Ipod stuck on apple icon

i dont know how this happened. my ipod seems frozen and only displays the apple icon. i tried to reset it (toggle hold, then hold down middle and menu button) but it just goes back to the apple logo.
any helpful suggestions?
thanks

Hi oliver john!
Try putting your iPod into disk mode - can you get it into disk mode, past the Apple logo screen?
For instructions on forcing your iPod into disk mode, see this article:
Putting iPod into disk mode
If you can get your iPod into disk mode, then I would now suggest that you try restoring your iPod in iTunes (if it is recognized in iTunes).
For info on restoring an iPod, see this:

  • Ipod stuck on apple icon, computer wont recognize, restarts don't work.

My ipod mini is stuck on the apple icon. Whenever I do the manual reset, the apple dissapears and comes back. My computer won't recognize it, and when I tried to have my ipod sent in to apple to be repaired, it said my serial number is not valid. Help me please.

    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Try to connect on a different computer i.e. a PC formatted iPod connect with a Mac computer or Mac formatted iPod with a Window base PC.
    8. Try to do a Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a reformat with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer).
    9. Try to run the iPod in “Diagnostic mode” . which can be accessed by pushing the “hold” switch into the “on” position and then “off” (into the original position). Then press the following buttons in the following order: “menu” plus “select” (centre button) then press “reverse” plus “select”. This will take you to the hidden diagnostic mode screen menu. It may take a few trials and pressing the buttons in the right way for this to work, so be patient and keep trying if you have to. The diagnostic mode will give you 7 choices which are: Memory, IO, Power, Status, SysCfg, Diskmode, and Reset. Don’t bother trying “reset” because in my case it didn’t work it just took me back to the same problem. Instead, choose “diskmode”, after which you should get an odd looking “ok to disconnect” sign on the iPod screen.
If one of the above step helps to get your iPod to be recognized with your computer, do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 4s won't reboot after ios7 update. I have restored 4 times. Every time it gets stuck on Apple icon with update bar at 10%

4s won't reboot after ios7 update. I have restored 4 times. Every time it gets stuck on Apple icon with update bar at 10%
    HELP!

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • 3rd Generation iPod continually shows apple icon

3rd Generation iPod continually shows apple icon, it does not mount and cannot be seen via disk utility - despite being reset, recharged (on dock but doesn't show charge icon just the apple), cables tested/exchanged, battery swapped out with another. It will not switch off at all. I cannot restore the software as it is not recognised. However I can feel it "working", i can feel it reset each time and it gets quite warm. Any suggestions?

  • Ipod Mini stuck on Apple Icon Screen

I was using my ipod mini, and had it connected to my computer, and the computer crashed. Now the screen perpetually has the Apple Icon on it. Permanently. I've tried resetting the mini (by holding the menu and select keys, and also by holding the menu and play keys), and what happens is the Apple Icon dissapears for a few moments, then returns. Sometimes I'll get the low battery icon too. Then it's back to the apple icon on screen. Basically, I'm not able to reset the little bugger. I'm scanning the boards and have read the FAQs, and hope I'm not out of luck. Please help.

    Hello,
Have you tried restoring your iPod?
    Restore your iPod
Try running down your iPod's battery (by leaving it on) then turning it off, and plugging it into the power source for at least 24 hours. See what happens.

  • My ipod touch is connected to my USB port, it sais it's charging although... it doesn't show on itunes that i have plugged my device in, once i turn my ipod on the apple icon appears but then loses battery streight away and starts off all over again.

although it is doing what i asked it to do, i want it to charge, ok so it does it... although when i turn it on it's as if it's either not charged at all but only enough to have the apple icon on my ipod, once it's had enough (which is like, a minute) it switches itself off and carries on charging, sometimes it switches itself on but this just takes it back to step one. also, when i connect my device to the USB port itunes does not recognise it for some reason, i've updated the newest version of itunes recently and i've tried annother ipod on annother computer with the same USB cable, so it's either the newest version of itunes, my ipod or my computer. please help
    P.S,
i do have the required version of windows for this to work, my computer isn't a mac, it's a pc, hope this helps...

how long have you had your ipod? mine did the same but after a while you need to get a new one because of the battery...

  • Ipod nano displays apple icon and doesn't work

I bought this nano as a gift (I already have an identical one). There were no problems syncing the content and registering the device, but once it is disconnected from the system, if you navigate to a song on the device and hit "[play", the screen goes black and will only display an apple icon.
I returned the first one thinking it's a hardware issue, but the replacement is doing the exact same thing, leading me to believ it is a setting or software issue. I got the replacement in a completely different Best Buy too, just to try and get one from a different batch. Any ideas what's going on?

Make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes and the Ipod's firmware is up to date.
Make sure the "screen lock" is not set to on. Make sure the hold button at the top of iPod Nano is in the "off" position.

  • Powerbook stuck on apple icon screen

When I try to start my powerbook it makes the chime then is stuck on the grey screen with the apple icon. No response from any keys. There is a dvd in the drive, so i can't put my install disk in it.
I've read that people were able to boot from the disk and then use disk utility, but i'm unaware of how to do this.
Also, i don't have my install disk with me, (i'm at college).
Any help would be great since it is out of warranty. Thanks!

Target Disc mode mounts the hard drives attached (internal or external) to one Mac, on a second Mac. This is done for many reasons, sometimes to move files, other times to run various utilities on the main drive of a computer without having to boot from the CD/DVD.
The process for you is quite simple. Take the powered-off Powerbook with the problem drive and connect it to a second powered-on Mac with a FireWire cable. Then, power on the Powerbook while holding down the T key on the keyboard of said PowerBook. Very quickly, a symbol that looks like a Y should appear on the screen of the PowerBook and very quickly afterword any working disc on the Powerbook should show up on the 2nd Mac.
The program I use to recover (NOT REPAIR) bad hard drives is called Data Rescue II. I have used it in a number of cases to rescue the data on hard drives that no other utility can do anything with (even see sometimes). You run it on the 2nd Mac, and hope that it sees the bad drive on the PowerBook at which point you can get what you can off it (you need to have another drive to put the recovered data). You can try Data Rescue for free, it will show you if it can see the drive and what it can see on it. To recover data, you have to buy the utility. And yes, it can find stuff on drives that look empty.
    Good Luck.

did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes up again? If yes and no change, try to connect in recovery mode, shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Make sure you charged your phone at least 10min before connecting.
