After using my iPod classic in my infinity G35 a for the last few weeks, I took it out of the car and it no longer works.  Just a white screen with the web address for Apple iPod support.  Worked fine when hooked up to iPod jack in car.  But won't work anywhere now.  I tried re-setting but has not worked.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

Do you mean you are unable to install or sync Apps to your iPod?  Are you using at least iOS version 2.0 or later?
If you have a 1G iPod Touch, you can update to 3.1.  Use this article to purchase the update.

In most cases, the sad iPod icon indicates a hardware issue. If you are able to force iPod into Disk Mode, then it may not be a hardware issue, and you should try to restore your iPod with the latest software.

  • Does iPod support mp3PRO files?

I am curious whether iPod supports mp3PRO files in the sense whether it decodes and plays mp3PRO files correctly?
Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop   Windows XP Pro   1.6 GHz, 1GB RAM, iPod Video (30GB) v1.1.1

mp3 and mp3PRO both have same extension .mp3. However
    (1) mp3PRO uses different compression technique with more efficient file size (25% less).
    (2) higher frequency response of such files are better, and
    (3) mp3PRO encoder/decoder are to be licensed from Fraunhaufer Institute, whereas that for mp3 are free
mp3PRO encodes higher frequency sounds in a separate track within the file. Even though all mp3 players would play mp3PRO files, the higher frequency sounds of the track for such players would be inferior without the mp3PRO support. I know some player don't support mp3PRO primarily because of the licensing requirement. However, most profession grade music editing software support mp3PRO because of the reasons listed above.
All my files are in mp3PRO - I convert them from mp3 to mp3PRO as the downloaded files are invariably in mp3 format. I have not yet sat down to analyze mp3 vs mp3PRO file performance in iPod, which could be a separate project by itself. I thought someone more tech/music savvy would know the answer to iPod's support of Pro format.

  • Whenever i try to switch on my iPod it just gives me a message to go to ipod support and nothing else

whenever i try to switch on my iPod it just gives me a message to go to ipod support and nothing else

First, try doing a reset (to restart the iPod)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
If that just goes back to the error message, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
If that works, connect it to the Mac and run iTunes.  iTunes may say something about "recovery" and prompt you to do a Restore on the iPod.  That could mean the iPod's storage has some type of data corruption, and needs to be erased, and its software reinstalled.
Unfortunately, (if the iPod does not go into Disk Mode) the most likely cause for this on a "classic" iPod that uses a hard drive for storage, is a faulty hard drive.

  • Annoyed at Apple's lack of iPod support

Hi guys, expecting this topic to be deleted....
I bought a first-gen iMac (the lamp design), top model when it was first released in the UK, ever since that I've been an Apple devotee. However, over the past few years I've gone through 6 iPods (2 Minis, 2 Shuffles, 1 3rd gen 1 nano), all of them having died from battery problems or from other issues outside of the warranty. I consider this to be hugely bad-practice, for the amount I've spent on faulty products (they've lasted a tiny amount of time), I could have pretty much bought the entire range of iPods available now.
When I phoned Apple Support to ask if they'd refund the amount i paid for my Nano (which has also broken now), or waive the cost of repair I was transferred and then cut off, pretty much represents my continued dealings with Apple I guess.... I've seen the announcements for the new Apple products and was tempted by a 160GB Classic but after the grief and problems I've had over the past few years with iPod products I'm staying well away, the battery, the product itself and the dire customer service just aren't worth bothering with. Am I alone with all these problems or has anyone else had similar issues with iPods and Apple's service here in the UK?

    You are alone.

  • IPod support for folders?

Over the weekend, I updated my 40G iPod photo to version 1.2 (having had iTunes updated to 5.0.1.4 for a while). I also noticed that iTunes had added a folders feature, which I'd really been hoping to see implemented. Most of the music I have is classical, and I'm finally able to organize the music exactly the way I like (with a folder for each composer, containing playlists for each individual composition). However, after spending quite a while getting everything squared away in iTunes and synching my iPod, I discover that the iPod doesn't appear to support folders at all. Additionally, any playlists that were inside folders were ignored in the synch as well, leaving my with a "playlists" directory containing all 5000+ tracks listed individually, totally without the hierarchy I'd set up in iTunes.
Of course, I can still use the other directories, but does anyone know if I'm either missing something here, or if this discrepency between iPod and iTunes functionality might be adressed at some point?
Anyhow, hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance for any help.

I did the same thing last night. I used the folders to create a quite ingenious organizational system and the folders dont appear on the ipod like they do on itunes. It was very frusterating after all the time i spent.
Is there an option than can toggle them on somewhere? What can we do?

  • ENOUGH  iPod Support Run Around

Why should I have to sift through pages on pages of support material trying to find something that even remotely describes my problem to get something that I paid 400 bucks to work ? I still think 400 bucks is a nice chunk of change. And, I am tired of following the "5" steps to fix my iPod. I've reloaded, rebooted, and reset everything 3 times guys. There has to be a better way to do this. I even have to waste my sleep time signing up for this discussion group JUST TO ASK A QUESTION!!! First thing on top of any of the numerous support pages should be, "HAVE A QUESTION, CLICK HERE TO CONTACT SOMEONE". Convoluted run around. Bad support. I will have to call you tomorrow -- unless I throw this thing out the window first.

If you post in one of the iPod Forums, I'm sure there are many iPod users that will try to help you.

  • Car Stereo Help/iPod support

I'm looking for a new car stereo that can play music off of my iPhone. Most models I've seen say they support wma/mp3/aac, but some CDs I've ripped are in m4a. After looking around on the internet for a while, I get the impression that m4a files are converted to aac and are playable, but can't find anything that says that definitively.
Is this true, and if not, do you know of a stereo model that does play m4as?

Hello, and welcome to the forums.
any model that states it is compatible with iPod will play the music in the music library of the iPod without any converting. Unfortunately it wont play MP4s from a CD data disk but it will read them if they are in the ipod itself.

If this is the main feature you are looking for Might we suggest looking at the DSX-S200X with an integrated tune tray to tuck the ipod or iphone behind the faceplate, eliminating unsightly and distracting wires.

  • IPod support on Linux?

I'm trying to pry Bill Gates monopolistic fingers from my home and rid myself of my dependencies on Windows. I'm moved most of my work to Linux, but haven't found a way to manage my iPod on that system yet.
Is there a supported (or unsupported) solution for the iPod Shuffle for Linux?
x86   Other OS   Linux Fedora Core

Thanks, the reference you provided helped. It turns out I hadn't done the obvious thing - plug my i-pod into my linux usb port and see what happens. When I did, a Nautilus browser popped up and gave me direct access to the music folders.
Not as fancy as i-tunes, but effective for me.
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • Ipod support question

    Hi everybody,
2Days ago I did a support request trough site and now I have a box, in whitch I need to place my broken Ipod.
Now the "problem" is that the thing got back working an our after I placed the support request. I got the exclametion mark - map icon and the reset didn't work, also the repair via the apple tool on the computer didn't work.
But it did work to put my ipod into the disk mode (by pressing 2 buttons) and then connect it and windows asked to format it. Off course I couldn't refuse, and after the format, the repair via the ipod tool worked.
Anyway, when I recieved the box to resend my ipod in, I thought okay, let's call apple and explain my weird case but I can't find a proper telephone number (for Belgium).
So what should I do now? How do I contact apple to cancel the support request? Is there a phone number (in Belgium) I can call? And will I recieve a bill in my mailbox after 10 days (it says after 10 days they bill the parts they sent but they didn't send anything) ?
    Thanks for help!
    Hans

    Hello there,
Apple will only send you a new Pod when they have received your old Pod, so you shouldn't need to worry about being billed!
    Apple Support, Belgium:
    (32) 070 700 772
    www.apple.com/benl/support
from what I can deduce from a Google Search! Wouldn't hurt to give them a call so they can cancel the service request...
    Kind regards,
    Gopha.
