IPod stolen! Help me!

My iPod touch 4g was recently stolen and I need to know how to find the serial number on iTunes. I'm pretty sure I lost the box with the code on it. I used Find My iPod, but it isn't connected to wifi. When the thief connects it to iTunes, will it show up on Find My iPod?

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

OK - I think I won't like the answer. But I just have to ask before re-paying for my music again.
My laptop and iPod were stolen. I'm about to order a replacement iPod (Touch). And now, I'm thinking about my music library.
I stupidly didn't back up my music. I just reloaded iTunes and am forlorn to see an empty library. Is there any way that I can reimport the music I've already purchsed thru iTunes store? The iTunes purchase history screen is teasing me by listing all of the music I've purchased with the old iPod.
If I can reload/reimport/re-download music I've already purchased with my old 'puter, that would save me a boatload of cash. (And I figure that I'll just synch my incoming iPod to this 'puter and be good to go again).

I think that may have to re-purchase the music but you may be able to get your insurance to cover this. I don't know your specific details so you would have to contact your insurer.

The easiest way to find your serial number is this Open Itunes...click help... run diagnostics.....(tick or untick as necessary) so that you just have ticked the last two, device connectivity and device sync. run these tests. it will say no ipod/ipad found but will give results of test....scroll down to bottom of results... here you will find the serial number of your last attached devices.

What is the exact error iTunes is giving you? What happens if you do a restore of the device? This will wipe all data from the iPod and reset it to factory settings as well as load a fresh copy of the iPod's firmware onto the device. This should help rule out any sort of software issues/glitches with the iPod.

I tend to make my playlists right on my ipod. This did not happen for the last 2 years. Just started recently. Did get a new computer recently.

That is because you got a new computer. You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. You can sync from any computer to iPod using the manual method but that does not sync from iPod to computer.

No. If you had configured Find My Phone in icloud.com, then you can lock it or erase it, but you cannot recover data from it.
There probably are third-party utilities that might be able to extract data from the backup file itself. Look for them at MacUpdate.

as added protection I have long hair so I use a headset without a band. and you can't tell I'm using headphones.

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod. If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. Something as small as an iPod should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

When I bought my ipod touch I set it up at work. But now we can't have itunes at work so I have to use my home computer. But when I go on my home computer, it cannot sync my ipod as it says it's not the default computer. I have unistalled it on my work computer. I have installed itunes at home. MY 8 month old might have corrupted my ipod. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 8 month old son corroded my USB cable by chewing on the ipod connector. Not realizing this, I come in, plug in my ipod, and get an error that the USB cable is corrupted. I unplug ipod and look at the cable. The part that goes into the ipod is green and crusty...definitely corroded. SO, i go buy a new cable: Dynex dock cable from Best Buy. Just plugged it in, and nothing happened, except my pc is charging my ipod. But no communication from the computer to the ipod. Nothing in windows, or itunes. My ipod still works fine in any other playback dock, it just doesn't allow data transfers from pc to ipod. HELP!!! Is my ipod f'd???????

If you dare you could try cleaning the connector on the ipod - I would try some denatured alcohol on a tiny bit of clean cloth over the end of a really small screwdriver or knife. Carefully wipe both sides of the male connector blade that you can see in the connector port.
You could also try simply plugging /unplugging the cable many times - the wiping action may clean the crud off. Blow on the connectors or use compressed air while you are doing it for good measure.
If you are near an Apple store you could take it to them and have them try it with an Apple brand cable - that may have a better chance of making good contact.

it has synced the other songs I downloaded, but this one will not sync even though it is checked to sync, and appears in the playlist in iTunes. I've reset the iPod to no avail... it's an ipod touch 2nd gen. I've also removed and re-synced the entire playlist and it simply will not put this one track on the iPod. HELP!

I am having the same problem as well. One song, purchased from iTunes, will not sync to my iPod touch. It was on it last week, now it is not there. When I plug the iPod into my PC, the song is in my library and it shows it in the iPod playlist when connected to iTunes...but it is no where to be found on the iPod. I have tried to delete it from the playlist, and put it back in the playlist and re-sync, but it still is not there. It plays on my PC in iTunes. Any ideas out there for this one song issue? my ipod died so I plugged it into my computer, like usual, to charge and when I came back there was an error message that read:
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "mine". Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings"
so I did that, but then I got a new error message saying:
"The iPod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"
I'm connected to the internet though so I have no idea what to do and when I disconnected my iPod all of my music is gone, it's still on iTunes but I would like it back on my iPod
