IPod stops before song is over

Hello, I purchased a new iPod Classic 160GB about 2-3 months ago. I had my old Classic for about 5 years;over the last year I had it the iPod began to stop playing certain songs about 1 minute before the end of the song. This new iPod has been doing it pretty much since I bought it. The song will just stop and the clock/time will appear on the screen with the battery life icon. This occurs very randomly;sometimes after 30 minutes of use, sometimes after 2-3 songs, sometimes not at all. Any idea or fixes I can try? Very disappointing from a brand new unit.
Mary

All of the songs were purchased from iTunes. The new unit is  stopping songs that were problematic on the old unit (songs that were purchased 2 years or more ago) and is now stopping on some more recently purchased songs.
I just went back into iTunes and tried to play one of the involved songs on the laptop through iTunes. I rec'd the following message: "The song "xxxxxxxxx" could not be used because the original file could not be located. Would you like to locate it?" This is the 1st time I've ever rec'd this message and I receive it when I try to play any song from any playlist. I clicked on "Locate" I was taken to the System 32 file. I originally had iTunes on a desk top computer and transferred it over to my new laptop approx 6-7 months ago. Did something go wrong with the transfer?

  • Itunes and Ipod Classic stop before song ends after transfer to new computer

I purchased a new Windows 7 computer and transferred my library from my XP computer.
I restored my library and all seemed well with the world.
I synched my IPod classic 120GB with over 8000 songs.
I was listening to the IPOD on my docking station when I started noticing that songs would just stop before the end of the song.
I thought my 120GB Ipod was dying, so I purchased a new 160GB.
    The problem continued.
I then listened to them on the new computer in Itunes and they did not completely stop, they just skipped to the next track at the same place as it froze on my IPOD.
I listened to the same song on my old computer through Itunes and it played correctly.
I have do not have the Itunes Match and the songs that I currently know that have the problem were purchased on Itunes.
Any suggestions as how to resolve the issue?

I would try copying over the tracks from your XP computer again as the files from the first transfer may be corrupted.

  • Stops before song ends

Hello, Hope someone can help. I have an iPod Classic 30GB. About a month ago it started stopping before a song ended, ie the song would be playing and about 1 minute from the end it would stop. Sometimes it would just stop and go on to the next song, sometimes it would stop and just freeze up. I did a restore, same thing happens but more frequently. I experimented a bit and deleted all instances of a "stopped" song, repurchased it, resynced the iPod....that particular song now plays all the way through. What is going on? Are the song files corrupting? Am I going to eventually have to repurchase all my songs? And and all advice appreciated!!!

Not sure what is happening exactly, but it could be early signs of a dying hard drive.
Try and do a disk diagnostic as described by turingtest2.  The post also explains what each of the numbers mean.

  • Music stops before song is finished

    Help,
On my itunes, I will be listening to music and before the song is supposed to be over it will just jump to the next song, Typically the song will have over a minute left and then just jump to next song in the playlist. I have hundreds of songs doing this and i do not know how to fix this.
    Running current version of Itunes
    Everything is up to date.

  • IPod stops playing song and becomes unresponsive...

My iPod classic stops playing, and the iPods menu won't respond. After 30 seconds or so it works again, and acts as if it had been playing all along (it has moved along to the next song)... any ideas on how to fix this? I reset the thing already to no avail..

I had this  issue too, but it was skipping the song either on Mac and iPhone.
For me worked erase the song in all the devices and download it again.

  • Disk error...Ipod stops uploading songs after 8

I just bought a new ipod... it starts uploading songs fine and normally and then it just stops after 8 songs..and a box with "disk read error......" comes up. I have read and reread all the support info...and have updated windows as much as possible...also i have uninstalled and reinstalled i tunes..and the updater...also reset the ipod...can anyone help please?? I AM so frustrated... or has anyone had a similar problem??

You're lucky - mine stops after 2 or 3. The only workaround I have found is to stop syncing, use the iPod (listen to it) and come back later. Each time I do this it works fine for 1 or 2 new song loads and then I get the disk error. It is as though with any more it is getting "confused".
    Any suggestions.

  • IPod stopped playing songs

I have an iPod mini that used to work.
I linked it to another PC (and iTunes) for a few seconds and since then my ipod will not play anything.
You can see all the songs that I used to have on the ipod, and when you try to play an album it just skips through each song, just displaying the name on the ipod for about half a second, then displaying the next song, and so on.
When I look on the ipod, the available space is 3.7mb which is the max it can be, so it looks as though the actual songs on the hard drive have been deleted, but the names remain.
I have tried connecting it to my pc a number of times, have tried getting updated versions of iTunes and iPod updater, but to no avail.
    Any suggestions ?

You may want to read the user's guide at
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPodmini(2ndGen)UserGuide.pdf
which states the following which is most likely your scenario:
Transferring Songs and Playlists to iPod mini Automatically
By default, iPod mini updates automatically when you connect it to your computer.
iTunes updates the iPod mini music library to match the songs and playlists in your
computer’s music library, transferring new songs to iPod mini and deleting songs from
iPod mini that aren’t in your music library.
You can set iPod mini to transfer only certain songs in your iTunes music library. This is
useful if you have more music on your computer than will fit on your iPod mini.
By connecting to another PC, you may have begun the update process which deletes your music first and then attempts to match what is found in iTunes on the PC you connected to... You should view your ipod mini as a hard disk storage device and check to see if there are any songs on it. I imagine if you connect back to the original PC with your iTunes account, it should hypothetically resynch it and place all your songs back onto the device if any are missing. That is if you haven't mucked up your original iTunes library.
The most common troubleshooting recommendation for ipods doesn't hurt also. That is, reset the device by switching the hold button to on and off. Then press the menu and select buttons simultaneously for 6 secs.
    Good luck!

  • IPod randomly stops uploading songs

I have just restored my iPod (iTunes asked me to) and I have made sure all the options are correct, but for some reason, my iPod stops uploading songs (and is very hot). Sometimes it stops at 34, 72, 110, etc. I also have the most recent iTunes and iPod Software Updater. I don't know whether it's a solvable problem or my iPod is completely broken. Any help would be great.

Yes!!! Me too--Got the folder w/exclamation pt, Restored iPod (a second time after this problem occurred, just to make sure I did it right the 1st time), try to download songs and it'll only do about 5-7 at a time (I don't have as many as a lot of people, but 1200 songs 5 at a time HURTS)! HELP!!! (sorry. very frustrated--this has lasted a week!)

  • When I play my Ipod shuffle 3rd gen there's a moment when I start hearing interference until it stops playing, when I turn it off and on again it starts playing from the first song all over again, and once it sounded like the music was slowing down.

My Ipod shuffle 3rd gen starts playing songs with some kind of interference until it stops playing, when I turn it off and on again it starts playing from the first song all over again, and once it sounded like the music was slowing down.  First I thought it was the earphones, but I exchanged them for newer ones and so far its the same

You may want to do a Restore on the shuffle in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If it's a software or data corruption glitch, the Restore should fix it.  After the Restore, reload or resync your songs, and try it again.  As a test, you may want to initially select a small number of songs to put back on the shuffle.

  • IPod Randomly Stops Playing Songs

Hi, Some songs on my iPod Touch running version 3.1.2, (mostly songs that I downloaded a long time ago) stop playing abruptly about 30 seconds before the song is over. The iPod says that the song is playing, but no audio is coming out. It is very annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem or had found a solution. Thank you for helping me.
P.S. The songs play fine on my 4th generation iPod, (A.K.A. the "iPod Click Wheel") so I know the files are not corrupt.

No, I don't. Even if I did, that would not explain why no audio comes out of the speakers / headphones.

  • I moved all of my music to my new computer and now my ipod touch stops the song at end of it why and how do i fix it easily

i moved all of my music to my new computer and now the songs stop before the end of them or it skips to the next one on the ipod how can i fix it easily

Assuming your library was in the standard layout before you started move the rest of the iTunes folder to the root of the external drive, move the iTunes Media folder inside it, and shift-start iTunes to connect to library file at \iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
See Make a split library portable for some background.

  • IPod stops song, jumps to photos...but its a b&w!

I'm using an older 20G b&w display (click wheel)
My iPod will stop any song I'm listening to and just jump to the "import photos" section. The funny thing is that it doesnt even have a color display. I was shocked to see it had a photo section. Anyways its starting to do it more and more often. Really annoying. I actually sent it off and the work order said they changed the processor board...didnt help much. My thoughts are that with apple coming out with a new iPod every month, its screwing with my iPod's brain. Is anyone having this problem??
Should I just bite the bullet and just get a new one?

My 4g 40gig does this same annoying thing. I have read about several people with the same problem and nobobody knows anything about it. "reset it! the 5rs man! blah blah blah blah" Apple needs to step up and figure this one out. Before I go nuts.

Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Securtiy & Privacy) > Firewall
If you have anti virus software installed, you may need to disable that before downloading.
Restart your Mac and try again.
