I had this problem.  I held down the power switch to power down completely.  Takes a few seconds.  Then use the power switch to turn on.  Might take a couple goes.

  • HT1339 iPod stuck at restoring step

Hello, I keep getting the same message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." at the end of every restoring trial. Seems my iPod and iTunes are stuck at this step. and my iPod wouldn't restart nor will iTunes recognize it. Can someone help? Thanks.

From here: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
If you've restored your iPod and the message described above re-appears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. To assign a different drive letter follow the steps for changing the Drive Letter

  • ITunes/iPod stuck at "Syncing iPod Do not disconnect" using Vista

I've moved about 40GB onto my 160GB ipod classic without incident. After my latest manual transfer of mp3 files iTunes and my iPod are stuck at "Syncing iPod Do not disconnect". I have installed the recommended windows Vista patch that allegedly fixes the Vista corrupting the iPOD at eject.
I Never had a problem with my windows xp and ipod 80GB Gen 5.5.
I'm pretty disappointed with apple's engineering. I think I'll go back to my Archos 605 160GB (much more reliable!) and return the iPOD to the store.
It's taken days to move 40GB onto my ipod I really don't want to do a total wipe of the ipod using the factory setting restore. Anything else I can try?

As a follow up. I reset the ipod. I plugged the ipod classic 160GB into a computer running windows XP and got the same result: stuck at "Syncing iPod Do not disconnect" and iTunes hung. My conclusion is that the bug is in the ipod and not Vista.
I agree with the poster that concluded that Apple released this ipod too early with inadequate testing.
Anyone else notice that each generation of ipod comes packaged with less extras?!
ex. with gen 5.5 you got a nice sleeve and a hard case with belt clip, with gen 6.0 you got neither. Seems to me Apple's policy has become: "we've got loyal customers, time to screw 'em over"

  • My iPod won't sync on my newly downloaded iTunes after I rebooted my laptop because I got hacked! PLEASE HELP! I cant sync anything and it only comes up with Step 1 of 1 instead of the usual 4 steps

Hello everyone,my names Charlotte and I was wondering if someone could help me with my iPod not syncing to my iTunes properly.
Okay well basically,a while ago my laptop caught a virus and in the end I ended up having to reboot the whole thing.
(My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate)
However, because of this,it meant I had to download iTunes again, and so I did.
(I have the latest iTunes and iPod Touch version downloaded)
Then I found a way how to sync all my music from my iPod touch (not the 4th gen) to my laptop, so I did and put all my music and more (from albums I haven't downloaded yet e.t.c) onto my newly downloaded iTunes.
But anyway, back to the original topic. Because of downloading iTunes again and rebooting my laptop, my iPod Touch wont sync to my new iTunes and I don't know what I can do to fix this?
Another thing I did notice was on the 'Devices' option on the sidebar, it now says 'iPod Touch', instead of 'Charlotte's iPod'.
I'm really stuck on what to do because when my iPod does sync to my iTunes it says 'Syncing iPod Touch (Step 1 of 1)', when usually it should be of 4 steps, like backing up data and transferring purchases e.t.c.
    Then it just finishes sync..
One thing I did do was de-authorize it and re-authorize it again as I found online that it worked for some people,.... for me it didn't. To be honest I didn't expect it to work as I thought it was just for anyone trying to hack/take away your music...but it was worth a shot anyway.
    But please help!
I really want to put more songs onto my iPod
    Many Thanks for reading this,
    ~Charlotte

Update: I deleted all my songs in itunes and then put them back on, and then proceded to sync my ipod again which worked! the songs are being put on

  • Stuck in the "preparing to sync" step

While trying to sync music to my iPod Touch 4th Generation, it gets stuck in the "preparing to sync" step.  The music will show up in my library as unplayable, not fully synced files, and I can no longer add or remove files to and from my iPod properly.  Can anyne offer me any assistance?

Thanks Shootist007, by blockd files I mean files that I have changed to blocked and when I tried to move then for the first time, I had to unblock again. I am trying to backup my pictures, my songs and other files like word documents and excel tables. First I put all of them as blocked, what caused the first problems on trying to move them. Then, I've unchecked the block option and if I try to move one by one, there is no problem. The issue is to move all together, because it gets stuck in the preparing to copy files step. Anyway, if I cannot do all by once, I'll do it one by one, event though that was not suposed to happen if we are talking about technology, right? Anyway, I thank you again for trying to help me!

  • Ipod touch, first sync, stalls on step 2/7, wont go further

I just got an ipod touch, and went to "automatically add to ipod" all of the music I had on my computer.  It has been added to itunes, and it tried to sync but only the first three or so bands that I added have come over.
It gets stuck on step 2/7 and even if I restart itunes and the ipod touch it always gets stuck there.  I've left it overnight and come back to it still at that step and no other music being transferred over.
I'm not sure what to do.  I'm very new to ipods.

Was able to figure it out with LOTS of time and LOTS of trial and error.  In case anyone else has this problem here are the resources I used and this is what worked for me.
    Error codes that came up:
"The Ipod cannot be synced! The required disk cannot be found"
"iPod touch cannot be synced. The Required disk cannot be found"
    Resources I used:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1244785?start=0&tstart=0
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=363669
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2690
None of those things did anything for me (first link I only went back about three pages before I found the combination of actions that worked for me)
What worked for me- I did these things, in this order, and I'm not sure if leaving any of them out would work, but we'll see next time.
    1. reboot computer with ipod usb UNPLUGGED from computer
    2. open itunes
    3. unattach usb that controls mouse- and leave unattached the entire time you're syncing
    4. attach usb that controls ipod
It magically started syncing and only took a few minutes.  I have almost 2300 songs and it was the first sync, so it was pretty fast I'd say.
    System:
    ipod touch 4th gen
    Win Vista desktop pc
I do also have the situation that a few of my songs won't transfer from the automatically added section- they keep getting dropped into a "not added" folder inside of it.  Gonna work that out now, but it's nice to have my library imported now and know what works for me.
Before I was pretty much closing itunes in task manager, reopening it with the ipod unattached, taking the mouse out and putting it back in after attaching the ipod.  I think leaving the mouse off entirely was the key.  I'm not sure the reboot did much for it but it never hurts to reboot, especially if you're like me and rarely do so.  I do notice my itunes freezes up a lot so killing it from processes is the only way to fix it.
Hope this helps someone!  I know it was really frustrating for me!

  • I have problem with syncing in itunes and it stared since i installed new version of itunes.it stuck in backup step for houres.what shud i do?

I have problem with syncing in itunes and it stared since i installed new version of itunes.it stuck in backup step for houres.what shud i do?

So, in iTunes, when you look at the shuffle's content (in the sidebar) and click on the playlist under the shuffle, over to the right, the songs are in your desired order, correct?  Where do you look, or what do you do, that indicates the playlists are in alphabetical order?  Are you saying that when you play the songs while using the shuffle, they play in alphabetical order?
If so, when you listen to the songs on the shuffle, are you using the playlist, or are you using the All Songs list? If you are in the default All Songs list, with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order (the middle position), the songs play alphabetically, I believe.
The 3rd gen shuffle uses VoiceOver.  If you are in the All Songs list, you need to use VoiceOver to switch to the playlist (see manual linked below for details).  When you are in the playlist (with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order), then the songs should play in playlist order.
There are more details in the manual for the 3rd gen shuffle, which is online here
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_3rdGen_UG.pdf
See page 22 for the section about setting up and using VoiceOver.  The part about switching playlists starts on page 23 (Using the Playlist Menu).

  • Ipod seems to be stuck between syncing.... stuff on ipod is now labelled 'other'

Ipod seems to be stuck between syncing .... stuff on ipod is now labelled 'other' ... don't have the music on itunes so can't get back from there. Is there anyway to remedy current state without having to restore and lose everything? music, playlist menus etc come up as being empty even though there is space on the disk. Am wondering if it has been casued by plugging into itunes at work. Ipod worked fine last night but I just can't access anything today ...... have looked quickly at forums but cannot find anything which works. Have reset a couple of times with little effect. Went home and pluged into home pc just in case .... but no joy ..... have itunes set to manually manage so it doesn't synch music. Any help would be most appreiciated :-)

Plug it in to iTunes - go to the Summary tab when the iPod appears - go down to the 'Configure Accessibility' button (bottom of the page) - click it.  You may see VoiceOver checked.  Uncheck it, then click OK.
Failing that: I have a 7G.  With my version, I get the voice when I hold both volume buttons down (I think).  Maybe your buttons do the same thing and maybe they are being held down by something?  Just a guess.

my ipod touch accidentally disconnected during sync, after that it wont sync at all. although it appears to be syncing on both the computer and ipod, it rushes through "determining which tracks to sync' step and no changes are actually made.i restarted both and reset the ipod. i checked to see that the computer recognizes the ipod (yes) and tried to sync over wifi with the same result...(i am afraid to retore to factory original beacuse the problem is about transferring from th computer itunes to the ipod)

There is no good way for yur problem since iTunes sees the iPOd.  Yu can ry removing and reinstalling all the Apple software using:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
However, I suspect a restor, first try from backup, is required.
