Ipod starts playing when off

For some reason my Ipod seems to turn itself on and start playing music by itself. I have been sleeping only to be woken up in the middle of the night from music coming from my Ipod. It seems to be playing music from a playlist but it does not always use the same playlist.
Has anyonr else had this problem? Is it a software or hardware problem? How can I fix this?
Thanks

You most likely have an alarm set.
To check go to extras/clock/alarm and set it to off. Check the calendar also, extras/calendar/alarm.

  • IPod starts playing when I unplug something from the headphone jack

    Greetings,
I use Internet radio apps like Pandora and Live365. Often, when I stop the app and unplug the audio cable or earbuds, the iPod app will start playing the very first song (alphabetically speaking) in its library. At full volume, no less. So, I have to quickly hit the iPod button to bring it up, and then hit stop.
It doesn't happen every time, and I can't figure out if there is a particular sequence of events that triggers it, or if it's just random. Anyone else experience this?
    Thanks,
    DM

Due to various hardware issues, I'm on my 4th phone.
Each and every one has displayed this same "unplug and spill one's audio secrets" behavior, usually with incredibly annoying, embarrassing (I have weird, rather personal music tastes, never mind my preference in Podcasts), and potentially battery-draining results (if I leave the phone on my desk and attend a meeting for, say, an hour).
I've "reset" the phone/s (for this and other reasons) and this "feature" of the iPod turning on when I unplug the ear buds has persisted.
I have third-party earbuds (but it happened during all the time I used the Apple ear buds, too). They're the "Ultimate Ears MetroFi 200v" set; they sound great, but the "talk" button is not nearly as cleverly placed as with Apple's (it's too low-- near my belly-button-- and it also protrudes considerably).
The catch-22 for me is that if I just wrap my earbuds around the phone and shove it in my pocket, the button will activate at some point, and I'll find that the iPod has been playing for an hour... if I just yank the buds out (like I WANT to, and ought to be able to), the iPod starts playing, usually at the the loudest volume (leftover from whatever onion-chopping or laundry-folding activity saw me last listening to the phone out loud).
So, it's a bad feature. No option (that I can see) to disable it. A glitch? From Apple? C'mon... all FOUR of my phones have been otherwise perfect, lol...
Sorry for the long rant wherein I didn't even suggest any possible fixes. I'm just glad to have found others experiencing this problem, and glad that I am not the only one who hasn't found a solution.

  • My computer tells me I purchased the Rod Stewart Christmas album, but I did not. How can I get iTunes to cancel this "purchase". Also this thing has just started playing when I turn on my computer, how do I stop it?

My computer tells me I purchased Rod Stewart's Christmas album. I DID NOT. How do I get iTunes to cancel the purchase. Also, this thing has suddenly started playing when I turn on my computer. How do I make it stop?

It is probably too late to cancel it, but contact the iTunes store support staff at http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html and see what they can do for you.

  • Why does my Ipod start playing music when I set it on the Speaker dock?

Everytime I set it on the speaker dock it starts playing the same song without pushing any buttons, even when I just want to charge the Ipod.

Are you using the remote that came with the Apple TV? If so, on the Mac open System Prefs > Security and Privacy and click the "advanced" button. Select the option to "disable remote control infrared receiver" and click OK and close Sys Prefs.

  • IPod starts playing Randomily

A unique feature of my iPod I've just discovered recently.
It will randomily start playing a shuffled playlist of 359 songs for no reason at all when left on its own - even after I have turned it off. I suddenly hear music in my room because it has a "mind" of it own.
And no, there is no alarm set!

Does anyone have any ideas this is bloody annoying - especially since the battery keeps dying because of this.

  • IPod stops playing when using Safari

Ever since I updated to 1.1.2, everytime I'm listening to the iPod and open Safari to surf, the iPod stops playing after about a minute or two. The song isn't over, and its not at the end of the playlist. The music doesn't fade out either, like its receiving a call or email. Just straight up cuts out. I tried restarting the phone, which helped the first time, but now it starting doing it again. I've searched for answers elsewhere, to no avail. Thanks!

I had heard about this for quite awhile, but never experienced it. Then the other day I was sitting outside an Apple Store, listening to some music and decided to take advantage of the free wifi for a moment. Suddenly every song would stop everytime a page loaded or a I used the back button. Totally reproduceable.
I held down the start/off button and turned off my iPhone, waited a few seconds, turned it back on, and the problem went away -- at least for the time beling.
Sorry I don't know a permament solution, but that did work for me.

  • Nano doesn't automatically start playing when connected to docking station

I have a Philips CD/Radio/ipod player that is compatible with my nano. My husband has the a nano (same generation) and when he connects his to the docking station, it automatically starts playing. He can use the controls on the machine vs on the nano. I can only start playing mine by clicking the play button on my nano.
I've gone through both of our nano's to see if there is a difference in settings and I can't find anything that's different.
    Please help...it's really annoying.

So once you start it, can you then use the controls?
So what does it play when he plugs it in? It seems like he must be pre-selecting something to play, so maybe it's already in progress when he plugs in, and you are not doing that. Put some of his music in your iTunes and tell him to make it work - watch what he does very carefully
Does the ipod player say anything in the manual about more than one iPod or automatic playing?

  • Help!my ipod only plays when its in the dock :(

a couple of weeks ago I couln't get my ipod to turn on unless it was in the dock (I've got those little speakers that charge while it plays) so I tried resetting it but nothing happened. I was going to send it off to get it repaired, but tried resetting it one more time and it came on - the only thing is no matter how long it's charged for every time I unplug it, it says the battery is empty, so now it'll only play when it's plugged into the speakers. I'm assuming the battery's a duffer, I only got it at Christmas. Can anyone help??
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Hi,
Same thing happened to a friend of mine.
You need to get it repaired - I don't know where in the UK you live, but if you have access to one of the Apple Stores take it in, other than that take it back to where it was bought, you are obviously under warrantee.
My friends was a duff battery, and they replaced the iPod.

  • My Ipod starts playing in the middle of the night???

Can anyone help? For the last couple of nights, my Ipod has started playing during the middle of the night. I turn it off and put it on hold before I go to sleep but it is still happening?????

You most likely have the alarm set.
    Check calender events also.

  • ITunes automatically starts playing when I get in my car

I drive a Ford with Sync. I have my iPhone 3GS set to automatically connect to the bluetooth in the car when the car is started. In the past few weeks, I noticed my iTunes was automatically starting when it connected with the Bluetooth. It doesn't play through the car, so I don't know its happening unless I look at the phone and see iTunes playing music.
Is there a way to stop it from doing that? Its draining my battery.

I too have this problem, though not with bluetooth. For me the auto-play starts as soon as I connect my iPhone 4S to the radio with a cable I connect to the AV 1/8" port in the center console of my 2007 Honda Accord. Not only does it start auto-playing as soon as I connect the cable, it also immediately starts playing the first music file in my phone as soon as whatever podcast I am listening to has ended
Like others, I find this really annoying, but also a little dangerous. Because some engineer thought that auto-playing the first music file on a device was what most people would want to have happen, I now have to either (1) think ahead to select and pause my podcast or song prior to connecting the cable, or (2) scramble around to stop the auto-playing file while I am driving. This is hampered by the fact that the auto=play does not instantiate Music when it auto-plays, so I have to locate and start up Music and go to Now Playing before I can stop the file from playing.
I do not believe, however, that this is Apple's fault. On no other device anywhere does this auto-play occur except in my Accord. On the other hand, I see people in this thread with the same problem driving cars other than the Accord. This could just be something I need to work around. A bummer, but definitely a First World problem.

  • Looking for Firmware upgrade for IPOD to play when connected to Onkyo RCVR ?

Onkyo support tells me their is a Firmware upgrade for my IPOD NANO that will allow it to play when connected to their reciever.  Newer IPODS work fine.  With my the Onkyo recognizes the IPOD, reacts like it is playing but does not play.

Connect it to your computer and upgrade it in iTunes.

  • Ipod starts playing at random

Why does my iphone start playing music at random? I plug in my headphones to find that it has been playing for the last 15 minutes when I clearly stopped it.

    No problem Steve,
Sometimes I accidentally start music playing when I press the mic button to end a call that has already ended.
You can try resetting the iPhone by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple logo.
You can also try restoring the iPhone to rule out issues with the software on your iPhone. This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744 will walk you through restoring the iPhone.
