IPod stuck on Apple logo

After running the iPod updater because I updated my iTunes to version 6, I was told to remove my iPod and attatch to external power source to flash the firmware. When I plugged it into the wall, it has been stuck on the Apple logo ever since (going on 5 hours now). I have done numerous resets, tried to plug into the computer to run updater again, but it won't even recognize that it has been plugged into the computer.
I'm pretty much at the end of things I can think to do.
This is on a 15 gig iPod.

Okay, after letting my ipod totally uncharge (nothing on the screen). I unplugged the firewall cord, shut down and then restarted my computer, replugged the cord and plugged in my ipod. My computer recognized it this time and then I opened the update file again (programs, ipod, updated 9-23-05) and chose restore again, this time it restored (which means erases everything and puts it back to the factory settings)
Fortunately my music files were still on my itunes so after restoring, I again shut down the computer and repeated the process before, unplugged cord and ipod, restart, plug in the cord and the ipod. A screen came up to rename my ipod and setup my preferences just like when I first setup the ipod and after that it reloaded my songs and is working fine now, but I have spent all day messing with this silly machine. The next step I was going to try if this didn't work was load my setup cd that came with the ipod but I didn't need to and I was surprised that I didn't. Hope this helps. My ipod is the 20gb clickwheel. Good Luck.

  • IPod stuck on apple logo; hard drive is fine

I've had the same issue across three iPods: I sync the device with my library, and shortly after beginning use it freezes up, resets, and gets stuck on the Apple logo. Yesterday, one Apple employee was able to make it function properly for a good few hours, but now it's back on the Apple logo. This guy also confirmed the hard drive was perfectly fine. The simple solution of putting the iPod into disk mode and then restoring on iTunes doesn't seem to work. What is going on? I'm fed up at his point and seriously considering switching to a different mp3 player. A year of dealing with this problem on and off is far too long.

Just to confirm: You've done what was discussed in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1372?viewlocale=en_US . You've tried a higher-powered USB port and such. You've also tried what is at the bottom of this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17231703#17231703 . If none of that is working, let's think about what common problems we can eliminate:
    1) If this problem only occurred with the new version of iTunes, then it might be worth trying an earlier version of iTunes. I've got a link on where to find one in a post where I've collected what I've learned here (http://cahighways.org/wordpress/?p=4747). However, if you've been fighting this problem for a year, it likely was still happening on 10.4.
    2) So iTunes is out. The iPod could be in a confused state. That's why you do the 5Rs, in particular, resetting it and if necessary restoring it.
    3) But as I recall, you can't restore. Is the computer recognizing something when you connect the two? If not, it could be the cable. If you have a different connector cable, I'd try that.
    4) Let's assume the cable is good. Could be the USB port. Try different USB ports to see if that solves the problem.
    5) If things still keep mucking up, then I'd try the Apple Store, for it is starting to sound if some piece of logic in the hardware has fried. The disk could be fine, but the connector ports could be going, circuit board could be bad. Oh, you have charged the iPod up fully, haven't you?

  • IPod stuck on apple logo, will not reset, charge or appear in itunes.

I connected my windows formatted ipod to a friend's pc today to copy a video onto the drive, then ejected the safely remove option from the dock and disconnected the ipod.
Then the ipod rebooted, and the apple logo just stayed there, it wouldnt shut off. I reset the ipod, repeatedly, perhaps a half a dozen times in a single press, and no go.
I connected it to the computer again, no.
reset it again while connected, nothing.
so i gave up and put it into my bag, and when i took it out a few hours later the screen was still on with the apple logo shining brightly. shortly after that the battery died.
Then I downloaded itunes to another friend's pc, connected the ipod and got the 'please wait very low battery' message. after a little while, the apple logo came back on, ...and got stuck again. It wont show up in itunes at all.
I left it charging for about at least a half an hour, then unplugged it and the screen went blank- it hadnt been charging at all.
Plugged it back in and got the very low battery message again for a while, and now the apple logo is back on, and its still not showing up in itunes. Oops, now its back to the very low battery again. Still plugged in.
I am not travelling at the moment with my own macbook pro and its music library.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks! Neptune.

My ipod is not having a weak battery problem, it was working fine till it rebooted as i disconnected it from that pc. it just stays on startup mode with the backlight on, and just wont start up. so it drains the battery till it dies, and since then also hasnt been charging while it is plugged into a usb port, with the screen just shining brightly... • Help me ipod stuck on apple logo

ipod is stuck on the apple logo
    cant restore
    how do i fix it

Well ironically I experienced this same problem just a little while ago. It must have been because I read this topic. lol
I had just downloaded a new app and all seemed good until I went back to the app store. My ipod locked up so I reboot it. Thats when it got stuck on the apple screen and wouldn't do anything. Connecting to itunes made itunes lock up too.
    But I found a fix.
    This is what you do:
    1. Connect the USB cable to your ipod but NOT your computer.
    2. Open iTunes
    3. Hold the Sleep and Home buttons until your screen goes blank.
    4. Let go of the Sleep button (the one on top) and continue to hold Home (the round button below the screen) and plug the USB cable back into the computer. It should take about 15-30sec and iTunes will find your ipod and say it is in restore mode, continue with the full restore and use the back up version from your previous sync. Be very patient, this is not a quick task, but it will restore everything back to your ipod.
    GOOD LUCK!!

  • Ipod stuck on apple logo 3rd gen

ok so this happede a long time ago but i accedentally updated my ipod to 3.1.2 and couldn't downgrade it, so i jailbroke it with spirit, after some months i accedntly let the battery run under 2% and ever since its been stuck on the apple logo.
NOTE: IT WONT CONNECT TO ITUNES, CAN'T REBOOT IT BY ANY BUTTONS ON THE IPOD AND I HAVENT GONE TO AN APPLE STORE YET.

If you put the iPod in DFU mode does it connect to iTunes as an iPod in recovery mode? At least then you could restore it and sync your data back.
To put the iPod into DFU mode:
    1. Make sure the iPod is connected to the computer
    2. Hold down the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 8 seconds
    3. Let go of the sleep/wake button and keep holding down the home button
    4. If you are successful, a dialog box will pop up in iTunes stating that iTunes has detected an iPod/iPhone in recovery mode, the iPod screen will remain black.
    5. Click OK, then click the restore button in iTunes.
Hopefully after that, the iPod will be up and running so you can sync your content back.

  • Ipod stuck on apple logo and when i plug in the computer dosent pick it up

My ipod is stuck on the appel logo and when i conect it to my computer it just keeps it on but the computer dosent even notice that its plugegd in nothign happens itunes and my computer show that nothigns plugged in.the only ay to turn on is to connect to computer and when i unplug it just stays on apple logo until it dies.

Mine is doing the same thing. I synced the ipod with the library playlist and once it finished syncing it said 'sync completed' and it looked like it was restarting itself but now it's just frozen on the apple logo. Does anyone know how to fix it? I've tried restarting it but it keeps freezing up on the apple logo and won't completely reboot!

  • IPod stuck on apple logo and isn't recognized by my computer

Hi, my ipod just today, got stuck on the apple logo and when I held the menu and center button it would reboot and would get stuck again. Also, I tried hooking it to my computer and setting it in disk mode but, both of my new computers don't recognize it. So, I decided to see if I could run diagnostics mode on the ipod by holding the center and rewind button but, I can't even access that for some reason. I seriously need some help here folks.

I have the same problem. Everytime I try to reset it loops back into the apple logo. But the apple logo is different isn't it? The screen is black with the logo white. Isn't the screen supposed to be blank with the apple logo black. I can't remember anymore I've been staring at this screen for days now.
Before it started looping I actually did get to run a diagnostic check. It didn't help though. It would go through everything then try to check the firewire. At that point it would just wait for me to plug in the firewire. Isn't that for older ipods?
At another point I did get it to go into disk mode. But when I would try to restore or update an error message would come up or I would get the folder with the exclamation point. But now all it does is loop into the white apple logo.
    Can anyone help?

  • Ipod stuck on apple logo; tried everything

The iPod is about 4 or 5 years old, and it's been washed once with no problems. A while back, it decided to just stop working. It's been stuck on the apple logo for a couple of months. I've tried everything. I checked the iPod Diagnostics and it said everything was fine. I put it into Disk Mode and restored it, nothing changed. I've tried reformatting, nothing changed. I've reset the thing I don't know how many times, nothing changed. Sometimes the apple sign is dim, sometimes it's bright. At one point, a thingy popped up on my laptop that said to scan and fix the iPod, but then it said that it couldn't find any problems. So I tried it on another laptop, and this time it said it fixed the problems. But it was still stuck on the apple logo. When I get frustrated, I'll just leave it alone and random screens will pop up. Like it got to the languages page as if it was turned on for the first time, but it wouldn't let me select anything. And then there was a low battery screen that told me to connect it to a power source, but it wouldn't get recognized by my laptop. And the only way to get the iPod to turn off is to just let it die, because the iPod refuses to turn off with the power button. I'm at a total loss at this point.

So even after restoring the iPod to factory settings via iTunes, it still wouldn't boot past the Apple logo?  Did you follow the instructions in this article for restoring the Nano?

  • IPod stuck on Apple logo with loading bar that doesn't move.

My iPod won't turn on so i tried to factory reset it, and it is stuck on the apple logo with a loading bar that's empty and wont move. iTunes also says "Waiting for iPod." Help please!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Ipod stuck on apple logo screen

just tonight when I went to eject my ipod from the computer I noticed that it just shows the grey screen with the apple logo then it flashes a black screen for a second and back to the apple logo it keeps doing that and I can't seem to restart it. I have no idea what to do. I don't even know what happened it was working totally fine earlier today. Also I tried plugging it back in to the computer and it's not even recognizing that it is there. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have alot of stuff on there I'd really rather not lose

I had same thing happened. I sent it into apple who said there was broken glass in the headphone. I thought that was weird. I received the ipod back and they said my warranty was broken. I looked in the head phone jack, there was no glass. I never had any problem with the head phone. It hasn't had a fall or anything. Now I feel like I frozen out of any help. I don't know if they were looking at the wrong ipod or what. I have no idea what to do now. It is so frustrating because I think there might be a software solution. I can install music and uninstall music at itunes. I guess if nothing else it is a still a really crappy flash drive that will only store music and videos. But I am really frustrated. Please let me know if you find anything out.

  • IPod stuck on apple logo - doesn't turn on

I've got a third generation iPod (with four buttons across the top) which I've had for about three years now. Over the past 6 months it's been crashing and freezing. resetting it would normally resolve the issue, but I would have to keep resetting sometimes up to about 20 times.
Now it just stays on the apple logo and I can hear the disk whirring away inside. It won't boot up at all. I can get it into disk mode and mount onto computer, which it sees in iTunes. I can restore it and update it in disk mode, but it won't turn on as normal and the computer doesn't see it. In system profiler it sees an unknown device connected through firewire, but still doesn't mount the iPod or open in iTunes.
Is there anything else to do, or is my iPod finally dead and face the decision of spending a lot of money on repairing it or spending a lot of money on buying a new one. Any help would be appreciated!!

  • 5G iPod stuck at apple logo screen - will not finish booting, just restarts

I just got off the phone with Apple.
    Has anyone had this occur.
I had to reset my iPod a few hours ago, it never made it past the brighter apple logo. It looks like it's about to turn back on and then decides "let's try that again" and clicks back to the fainter logo screen. It's been looping like that for over two hours now. I need to let it drain now, but the apple tech didn't sound too hopeful.
just wondering if anyone else has had an iPod die this way...

  • Ipod stuck at apple logo

Hi, I turned my iTouch on and after about 5 minutes it was still at the apple logo.
I dont see anything after that it just stays on that screen also if it matters it is jailbroken.

I almost guarantee you that it is not bricked. You need to force it into recovery mode:
1 Hold sleep/wake and home at same time. It will turn off.
    2. As soon as it boots up, let go of the sleep/wake button
    3. It should be in recovery mode (the PlugTunes) screen.
    Alternate way:
    1. Hold sleep/wake until touch turns off.
    2. with it unplugged, press and hold the home button.
    3. still holding home, plug the usb cable in.
    4. it will go into recovery mode and itunes will allow you to restore.
If you do these methods, and itunes doesn't see your touch, re-install itunes and you should be in business. Jailbreaking does not "brick" your ipod. There is no such thing. I have had some scares, but there is always a way to restore. Unless you mess with the hardware, you always can restore.

  • Ipod stuck on apple logo after update

i updated my ipod touch and then it just had the usb and arrow to itunes so i plugged it in and it said i had to restore it for it to work so i did, but now it just shows a black screen and apple logo until it dies, nothing i do works, when i hold butttons down it goes black then just shows apple logo again, and when i plug into itunes it isn't recognized, ik there are other posts similar to this but none of those solutions worked.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 3rd gen iPod stuck at apple logo

    hi all,
last week i bought a 15gb 3rd gen iPod from someone.. (with all original accessories and box)
I bought it knowing the battery was shot and bought one the day after i bought the iPod. i havent recieved the battery yet but when i plugged the iPod into my Macbook, the iPod boots to apple screen but stays there..
I can feel the hard drive spinning only when i turn it on.. and after the battery turns off or after a few seconds, i can hear a high pitch whinning sound..
I also thought that even when an iPod battery is dead, it will fully boot or at least say "do not disconnect" when plugged into a computer or ac adapter...
    any help?

When you get your battery, it should come with plastic tools to open the iPod. Try disconnecting the current battery and letting the iPod sit for a few minutes. Then, connect it with no battery. Maybe having no power and connecting it will "jump start" it, assuming there is no problem with hard drive.
Note: If you have not previously opened an iPod... Start at the top edge seam; there are no clips there. You usually get a pair of plastic tools. Open a gap (into the metal half) with one tool, at the center of the top edge. Use the other tool starting at that gap and follow the seam to the top right corner, around the corner, and down the right side. Press into the seam as you go. It should pop open along the right side. Open it like a book from the right side. The left side has a delicate ribbon cable connecting the two halves of the case, so don't yank it open on the left side.
