Ipod strange Wifi Problem!

Hi Guys, I have a very strange problem with my Ipod: If i try to connect to Internet via Wifi the Ipod simply tells me, that he is unable to join Network xxxxxxxxxx. If i click the Network more often it sometimes connects, but only for like 2 minutes until it disconnects again without error message. I checked password and I'm only like 3 meters away from my router. I restarted my Ipod aswell as my Router, tried to change language to english from my native language. My Router does not filter Mac Adresses. My Ipod is on version 5.0.1 and always tells me that connection range is very good, but it simply is not able to join. Now about the strange things: I do have 2 Ipod's and both had a good working internet connection until last week. From then on both Ipods had this problem. And: IF I go to different spots in my house, I can join the Wifi Network, but it disconnects when I go away from them again, even though my ipod tells me that signal strength is always good. The Spots with working internet seem to be unaffected by distance to my router.
Thanks for your help.

as your ipod is 5.0.1 is still slow, because there is already 5.0.6, you can upgrade the ituneswith my did the same, but already upgraded. your iPod will be updated with aaltomaticamente tempo.e as you use at work you can block or the wi-fi with this problem.

  • Strange wifi problem on a brand-new MacBook Pro

Hey there, I'm new here. Desperation has got the better of me, and I hope I can get some advice.
So, last sunday I bought a brand new 13" MacBookPro with 2.8g i7 processor and 10.7.2 OS (I can't update to 10.7.4 because System Update tells me the download has been tampered with or corrupted after I waited 2 hours for it to finish, but I'm trying a direct download from the website). Here's the exact product: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MD314LL-13-3-Inch-VERSION/dp/B005CWIZ4O/ref= sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1340301247&sr=8-5&keywords=macbook+pro+13
Everything is all perfect except for a strange wifi problem. Note that the wifi does not turn-on or off, it doesn't disconnect after 'sleep', it doesn't get less speed, it doesn't constantly leave a preferred connection (once I chose my home wifi it always connects to it no problem). The wifi bar is always full. What is wrong is that the internet is kinda 'glitchy'. The best metaphor I can think of is that it's like a car that has to be pushed down the road before the engine can start. Please, bear with me because this is kinda hard to explain and I'm not good at tech lingos.
One of the symptoms is browsing can get really slow and inconsistent, almost as if the wifi gets turned off in the middle of browsing. For example: if I look something up on Google and then open 5 new tabs, probably only 2 or 3 of those tabs will eventually load while the other two will not get past the long 'http:.......google.....etc etc' address and will eventually show one of those 'error loading page because there's no Internet connection' notice. This happens a lot. Sometimes I have to refresh/retry loading a page a couple of times before it finally loads, then usually everything will get back to normal and I will be able to open multiple tabs with no problem, but in a couple of minutes I would try to open another site and the problem will start again.
So I tried to see how it does with downloading using iGetter. Fortunately I also have a Macbook (white-plastic casing one) and my brother has an old 2006 MacbookPro so I can compare. With those two older Apples iGetter starts receiving data in less than 8 seconds after I click Start, while my brand-new Macbook Pro can take up to 15-20 seconds, sometimes it doesn't even start at all and I have to re-click the start button. But once the download actually starts (on my new MacBook Pro), it downloads like normal, it doesn't stop and the speed is also as good as I can get. Strange huh? Hence, like a car that has to be pushed before the engine starts.
I also tried 'speed testing' from a website with all 3 laptops. On my old MacBook and my brother's MacBook pro, once I click 'begin test' it takes only a couple of seconds of 'ping' before the download/upload speed measurements start, but with my new MacBook Pro (just like with iGetter) it takes up to almost a minute before the measurements start, sometimes it won't start at all and I have to re-start the test.
Well, thanks for reading. And hope you can help me shed some light into this. Because it is really preventing me from really enjoying my new MacBook Pro. And if this is most likely a hardware problem, I'd better get back to the store and try to get it replace or something while it's only been 5 days. *cheers*

Hey guys.. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I bought the MacBook in Indonesia where there are no such thing as an AppleCare. The only option is to leave the Apple product to one of the 'Authorized Apple care centre' and have whoever do whatever to it without guarantee of success. As for returning it and getting a brand new one, I also don't know if there is such a deal here, but that's actually a good idea, will try to go to the store tomorrow. Although, I'm worried that the problem might be with OSX Lion or something and getting a new one won't help.
mark75090, I've tried resetting the router when I first noticed te problem, didn't work though. I've checked my new MacBook's wi-fi (option+click wifi bar) and it says 'PHY Mode: 802.11g', so does my MacBook and the old MacBook Pro. I don't know what those mean though, and I don't know whether or not my router is an N., can you tell me more please.. I have tried with the other two turned off, and only the new MacBook using the wi-fi but the problem persists. I have also tried connecting directly to the router, but as I described, the problem is too subtle for me to notice the difference.
Also, if I create a brand new Wi-Fi connection in network preferences and connect to my router through the new Wi-Fi profile, the problem seems to be gone for an hour or so, then it always comes back though. I have also just finally installed 10.7.4, but it doesn't help either.

Have never heard of that problem before so can only give you an idea of some things to check.
Check in the Homehub management that it is not set to block access to the mobile devices. If you did a factory reset of the hub then it should have cleared any settings but it might be worth checking.
Have you checked that they are connecting to your Homehub and not to BTWifi which would require further log on to get internet access.
What exactly is happening with the devices when you try to connect to the internet. Is it all things to do with the internet or can you connect by 3g?
Have you tried to connect using another router such as at a friends house?

my iPod touch 16GB has had WiFi problems for about
    two weeks now.
it says that im connected to my network. but i keep getting an error saying

I just solved this same issue by downloading a firmware update for my wireless router. Give it a shot!

  • Strange Wifi problem

    Hello all,
Im aware that most of you are not waiting for yet another wifi problem and I always try to solve them myself, but this time Im not able to do so. The problem is as follows. On my university, I can get a good wifi connection for approximately 30 minutes, (IP and data) but then the connection refuses to transmit any more data.
I've tried multiple wifi cards (Centrino 1030, Ralink RT5370) and dongles, they all give the same problem so I assume thats not the cause of the problem. Also in Windows the connection is kept alive continuously, so thats another confirmation the hardware is working fine.
My guess is that there is a problem in the configuration of my wifi connection on Arch. Two possibilities pop up to me.
    1. There is some kind of threshold (time or amount of data), that blocks the connection after a while
    2. The wifi connection needs to be refreshed each particular amount of time but Arch (dhclient / dhcpd) is not able to do so
My question is, do you have any suggestions how I could test for both theories or even better solve the problem. Its very annoying when Im working the internet connection stops working every 20 minutes or so. Thanks!

This seems the most likely to me - as this is how it works.  But knowing which one of those tools you use would be helpful.  When you connect dhcpcd and/or dhclient gets a lease from the DHCP server on the university network.  These leases have a fixed lifespan (30-minutes sounds reasonable).  When they are about to expire dhcpcd/dhclient should try to renew the lease.  Generally, though, the DHCP server (as far as I understand it) will trigger the renewal a bit before the expiration time.  Based on my experience at a few universities, however, university networks (at least in the US) often have malfunctioning dhcp servers which limp along mostly functional on most days.  I don't know the workings well enough to understand why dhcpcd or dhclient would fail to renew the lease when they are supposed to - even in the absence of the early-renewal trigger from the server, but anecdotally, I see this happen occasionally as well.
And this is complete speculation but I wonder if it is possible for the DHCP server to send out over-estimated lifespans for the lease which then prevents dhcpcd from renewing at the appropriate time.  I don't know these systems well enough to know if this idea makes any sense - but it would certainly fit with my experiences.

  • Ipod touch WiFi problems to be fixed in 3.0 Firmware?

Basically, I bought my ipod touch brand new about a month ago (2G, 2.2.1 firmware). Ever since I opened it (approx. 2 weeks ago) the WiFi has been pretty sketchy. I get an error "server stopped responding" a lot (maybe like 2-8 mins of browsing) on safari as well as apps.
I took my problem to the apple store and the guy basically did a diagnostic and said nothing was wrong, but my apps were crashing a lot. He did a complete wiping of the hard drive (back to factory with all of my apps gone and stuff) and basically It still doesn't work right.
So, Should I go back to the apple store? Or, Are these problems planned on being fixed in the 3.0 Firmware? If you have any other solutions please let me know

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
3.0 is supposed to have some WiFi fixes - I'll let you know in a week or so. However, your problem with WiFi is most likely a router or DNS problem. The router part is easy - just reboot it by unplugging it and then plug it back in. DNS problems are an ISP issue and if that is what is going on, you should notice the same type of lag with your MacBook.
Fixing DNS problems are reasonably easy. Check out OpenDNS.com which will provide you with both instructions and an alternate to your ISP's service.
App problems can be caused by many things, including the app itself. What the Genius did for you at the Apple store was to restore you iPod to new. You can download your apps again without having to pay for them.

  • 3rd Gen Ipod Touch WiFi problems

my brother has a 1st gen ipod and its wifi is working fine downstairs in our house, my new 3rd gen will not recieve a signal in the exact same place, any ideas?

    See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
It is frequently a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
I would also try placing the iPod in a bag of uncooked rice for a couple of days to ensure the iPod is dry.

  • Strange wifi problem, laptops work fine, phones do...

we have a homehub3 and have just started having a very strange problem
The laptops in the house all connect and work fine over the wifi as normal, but as from yesterday our, ipad, 2 iphones and a samsung galaxy all connect to the wifi, but cant actually use the internet. we've tried restarting everything, forgetting the wireless connections on the phones and reconnecting but nothing appears to work. Any suggestions?

ok, so I own an iPod 5 16gb and I have been having a problem with the Internet. I can connect just fine however after 5 minutes of using it nothing will work, apps won't losd. safari just says cannot connect to server and i can't load anything in the AppStore, basically I can't use Internet. If I restart my device it works, but only for 5 minutes. I'm still on IOS7 (The problem is keeping me from updating) and I would appreciate it if anyone could help or at least let me know if they're having the same problem, k have tried a different wifi router, howevrr yhe same exact thing happened, the Internet works just fine in my iPad.

    Hey Te_Splashy,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are experiencing issues with network connectivity, specifically it seems like your network connection is timing out.
The following resource provides troubleshooting steps for these symptoms, including updating your device to the latest version of software. To do so, you can connect your iPod to a computer running iTunes and update:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your W-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap  and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Unable to access the Internet while connected to Wi-Fi
If you're using a public or commercial network, you may need to log in or subscribe.
Check to see if you have a self-assigned IP address:
    Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected and tap ( i ) .
If your IP address is 169.254.xxx.xxx, you may not be able to access the Internet.
If you do not have a self-assigned IP address, see if other Wi-Fi devices on your network have Internet access.
If they do not, consult with your network administrator or ISP for further assistance.
If they do, reset network settings on your device by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Ipod touch Wifi problem... Please Help :(

Hi. Ive just recently started having trouble with my ipod touch. I cant stand more then 10 yrds away witout it detecting my wifi. All my other devices work fine. Ive tried reseting my ipods and making it back to its normal form and resetting the network and still no result. Ive also turned it off for a few mins and still no results . I recently did though get a little crack on my ipod touch maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago on the top left part of the screen I dont know if that has anything to do with it or what... Idk what I can do. Could someone give me some advice. Should I go to an apple store today? How much might it cost to get this fixed?

Here is Apple's price list. I suspect a hardware problem and it may be related to what caused the cracked screen.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/#us
You may find that a third-party place like the following is less expensive:

  • New Ipod Touch, WiFi problem.

I just got my Ipod yesterday brought it home hooked up connected to my WiFi fine. Now today I keep getting "Unable To Join Network" message. I've checked a few sites to see what to do and am still getting the same error.
Any help would be great as I have no idea what to do.

But when I go back to home screen it says I'm connected to WiFi but browsers or nothing work still.
That indicator only means your touch can connect to the router - not that the router has connected your touch to the Internet.
Go to: Settings>Wi-Fi then touch the blue triangle to the right of the router you are connected to. What IP Address is shown? (If it starts with 169.xxx, the address is self assigned and the router hasn't connected to to the Internet.)

  • Re: Satellite C660-115 Very strange Wifi problems!

I've been busy solving a wireless problem on a C660-115, still without success.
    Satellite C660-115
    Windows 7 - 64Bits
    The case:
    - Laptop is connected to the power supply: Wifi works fine, no problems
    - Laptop disconnected from power supply: Wifi won't work, although there sometimes seems to be a connection with the access point/wifi router.
    No internet/network communication
    - Laptop connected to the power supply --> wifi works, unplugging the power supply --> after a 1/2 minute or so, no internet connection...
I tried to find a new driver, but we already use the latest version.
Then i switched off the "This computer may switch of this device to save energy" function, without succes.
    Ideas anyone?

I had same problem with C660 running windows 7 losing internet access but not network connection whilst using battery power, but no problems when connected to mains power.
Solution; Change power plan to high performance. I found this sovlved the problem instantly.

  • Ipod Touch-WIFI Problems-Can't Connect More than One at Same time

I'm not an Ipod Touch user yet, but three family members are. Unfortunately, only one will connect to the Internet on our home wifi at a time. Each one works just fine on its own and will make the connection, but if one is already turned on it blocks the others. I have a laptop and it connects fine regardless of the Ipod Touch issues. I'm using a Linksys router if that matters. Looked everywhere but can't find someone experiencing similar issues. Thanks for any ideas/thoughts/help!

Take a look at your router's settings for DHCP. Normally there is range associated for the allocation of IP addresses for wireless devices. For example, you would set DHCP to on, IP address range from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.128. The normal defaults on the router should have given you an adequate range of address but you may have inadvertently changed something.

  • Strange wifi problems..

Hi, I can't connect my macbook pro with my wifi at home. All the other devices work just fine.. The strang thing is that I can go to other places and there the wifi works just fine..
I tryed a lot of tricks from other discussions but nothing helped..

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
