IPod switches itself on while on Hold

My iPod switches itself on while the Hold button is on. It always switches on to the same album - Damien Rice - O. This obviously reduces battery life. Have not worked out yet whether it switches itself offf at the end of the last song on the album.
Any clues?

The alarm is set to "on". Check also any calendar

Check both these things even if you are sure you
never set any.
Thanks - problem solved.

  • MBP simply switches itself off while on battery

Hope to get some idea of what's going... basically yesterday while I was using my MBP on battery alone, the computer simply switches itself off out of the blue. So I check the temperature and everything seems fine. I was using it with video card in the "better battery life" mode, so I didn't think it was overheating. So I switched it on again. After starting, after a few minutes it went off again. I gave up and didn't switch on again until connected to the mains, and it is on until now without any problems.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas of what's going on?
    Thanks

I have experienced this before. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but this is a sign that the battery is dying. You may well find that the time before this happens reduces until eventually you will get a few minutes at best.
You do not say how old the MBP is or if this is the original battery. My old one (recently replaced) went through the first battery in just over a year; and then a year later the second went too. I changed how I used the third one. I had relied on mains power when I could before. With the last one I used battery whenever I could and charged when necessary.
Make sure the battery is calibrated but I am not sure that is going to help.

  • IPod switches itself off?

I've had my 20GB iPod for about 10 months now, but recently whenever I use the click wheel, to scroll through songs or anything my iPod seems to switch off, and shows the apple logo for about 30 seconds, before it turns back on but the battery has drained about 50% and the date/time is reset back to 1st Jan 00. After about another 30 seconds the battery goes back up again, but whenever I try to play a song it just cuts out again.
When it's freshly charged it seems to work OK for about an hour, then the problems start happening and it becomes un-usable. Anyone know what's happening?

I am having a very similar problem with my 3rd generation, 15-gig iPod. I've had it for about 14 months and it's worked fine up until the last month or so. Then I started having a problem - whenever I'd select a song (any song), it would shut itself off and not even re-start. When I manually restarted it, it was completely drained of battery power, and I had the same problem. Updating iTunes software seemed to solve it temporarily, but then it started happening again.
Is this a battery issue or a hard drive issue? I know there have been battery problems with the 3rd-gen iPods, but I haven't started having this problem until, conveniently, after the warranty expired.

  • Problems with the ipod switching itself off

It's happened a few times now, and my ipod will have battery when it happens. I'll put it on standby as such, and then it'll not switch back on or restart, I normally have to plug it into mains for it to turn back on. Then I'll upload my inbox, and it'll have resynced my email addresses so it'll set all my emails as being unread. However, this time it won't refresh my email address and won't upload my emails! I don't know why it's repeatedly doing this.
    Help?

Omg, I've put over 2 hours of work in it to reinstall other versions of itunes, ios n such to then find out that they DID NOT test my ipod and sennheiser earbuds that I gave in along with my busted itouch.... They told me they work fine... Now I took my girlfriends earbuds cause nothing worked, turned out they are both broken and now I need to go back to the store for new ones, dont think that the previous itouch wasnt busted then after all cause it was, tried with 10 different sets of earbuds
anyway Im a happy man again with a decent itouch and good earbuds, that I can lend from me girlfriend...
    Thanks for the help anyway

  • IPod turns itself off in dock

I have a new iPod classic 160gb. From time to time, the iPod turns itself off while playing, but only while in a speaker dock. This has happened in two different docks, including the Bose SoundDock and the Griffin Journi. Somewhere midway through a song, the music stops, the backlight comes on, it goes into charging mode. If I hit play, it continues as if nothing has happened.
I don't have a problem listening through headphones, anyone else see this?

    Add me to this list.
Along with the frustrating, well known and widely shared iTunes freezing issues, my (second, first one returned)silver 160GB classic also experiences this 'shutoff' in my iHome dock. I haven't had this issue with my DLO Homedock deluxe, but when in my iHome speaker dock playback starts fine but then just shuts off midway through a song when it feels like it, then like was said, goes to the charging battery screen. So, this new iPod has made iTunes, old video docks and now even my iHome dock worthless. I've really begun to question the intellegence of this 'upgrade'.

  • Ipod puts itself on hold, no response than!

Hi! I have used my ipod shuffle 4th gen for about 5 months and it worked perfectly, but now when I turn it on, it puts itself on hold after about 5 seconds and does not respond to any buttons anymore, except turn off/on. can you please help me

What do you mean by the iPod puts itself on hold?  Does it stop playing music?  Have you double checked to make sure the headphones are plugged all the way in, meaning the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Shuffle?
Perhaps a reset would your next step.

  • My iPod classic keeps jumping to the next track and switching itself off.

My iPod classic keeps jumping to the next track and switching itself off?

It happens randomly. I can be listening to a song, it finishes and then theres no sound. The track doesn't actually start at all. When i say skips i dont mean is in the middle of the song and jumps. I mean the ipod switches to the next track.
Format - All my songs have been ripped from CD's or downloaded from I-Tunes. I cant find the file type, sorry.
I had a look on the link but the symptoms dont link to mine. It happens randomly, not when im cycling or moving the divece nescessarily.
    Thanks

  • My ipod 7th generation switches itself on

My ipod 7th generation switches itself on, long after i've switched it off properly and is draining the battery.  Anyone else had this problem or is a fault?

The same thing is happening to mine!  Very frustrating!  It'll just stop for no reason and I've continued on my run without knowing it's stopped.  Could there be a 'one touch' button that i don't know I'm pressing when I check my ipod on my arm or is it just the electronic?!  This need to stop otherwise I can't trust it anymore...

  • I have an old mini Ipod which has  not been used for years.  Two questions. Why does my machine keeps switching itself on?  Second question:  via my computer I downloaded a classical CD. I cannot find it on my Ipod.  When I tried to down load it a second

I have an old miniIpod which works OK.  But it frequently switches itself on.  I down loaded a classical CD via  my computer and cannot find it on my Ipod despite extensive searching.  When I tried to download a second time I was told that it had already downloaded.  mike

    Hi Spenny,
Do you have any Apps that are not working properly or Apps that appear open from the Dock and shows the menu bar but no App window?
Have you looked here (System Profiler): Go to Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info > Contents > Hardware > Diagnostics... you can see what kind of Power up info is contained...
If it were me, I would go ahead and try resetting the SMC and pay careful attention to the instructions. If this does not help, I believe your machine is not actually turning off. So, if were me, I would force a shut down by holding the POWER BUTTON till machine turns off, this may take a few seconds but it will shut down and then go through resetting the SMC again....
Let us know, good luck, Rick

  • Classic SKIPS TRACK while on HOLD sometimes.

I ordered my iPod Classic the other week and it arrived Monday, and I started using it just about 48 hours ago. I usually put it on shuffle and keep it on hold, and for the most part, it runs smoothly. After every 30 or 40 songs, however, the iPod will skip to the next track at any moment in the song. At first I thought I might have just accidentally clicked the skip button while hold was off, but much to my dismay, that theory has been proven wrong a good 6 times since. I can confirm that the iPod skips track while on hold in my pocket, me minding my own business.
I restored the factory settings this morning, thinking perhaps something went wrong when I first started up my iPod, but it has happened once since then.
I was wondering if this is a common problem perhaps with the current firmware or a setting out of place, or if it's a hardware problem that warrants a return to the good ol' factory. Thanks ahead of time, I'll check back and elaborate on the problem if need be.

I am having similar problem, but not exactly same. I haven't noticed the "hold" switch having any effect either way. See details below (first line is iLounge post title):
iPod Classic (7g) won't play MPEG4 audio files; keeps skipping to next track
Brand-new ipod will not play MPEG4 audio-only (not video) files that have file extension .mp4 (they still don't play if switched to .m4a extension). Having no problems playing other files .mp3, .m4a. The "Summary" tab on the file info shows file type as "MPEG-4 video file". Is this the problem, or do all mp4 tracks default to that file type?
When i try to play any album of .mp4 tracks, the iPod just skips from the track 1 to track 2, then to the 3d, and so on until it runs out of tracks -- after playing maybe a split second, maybe nothing of each track. This happens with various albums, and only with .mp4 files, no others.
All these tracks do play flawlessly in iTunes as audio tracks, and in Quicktime no video shows up; and they will play off the iPod, when the iPod is playing through iTunes. But not when iPod is playing alone.
I have restored iPod & installed the software update. I can get tracks to play if i use "convert to AAC option", but for various reasons this not desirable solution.
Any ideas on how to get these .mp4 tracks to play on the iPod? Anyone else having this problem ? I googled & didn't see any reference to this problem with MPEG4 audio, only so problems with video files.

  • Why did my iPod  reset itself when I was trying to watch a video?

    Hi Everyone,
I was watching a video on my ipod and I got halfway through the video and the Ipod reset itself. My iPod is okay after it reset itself. I was wondering has this happened to anyone else and what can I do to fix it?
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    lizabler

    Hey lizabler!
I personally haven't experiened this specific thing myself, by I have certainly read issues like your quite a few times on the Discussions.
When your iPod resets itself in this kind of case, this happens usually because, while you're playing a video on your iPod, it's not being able to continuouly load and play that video fast enough to actually play the video at a normal speed.
This can be caused by the iPod's battery.
How charged/discharged was your iPod around the time when your iPod reset itself? Try letting your iPod's battery fully die, then let it recharge for a full 3 hours, and see if this ever happens again.
Also, if this ever happens again, have you tried resetting your iPod several times? (holding the "Menu" and middle buttons together for 10 seconds)
Sometimes your iPod resetting itself can also be caused by your iPod's memory being highly used. For example, if you have a 60 GB iPod, and you've used up 54 GB of it already, this can sometimes somehow bog up the iPod, causing it to act strangely.
If this iPod-resetting-itself behavior recurrs, and resetting the iPod several times doesn't help, try restoring your iPod to factory settings -> How to restore your iPod
I hope that info helps you.
