IPod suddenly not charging in Apple dock

I have an 8G iPod Touch with a Apple dock purchased at the same time I bought the iPod. I have updated my iTunes regularly. After the last update my dock now won't charge my iPod. It syncs fine but gives me the warning message that charging is not supported on this device. It charged and synced fine for over a year. Can anyone tell me what happened and how to fix it? Thanks for the support in advance.

Case solved. Figured out the dock must be plugged directly into the USB port on the Mac instead of the USB hub that I sometimes use.

For some reason, overnight, my Apple dock no longer charges my iPod touch. I set my iPod in the dock and the yellow caution sign pops up and says that charging is not supported with this accessory. I did not update any software whatsoever on my computer or iPod, and up until this time, the dock worked just fine to charge my iPod. I tried powering down my iPod, restarting my Mac, and cleaning the connector on the dock with a q-tip dipped in alcohol. Nothing worked. The only thing I can think to do is reset my iPod. The battery is possibly unable to take as much power as a normal battery. It may need a replacement battery.

Ive dug around in both my ipod slot and the docking slot and got a tiny bit of dust out of there but that didn't make any difference. I then tried it back on the dock in my tv which worked fine, and then tried it on a friends ipod dock, where it also worked.
Also, earlier, it worked for about 10 minutes before displaying the message about my ipod not working on this accessory. Is it more likely to be a problem with the ipod dock? And that i should try and get a replacement dock?

hi anyone my ipod will not charge at all! ive tried charging it on my iHome, wall charger, and car charger. it doesnt accept any of them. Every once in a while when i pull it in, it will show the symbol with the blinking battery and the charging symbols. Can anyone help me? if not im tempted to buy another one off of amazon, would there be any other way to transfer the memorychip over so i can have my pictures, etc?

This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

Hello, My name is Perla and I am a proud customer of Apple. I bought my iPod Touch 4G 8G on March 17, 2011. I had no problems over the course of almost a year. Last week, my iPod would not charge or connect to iTunes. I took it to the Apple Store and they exchanged mine for another. Just a couple of days ago, my new iPod had been experiencing the same problem. As of now, it would not charge to my computer or any outlet for that matter or connect to iTunes. I want to take it to the Apple Store and get it checked out but I'm afraid they won't exchange it again, they'll probably charge me and I don't have the money. Any ideas or suggestions?

I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. You warranty is istll in effect. The warranty for a replacement iPod is 90 days or the remainder of the original warranty, which ever is greater.
