’s battery has a life of more than 1000 active hours. The sensor has a sophisticated built-in power management system which means that the sensor really only consumes power when active (that is, when it senses motion)."
Mine is now showing the low battery indicator at 277 hours. I'm not the only one with premature battery failure.

There are more threads (just search on "sensor battery").
This should be covered by the warranty. Can someone from Apple please respond to this thread?

  • IPod Video and Nike + iPod Sport Kit

Does the sport kit work with the video ipod? If not, id there going to be a new version to use with it?

The fifth generation's iPod firmware does not work with the iPod sport kit, possibly because the hard disk on that model of iPod is much more vulnerable to the iPod being dropped than the iPod nano's flash media is.

  • Hey Apple. Expand the iPod Sport Kit to other running shoes.

I'm a runner and used to use Nike products up until I started having severe feet and ankle problems. That's when I found out that Nike shoes are all wrong for my feet mainly because I have a 4E wide foot. Nike never has and never will make a shoe for wide feet because they're shoes are made in sweat shops in Indonesia. I now run in New Balance and have been finding out a lot more distance runners use New Balance over Nike. I have looked at the iPod Sport Kit and like what I see but I will never put it to use as long as it only works with Nike shoes. I understand why Apple chose Nike because Nike is the more the popular shoe on the market. But Apple needs to begin expanding the iPod Sport Kit to work along with other brands of shoes other than Nike. So Apple please expand the iPod Sports Kit to other brands of shoes. I'd really love to use it with New Balance shoes.

I have the marware pouch too but I'm having problems with accuracy. Since switching from the Nike+ sneakers (also don't fit my feet) to using the pouch on non-Nike sneakers, my iPod tells me I've run 25-30% less than the actual distance (anywhere from 0.25 to 12 miles). Trying to recalibrate gives me a message that I haven't run the calibration distance yet (still 25-30% short). Any insight?
(Note: The sensor is not in upside down.)

  • IPod Sport Kit and Racewalkers

I'm trying to decide if the Nike+iPod Sport Kit will work for me. I'm a racewalker and have custom made shoes. Do you have to embed the sensor into the insole of your shoe or can you somehow attach it to the laces on top? I do a fair amount of road miles but don't always know the distance and speed of my workouts.

Much discussed topic on the forum. Go to this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2724034&#2724034
Until I get my Nike+ shoes, I have cut a slit on the inside of the tongue on my Asics (just above where the tongue attaches to the shoe). Works just fine. You need to experiment.

I own a video iPod and I was wondering if anyone knows if I could use the sport kit on my video? if not they should make an update for all fith gen ipods that lets you use the sport kit, because I like to run alot.

  • IPod sport kit and Nordic Track?

Will the sport kit work while using a Nordic Track?
    Thanks,
    Mike

If you mean a Nordic Track cross country ski exercise machine, I decided to try it this morning (more as a lark than anything, just to see what it would track). It did not register anything at all; after a couple of minutes it stopped the workout on its own (presumably because the sensor timed out due to inactivity).
I was hoping that it might work becuase my workout computer on the NT is a bit funky, but no such luck.

  • Do I Need to Purchase the Nike+ Ipod Sport Kit or Just the Nike Sensor

I'm a newbie to all of this. I am considering purchasing either the new Ipod Nano or the updated Ipod Touch (32). Would I need to purchase the Nike Sensor Kit if I purchase the Ipod touch or just the Nike sensor to insert in the shoe? Thanks in advance to whomever can provide guidance on this issue.

I can speak for a new iPod touch and tell you that you only need the sensor. That's what I have and I love it. I'm really enjoying Nike's website and the history it builds.
From what I understand about the new nano, it has some sort of pedometer built right in so you can get a calculation of steps all by itself. You can also add the nike sensor to get more information on your walk/run, I'm just not certain if its the whole kit you need or just the sensor in that instance.

  • IPod Sport Kit Volume levels

I've read the instructions a couple of times and gone through the Nano settings and can't seem to find out how to adjust the Spoken Feedback voice levels. When running I listen to music through Shure sound isolating earphones. At a reasonable sound level (med-hi) when the Feedback occurs, it's super loud. It's so jarring, that I'd consider returning it, if it's not adjustable.
Is this voice level at a standard level or can it be adjusted?
    PowerBook G$   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I also noticed this problem on my third run with the nano. As I walked to my running location, I listened to some music and the volume was fine. I plugged in the Nike sensor into the Nano, and I noticed that the volume for all the music was significantly decreased. I thought I had turned down the volume -- nope. I thought maybe the volume limiter had been turned down -- nope. With everything at maximum power, the volume was downright wimpy - perhaps about half as loud as before (and probably at about the diminished volume the music plays at during the voiceover before returning back to normal). I then pressed the menu button for the voiceover, and mistakenly took 2 years off my ears' life because Ms. Digital Nike yelled at maximum volume.
After a mile or so, I couldn't stand it any more so I stopped and just did a reset of the ipod nano, and that fortunately corrected the volume problem. However, I'm fully expecting this problem to recur in the future. I did notice that, although I started with a fully charged ipod (just detached it from the charger before the run), the battery level had decreased, albeit by the slightest noticeable amount. I hadn't noticed that the battery dropped this quickly before.

  • Nike + iPod Sport Kit...worth it????

I was just curious if anyone has had luck with this item????
If it is worth the purchase????
Is it that hard to operate????

It might be worth it once I can get it to work ....
I bought the Nike+ Kit originally two weeks ago, went for my first run and the pace and distance skipped in and out, meaning I would get a pace/distance reading for a few seconds then not on an on. After running for at least three miles, the Nike+ recorded a distance of .67miles. I tried calibrating it and no luck since it wasn't recording my pace or distance correctly.
I thought, no problem, perhaps I had a defective Nike+ Kit so I returned it and got a new one. Went out again and had the exact same issues/problems. At this point I think it's the software version of my Nano (3rd Gen), I have software version 1.1 which is what came with it. I'm having a hard time upgrading the software to version 1.2 or higher, which is what you need Nike+ Kit.
Has anyone else had these issue?

  • Nike + Ipod Sport Kit sansor

    Hi,
To use the Nike+ on your ipod, you have to have a sansor. But do you have to have a special shoes to put the sansor on it? Or you can just put the sansor on any shoes?
    Thanks

I can add to what Lyssa said--as I have a Nike sensor as well.
I bought a little pouchlike thing that attaches to the top of my shoe. The sensor rides around on that. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Marware-Sportsuit-Sensor-Sport-Black/dp/B000ID6DTG
    Best of luck--
