Ipod stuck in disk mode not reconized by itunes

my 4 gb ipod nano recently got all of my songs erased off it and i couldn't put any back on in itunes.
i tried the 5 r's (did nothing) and after d/c then hooked it back into itunes, itunes didn't reconize the ipod (but windows still does).
when i tried to restore it to factory settings it put it in disk mode and i can't get it back to normal after many attempts.
i uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and my ipod. still didn't fix the problem
i ran cmd and did the chkdsk and even the format E: and it says that the file system is RAW. please use the fs/ switch to specify the file system you wish to use on this volume.
when i try to use the ipod updater it now freezes on me.
i don't know if this helps but when i turn on the ipod that file folder w/ exclaimation point comes up and tells me to go to www.apple.com/support/ipod
i did. tried everythign they said. nothing.
do i take my ipod back to the store or what?

ahh! mines doing the same thing!!! i dunno what to do. i hate ipods. the only reason i have this one is cause i won it off the radio. -_-

  • 3rd gen iPod stuck in disk mode

Just realised I'd posted this in the wrong forum:
    Hi,
I've got a massive problem with my trusty old 3rd generation iPod and I'm hoping someone can help me out. This may just be a sign I should get with the times and get something a bit more up-to-date, but this iPod has served me well over the years and I'd like to see if I can fix it first.
Basically, the iPod is well and truly stuck in disk mode. I've tried over and over again to reset in various different ways. It's nothing to do with me having to connect it to my computer via USB, either, since I've tried it with my sister's computer via FireWire and it's still not happy.
I don't get a sad iPod picture or anything - it's just when I turn it on I get a picture of a folder with a hazard sign over it, and can't get rid of it.
iTunes 9 isn't the problem, since it got stuck in Disk Mode before I upgraded.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do? Like I said, I've tried over and over to reset it, so please don't just suggest that.

Sounds like you covered most of the basics and it would seem that it is indeed your iPod's controller that is the problem. Not sure what else we can add to what you have already tried, which is above and beyond what most people are capable of doing.
When you plug it into the computer does it actually show up as an external hard drive and can you use it as one?
    Sorry,
    Patrick

  • IPod stuck in Disk Mode(Restart won't work)

My iPod is stuck in disk mode, and no matter how many times I restart it, it stays in this. I've tried the 5R's and I've tried restarting it. Is there any other fixes?

I know, you have tried a Restart and the 5Rs, but can you try the Hard Reset,  as below disconnected from the PC.
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs

  • IPod stuck in disk mode

I have had all the same problems as everone else... ipod isn't recognized anywhere. I followed steps provided by gailpod and weemalky and though that everything had worked but when i brought up the updater it said "iPod manager internal error". My ipod seems to be stuck in disk mode and when i try to run a new version of the updater (as apple suggests) it asks if i'm sure i want to remove the program... Remove?? it was supposed to be installing. Does anyone know what is going on here?

Make sure you toggle the hold switch on and off then reset by holding the center button and menu button for about 6-10 seconds

    Zach,
    Need a little more info:
    - What OS are you using--Mac or Windows?
    - Does your nano show up in iTunes when you connect it?
    - Is your 'Hold' button showing white next to it (meaning it is off)?

  • Ipod 5th Gen Video 80Gb disk mode not recognized on itunes

    Hi there everyone,
So i have my ipod 5th gen 80GB video and here's my problem.
Time ago i had it in a pocket of my backpack that was supposed to be waterproof. We got completely washed in NYC and when i took it out of my backpack pocket the ipod was dead or behaving in a weird way.
It didn't turn on then i let it dry. After weeks i've been trying to charge it but it seems it had battery problems so i bought a new one and replaced.
Now the ipod stays on but it keeps restarting showing me the sad face. Then it restarts beginning fgrom the apple logo and the same thing comes up.
I can put it in disk mode and also in the diagnostic mode thru the key combination.
I let it sit for 24 hours more or less to the wall charger and the battery seems to be completely full and the ipod stays on, still fiving me the same synthoms. Then i put it in disk mode while downloading the last version of itunes (9). When i plug it in, i hear the sound that windows makes when you plug something via usb. It installs the software and it sees it as an ipod device. But itunes WON'T.
This appens with every usb port that i have. I can put it in disk mode even plugged into the computer, i hear the windows sound like i just plugged something in but nothing.
When i reset the ipod, sometimes i see the screen that tells me to connect the ipod to itunes and procede to the restore.
Sometimes i see the big V and the "ok to disconnect". The if i plug it in with itunes open on my desktop i see the "do not disconnect" but nothing happens, it will not see it yet.
After 30 secs more or less, the ipod restarts again on its own showing me the sad face.
If i turn it off it tells me "very low battery" but i don't know if this last one statement its important or not.
I know already that all of my music and videos are gone. I just would like to get to the restore step then i'll start over again loading music and videos.
What kind of problem do you think it has? Is there another hardware component damaged that needs to be replaced?
Is there a solution for this kind of issue?
Of course i've been following ALL the apple instructions on the website, the 5 R's and so on but nothing worked.
I really hope that someone in here could give me an hint because at this point i really don't know where to crush my head
Thank you so much for your time!

I'm having the same exact problem. When I first started using Vista it was fine, but now all of the sudden it will do nothing with My iPod and it kind of angers me.

  • TS1538 Ipod Touch stuck in DFU mode, not recognized in itunes after 1602 error restoring.

I've tried all of the: Hold Power button and Home items. It's plugged into the computer, screen is black. Windows sees the apple mobile device driver under devices and hardware. The driver's properties says it's in DFU mode. It was constatnly stuck in Recovery mode showing the CD+music note icon and the 30-pin connector image. Connecting the ipod to the computer, windows makes the connection sound but itunes does not open. Opening itunes, ipod is not recognized.
    It's a gen 1 touch, version 2.? firmware, I think.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • 30 GB Photo iPod Stuck in Disk Mode

My iPod recently froze out of nowhere and I eventually got it to get away from the sad iPod screen and into disk mode, now I can't seem to get it out of disk mode. What do I do?? Thanks.

I forgot to mention that my computer recognizes it, but iTunes doesn't.

  • HELP! my ipod will NOT restore and is stuck in disk mode....

My ipod told me one day that it needed to be restored with itunes so i obliged.
I tried all usual stuff at first(play/pause and menu, menu select and toggle hold etc) but didnt work so resigned myself to losing all those magnificent songs id compiled by resetting by restoring to factory settings with itunes software. its made so much worse by the fact im travelling so have no access to my computer and have to listen to my friends playing jack johnson ALL the time! ye gods!
Have tried multiple times on various computers but doesn't work! just stuck in disk mode. Is there anything i can do except taking a hammer to the little bugger?!!!
    ipod nano (2nd)

In some cases, the iPod might get into a state in which the battery needs to be drained before it can be reset so try these steps.
    1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
    2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or the computer and reset it.

  • IPod (dock connector) stuck in disk mode

i just replaced the HD on my iPod(dock connector)and now it stuck on disk mode. i tried to reset but it showed a folder with an exclaimation point and went back to disk mode flashing the "do not" symbol and "do not disconnect". it don't show up on my PC or my iTunes. HELP!

That's super odd. It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • My iPod Classic is stuck in disk mode, won't charge on a wall mount, iTunes won't recognize it, and it got this way from me trying to restore it like it said. What do I do now?

So, I tried to restore my iPod to the factory settings via iTunes. It has been a few days now and its still stuck in disk mode telling me "Do Not Disconnect" and it only charges on my laptop. I tried hooking it up to a wall mount to charge and than it told me that I need to use iTunes to restore it. Here's the thing, it won't leave disk mode and its not registering on my iTunes. What can I do to get it back to normal,
Oh yeah, all of the latest updates for my software and iTunes are current.
