IPod suddenly not recognizing my 4-digit passcode

I never changed it, but a few hours after last using it, my iPod suddenly doesn't accept the passcode.  I don't want to have to delete and restore everything if that isn't necessary.
Thanks,
Eirik

If y can't unlock the screen-lock passcode then y have to restore
Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup
iOS: How to back up
Then restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • 4G iPod suddenly not recognized by Windows but firewire charges it.

All of a sudden today, my 4G iPod isn't recognized by either of my 2 computers through any firewire port. When connected, it charges and the charging icon blinks, but the iPod screen does not say "do not disconnect" like it's supposed to. It just remains in the regular menu mode (fully functional and playable through earphones). iTunes reports "No iPod Connected." My PCs do not see it as a drive, disk or an iPod. It was fine earlier today and nothing abnormal occurred to the iPod or to my computers.
One of my PCs is running Windows XP Pro and the other is running XP Media Center Edition.
    So far I have:
    -reset the iPod 10+ times
-tried the internal diagnostics (all passed)
    -putting it in "disk mode"
    -rebooted my PCs numerous times
-run iPod Updater to see if I was able to update or restore ( software just says "plug in an iPod to update it")
-tried several different ports on my PCs and several different iPod cables (with and without a dock)
-tried ending and restarting iPodService and iTunesHelper in Task Manager
-kicked myself for not extending the service plan with Apple
I don't think that there is a problem with the iPod port itself because it is able to charge through the firewire and AC adapter.
Can someone please offer a suggestion? I really don't have hundreds of dollars to pay for repair or buy a new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

OK I fixed it. I'm not sure how or why it worked but it did. Here are the steps I used if it helps anyone:
    1. Reset charged iPod while not connected to machine.
    2. Put the iPod in Disk Mode.
    3. Connected it to the USB 2 port
    4. Windows saw it but itunes said it needed to be restored and could not see any of my music.
    5. Installed Anapod
    6. Anapod saw the iPod, and corrupted music files.
    7. Using Anapod's Manager Options (right click on tray)/ ipod devices/Recover Missing Tracks, the music was quickly restored and itunes was able to see the whole library
8.Using Copypod, I transferred all the music on the ipod to my computer.
    9. Restored the ipod with the latest update utility
    10. Transferred my music back to the ipod
    I hope this helps someone.

  • TS1410 my ipod is not recognized by my computer

my ipod is not recognized by my computer?

I realize this question is six months old, but just in case this helps someone. My PC suddenly decided not to recognize my IPod. I jumped through all the hoops for 24 hours trying all the suggestions and then just sat and took inventory of everything notable that was different from the last time I had synched it (a year earlier). I'd finally freed myself of Norton and installed Avast and several sites mentioned that as a possibility but no. In the end it was the new HP Officejet Pro 8600 software. I did a custom install and opted for the USB rather than wireless hookup. First off it took my old Canon scanner hostage and choked it into retirement. Then it started fondling Photoshop and searching for images in every file it could access. But the best trick was that it will just not let you synch your IPod for love nor money. Now I am a dinosaur and still use XP but I'm pretty sure the same thing happens with Windows 7. Fortunately, the fix is easy enough ***doink***, yank the printer's USB cable out of your PC and everything is fine.
Just posted this in the hope I can save somebody else a day's worth of cursing and hair tearing...PB

  • IPod is not recognized in ITunes after upgrade to 7.3.1

Please help. I upgraded ITunes to the 7.3.1 version and now my IPod is not recognized in my ITunes. The USB port is working since my IPod recharged when I plugged it into the computer. I uninstalled & then reinstalled ITunes, but, my IPod is still not recognized by ITunes or my computer. I cannot find it listed in "my computer" files.
Any suggestions as to what happened? Thanks.

Your post solved the same problem for me. Thank you so much! And thanks to JaketheSnake for starting this thread. iTunes used to start up automatically whenever I connected my iPod Touch, but a couple of months ago it quit doing that. I didn't think much of it as I just clicked on iTunes in the dock and opened it and went on my merry way. I just figured something in the last iTunes update changed it's behavior. But lately I noticed that my iPod Touch would be in the source list while it was syncing and then it would sometimes just disappear. I was too lazy to start a thread, I guess, because I just thought someone would tell me to "restore" my iPT and I had gotten used to my little "work arounds". But now it's fixed, thanks to both of you.

  • My ipod is not recognized by itunes. Menus missing in itunes.

After I updated my ipod and my itunes, now the ipod is not recognized in itunes.  I went through all the recommended steps; starting and stopping various programs on my control panel, turning ipod on and off, checking cables - everything short of standing on my head.  In the process of all that,  I realized that the menu/task bar on the upper left side of the itunes page was gone. It wasn't there when I started this odyssey and it still isn't there..  I uninstalled and installed itunes again. I have Windows 8. Still no menu and still not recognizing the ipod. My ipod is 32gb touch screen.  Probably 3 years old or so. Was working fine before the updates......
    Thanks!!!

    Hi All,
I tried to download the update and iTunes doesn't work at all! It won't even open. I have tried all of the steps above but still no joy.
Any help would be much appreciated as I have been on this for one week already.
Close to my wits end and moving back to a Sony and trying Android for the very first time.
    Thanks in advance.

  • My ipod is not recognized by my itunes and tells me to uninstall itunes and reinstall. will this erase all of my music?

my ipod is not recognized by my itunes and tells me to uninstall itunes and reinstall it.  will this erase all of my music?

    Hi braddyloopy,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes,  your music files should not be erased or affected in any way. It is always a good idea to back up your data before making any changes to your computer, though.
If you'd like to locate your music, this article explains how to find the files:
Where are my iTunes files located?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1391
When you reinstall iTunes, I'd recommend using the method in this article to make sure it's reinstalled completely:

    Thanks!!

    Hello Amber,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes.  I found a couple of articles that might help with this.
If you don't see your iPod in the My Computer or Computer section of Windows, follow the steps in this article:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
If Windows recognizes your iPod but iTunes does not, follow the steps in this article:

  • IPod classic not recognized by mac or itunes.... but otherwise works fine.

I'm wondering if there is any way I can save my music. I had to reformat my macbook due to corruption of whole disk encryption. My only copy of my music library was on the iPod itself. I was able to restore about 2/3 of my collection from the iPod to the mac. However, at one point the computer became nonresponsive while the iPod was mounted. Had to force a reboot. The iPod was not recognized after that. I connect it to my mac, it says "connected", but iTunes doesnt recognize this, and it doesnt appear on the desktop.
It works fine. All the music and movies, etc., are there, as well as other data I stored on it (which I also want to get back) (judging from free space indicator), but I can't mount it.
    I've done everything traditionally recommended.
    -Five Rs, numerous times
-Tried with different macs, 10.5.8, 10.6.1, different cables
    -Started iPod in disk mode
-Ran all the diagnostics, they're all fine
    -Played with iTunes helper
    -Reinstalled iTunes
-Tried on completely different macintosh, same problem
For some reason this thing really doesnt want to mount, but when I use the iPod it's clear all the data is right there on it.
Will I have to bust open the iPod and take out the hard drive, and mount it in another enclosure to get my data back? That's the only thing I can think of at this point. Any other ideas?
    Thanks-
