IPod sync is complete - then eject, then iTunes hangs

When I get the message "iPod sync is complete", I wait a few seconds, then click EJECT the iPod...
THEN iTunes hangs.
If I wait ONE MINUTE after "iPod sync is complete", then iTunes does not hang.
Does this sound right?
After that, the iPod won't dismount.
If I force-quit iTunes, it will quit, and on restart, it will say "Syncing iPod" for a while then say "iPod sync is complete", but then the iPod WON'T dismount.
What a bag of nails.

You did not answer my previous question about using the Restore button... That might help, if you did not try that yet.
The latest iTunes is 8.0.1 (11), so you could try upgrading. If there was a bug, it might fix.
If you are using the +enable disk use+ setting (the iPod appears on Desktop as a drive), try setting that OFF, click the Apply button. Then set it ON again, and apply.
Also, try ejecting the iPod by dragging the icon on the Desktop to the Trash (or using right-click/Eject) instead of using the little button in iTunes. If you do it that way, does ejecting cause the crash you describe.

  • IPod syncs 18 gb of songs then stops

I've been having some trouble with my fourth gen. ipod, I've restored it a couple times but I'm realizing that it will only sync up to 18 gb of music and then it freezes both the ipod and itunes. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong with it?

I recently had my 20G 3rd Generation replaced with a refurbished model through Best Buys service exchange program.
When I sync the new ipod to Itunes, it only transfers around 9 gb of songs (I only have 12 gb of music), then itunes just freezes.
After I disconnect the ipod, I see that only 500 mb of songs actually made it into the Ipod. What happen to the other 8.5 gb of songs that was suppose to be transfered?
After syncing the ipod for the second, third, and fourth time, only 500 mb is stored shown in the ipod, even though 6-8 gb of music was transfered before locking up.
#1. Why is itunes freezing up before completely transfering all 12 kb of songs?
#2. Where did the initial 8.5 gb go that supposedly transfered over to the Ipod before itunes locked up?

  • IPod sync never completes, if I cancel the sync a large portion of my music disappears

Hi, hopefully someone here can help!
I have recently had an issue with my iPod touch and iTunes 12.0.1.26. It has been a bit of a pain to sync ever since that update that screwed up other people's iThings but I hadn't had a problem in a few months. Now whenever I try to sync it will take a long time and never complete, always getting hung up on the last step before anything is transferred. If I unplug or cancel I get an error box that says the iPod couldn't be recognised and the sync failed to start even though it would get through to that last bit after backing itself up. After each failed attempt the Other data section becomes bigger until I get another error saying that there is not enough space on my iPod for everything, sometimes it is over capacity by 10GB. Every time this happens I end up with less and less music on my iPod until I get incomplete playlists and entire albums wiped off. After this the only solution seems to be a factory reset and restore from backup, which I have done twice already this week.
My phone will sync with no issues so I am not sure if it is a software or hardware problem. Its winding me up, anyone have any ideas? I have already removed and reinstalled iTunes and have done a reset on the iPod.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another USB port
    - Try another cable
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • IPod classic quits charging after ejecting from iTunes

Running Windows 8.1, more of a recent problem I noticed.  I'm guessing the solution has to do with going into device manager, but not sure what the fix is.  Any help??  Thank you for your time.

It turns out I am having the same problem, and I am also using Windows 8.1. I'm pretty sure that I haven't plugged in my iPod since the update. At first my laptop wasn't recognizing that my iPod was plugged in at all, and after I uninstalled the driver then reinstalled it, it started working again. My best idea for a solution right now is to put the iPod into Disk Mode, because it seems to be charging that way. But maybe Apple could check on a driver update, or what ever it is that is causing the problem.

  • ITunes wifi sync 'looking for iPhone' then ejects phone

    Hi,
I have sought an answer to this for a long while with no success. So I have joined ASC to see if any of you folks may help
    My Hardware:
    Apple iPhone 4s
    MacBook Pro (2009)
    TP-Link Router (TD-W8961ND)
    My Problem:
iPhone connects to mac over wifi and shows up in itunes.
When I initiate a sync itunes pauses and states 'looking for iPhone'
The iPhone is then ejected from itunes, without syncing (and no longer shows until I restart itunes)
    Further info:
I believe this is a router issue as wifi sync works flawlessly over other networks I have used.
I have enabled uPnP (and have tried disabling it and resetting the router etc).
I DO NOT believe this is an issue with itunes, iphone or Mac as I can sync over other peoples networks
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello there tastesalittlestrangetome.
Seems like you've done some excellent troubleshooting already. This Knowledge Base article provides some extensive/thorough steps to review and follow:
iTunes 10.5 and later: Troubleshooting iTunes Wi-Fi Syncing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4062
But as you've indicated before, the article also mentions the potential of what you've already determined. It does work on other networks:
Test your device on a different network. If the device works on another network, the issue most likely exists with your router or network configuration. Contact your router manufacturer or Internet service provider for additional troubleshooting.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Long time Sycing my Ipod after Itunes states the Sync is complete

    20 March 2007
    Apple:
I like to update / sync my ipod before I leave for work. I do not have a lot of time to wait. Frequently, Itunes will tell me the "Sync is Complete", but when I press the ^, disconnect ipod button, I get a message simular to:
Can not disconnect ipod. Application in use.
The only application that I can see are the Finder, the new feature that does Widgets and Itunes. How can it be using another application?
I have to wait and wait, continually pressing the disconnect - ^ button for many, many minutes. The delay frustrates me and make me late for work.
What can I do and can you do something to correct the misleading "IPOD SYNC IS COMPLETE" message on itues.
Thank your for your help with this.

    Thank you for replying
I keep Norton Utilities running constantly.
Usually, the only applications I see running in the dock are the Widget application and the Finder (and Itunes, of course).
This morning, it must have taken 20 minutes from when Itunes told me the Sync was completed. I acutally turned off Itunes and shut down my computer. I restarted the computer and re-synced the ipod on itunes.
    I don't have 20 minutes to waste!
Did I answer your question adequately?

  • IPOD SYNCING ISSUE!!

    pls help!!!
my ipod/itune connection was perfectly fine--until i put a movie on!! i put the movie into itunes, synced the nano n itunes and the movie workd perfectly fine on my nano.(the songs were removed from the nano since the movie needed alot of space) i now removed the movie from my itunes n thot by syncing the ipod with itunes, the songs would come back and the movie be gone from the nano.. WELLLLL the movie is off, but the songs wont come back onto my nano!!! i keep tryin to sync it but itunes says "Ipod sync is complete". THERES NOTHING ON MY NANO! i reinstalled evrything, reset the nano..reboot reboot reboot! PLEASE HELP! =(

Actually, if iTunes thinks your iPod is connected to a different library, and you tell it to sync automatically with the current iTunes library, iTunes will erase all the songs on your iPod, and then re-load them all.
It is possible that something happened on your iTunes that caused it to re-generate the library. So while it's the same computer, and same user account, the library may not have the same identifier it used to.
I'd recommend just letting iTunes have its way and reload everything. Make sure there isn't any music on you iPod that isn't in iTunes first. They have it do that big sync right before you go to bed. When you get up in the morning, it will be done and you'll have your iPod back.

  • Launch of iTunes = hangs on "analyzing gapless playback"

anybody know how to resolve this ? Geez, I dont even need whatever iTunes is trying to do ... why does this come on automagically ?
    TIA

I'm not sure that was the problem. I have the same 20GB 4g colour ipod, and have also updated to ITunes 7. I connect the ipod, sync some tunes and it then starts "Determining Gapless Playback Information" (which I don't want it to do since evidently my 4G can't handle gapless). Gets so far then freezes, and the only way to unfreeze is to disconnect the Ipod. I also have an external HD with my Itunes library on it (Iomega Mininmax 250GB connected via USB2). Tempted to roll back to IT6? Any other suggestions?

  • ITunes Hangs at Startup & when Idle. Can anyone relate?

I am using iTunes 7.4.2 for Mac. For this entire year — ever since I replaced my dead Jaguar drive and moved my library to a clean install of OS 10.3.9 on a new hard drive, iTunes just won't function properly. All those updates that have been loaded via Software Update have done nothing to fix the issue. Neither has installing a clean copy of the latest QuickTime. The scenario is always the same: I click the icon in the doc, iTunes begins loading the library. It completes the library as per the status bar, and then NOTHING. No application window pops up — just a spinning beach ball and the iTunes application title in the menu bar.
Because of this problem, my only way of using iTunes is to reboot my machine and IMMEDIATELY click the iTunes icon in the doc before I touch anything else. If I use any other app before I launch iTunes, iTunes will not complete startup.
Once iTunes hangs, the computer will not even reboot unless I force-quit the stalled iTunes app, which is "not responding."
Oh, and even when I do get the iTunes app to come up correctly, if I let it go idle or switch to another app for more than, say, five minutes or so, upon return to my desk or upon switching back from whatever application I have subsequently loaded, I am guaranteed to find iTunes frozen with nothing but a spinning beach ball. The library is still visible in the application window, but there is no means to access it — without force-quitting and rebooting my Mac AGAIN.
Basically, to use iTunes at all, I have to reboot my machine, launch it right away, finish what I am doing in iTunes and then close it down immediately so that it will not have the opportunity to hang in the background.
I do not receive any error message or dialog by which to even Google the problem. Meanwhile, even checking the Consule presents a problem because the last iTunes crash entry is dated back in March '07! Is it possible that the OS doesn't even realize the application is crashing — or is there another place I should be looking for clues?
The one iTunes crash log entry I have says that thread 9 has crashed. At the top, it also reads:
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x096b2000
So far I've verified/repaired disk permissions many, many times (from the boot CD). I also attempted to download from Apple a fresh copy of the iTunes installer (but it wouldn't launch due to an error).
I've tried searching the Web, meanwhile, and I have yet to come cross anything related to what I'm experiencing. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot it? I hail from the Mac classic days — all the way back to the Apple IIe — and don't have firm grasp of UNIX troubleshooting methods. For this reason, any help or tips would be MUCH appreciated.
    Thanks, all!

It turns out I might have a solution for this problem. I haven't had enough time to determine whether what I am about to describe solved the second half of the problem I reported wherein iTunes, if it sits too long in the background or idle, will crash. But it HAS solved the issue wherein I am forced to reboot the computer in order to get the iTunes application window to launch after the "loading library" status bar completes.
I did a lot of things over the past few months to troubleshoot: repairing permissions, sifting through crash log files, deleting iTunes preferences, downloading and running the shareware OS X maintenance program called Cocktail, reinstalling QuickTime, etc. But what turned out to be the fix was to turn off "search for shared libraries" in the "Sharing" panel of iTunes preferences. Apparently what was happening after my personal iTunes library loaded was that iTunes began a "silent search" for other iTunes libraries on the network, and when it couldn't find them the application eventually quit responding (with nothing but the dreaded spinning beach ball).
For reasons that only Apple's software developers know for sure, iTunes does not, apparently, limit the amount of time that the iTunes application is provided to hunt for non-local iTunes libraries. Nor did Apple developers, apparently, think to provide an on-screen dialog to offer the option to cancel the program's search for shared iTunes libraries. So essentially iTunes provides no feedback as to what the spinning beach ball represents — a nonstop search for other shared libraries on the network.
I hope what worked for me works for you and anyone else who, like me, has experienced this issue and are frustrated by all the searches on the Internet that turn up nothing. Best of luck!

  • ITunes hangs when phone plugged in

When I try and sync my iPhone to my MacBook, iTunes hangs forcing me to Force Quit the application. I did have an error message about Sync Manager, but found nothing usable about that topic and also an unknown iTunes error 0xe800005e, but again nothing about this topic either.
    Can anyone help.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try here. iPhone Basic Troubleshooting
    Try a different USB port.
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.PreferenceSync.plist
~/Library/Preferences. Move that file to the Trash.
Make sure you have the lastest version of iTunes. Launch iTunes without the iPhone connected to your Mac. From the Menu Bar, click iTunes/About iTunes. The most recent version is 9.0.1.
If you need to update your iTunes software, from the Menu Bar click iTunes/Check for Updates.
    Repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
    And try Restarting your iPhone.
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments. Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • Ipod 3rd Gen begins to sync then ejects

My 3rd Gen has worked perfectly until today.  I plugged it in, it begins to sync and appears in iTunes and then says on the iPod that it is ejecting and won't sync.  It still appears in iTunes, but won't allow changes and when I try to sync it says it cannot because the disk is not available.  Windows 7 iTunes 12.1 (latest version)

Adding to this issue.  I am able to sync my iPhone 6 and an iPhone 4S to this computer.  I use the same cord for the iPhone 4S and the iPod Nano.  Phone will sync fine, Nano will not.  I have tried syncing the Nano using every other USB port on this computer and no luck.  The same thing happens with the Nano when I try to sync it on my other two computers.  I have tried doing a soft reset on the Nano, no luck.  The problem is also happening now with another Nano 5th gen and a shuffle.  I can't believe there is not more support out there for this issue.  Am I really the only one who is having these problems? I have even gone so far as to re-install iTunes, turn off computer and unplug power supply to clear all cache's.  I'm out of ideas.  Someone please help...

    Hello,
I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
Restart the Computer. This sometimes happens to me when I keep my Windows 7 on Sleep, and I try to sync my Ipod
Make sure you have the latest version of Itunes
    Hope that helps!
If none of the above solutions work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution to your problem (This might even help others with the same problem!)
    Cheers!
