IPod synced with other library - won't sync, unless I erase iPod

I recently switched jobs and copied my iTunes on my old Macbook to my iPod. I know have a new job and want to sync my iPod with my new MacBook Pro. But it won't let me, as an error pops up saying that the iPod is currently synced with another library.
Any help? I have about 1500+ songs on the iPod. All are from my CD collection that I spent days putting on there.

My itunes library has a lot of music from my iPad. I want to move that music to my iPhone by managing my music "manually", but it says ""The iPhone is Synced with another library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"
I read that I have to back it up, then go ahead and erase the phone, then you can add the music from the library to your phone. Is this true? Will it work?
I have backed up the phone to iCloud, but I'm worried still. How can I be SURE that I'll get everything back when I restore the phone after erasing it?
    Thanks!

I'm afraid the LU suffix is a new one on me.
As long as you have all of the content in your library then that remove and sync warning shouldn't cause any loss of data, but it shouldn't be happening every time. It may pay to take the following steps to reset the connection between the two,
    Backup device.
    Restore as a new device.
    Restore the backup made earlier.
Again, this assumes all content on the device is in your library. If that isn't the case see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device first.

  • Itunes says ipad sync with other library but i downladed everything directly from the ipad.

hello,  I downloaded all apps directly throught the ipad as I wasn't sure how itunes worked (i tried but couldn't). Now I'm trying to sync it and it say it is allready sync with another library and that I will loose all apps. I have all passwords but don't really now where to use them. And I dont really wat to pay all the apps again. What can I do?
    Thanks

Is your computer authorized with your iTunes account with iTunes?
If so, with your iPad connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad.
Now you should be able to select Sync Apps under the Apps tab making sure all apps below are selected before syncing.
You can re-download purchased apps without having to purchase the apps again.

  • Won't sync unless I erase my iPod

When I connect this pops up,
"The iPod, "Lydia's iPod" is synced with another iTunes Library. Do you want to erase your iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
I believe this is because we recently had a hard drive failure, and I had to re-download iTunes onto our fixed computer... I DON'T want to erase and start from scratch! Is there a way to transfer all my music onto the new iTunes library?

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Have used 1 computer to sync my iphone 5 but today I get message about itunes erasing everything because I am synced with other library. what's up with that?

My Toshiba Satellite is all I have ever used to sync my iPhone 5. I don't know what is going on today but iTunes seems to think I am "synced" with another computer. I have a couple of hours of voice memos that I would hate to lose but iTunes asks if I want to "erase and sync with this Itunes library". If it weren't for the voice memos I'd do it since all the other data is stored in itunes. What can I do? I've restarted both devices thinking it might help with no luck. Is there a way to remove the memos without itunes. The smallest memo is about 45 min long on up  to 2 hrs +.

I'm guessing this is a problem unique to me as there have been no replies at all...  Thanks a bunch folks

  • Import files from shuffle that was previously synced with other library?

My shuffle was synced with laptop#1. Unfortunately, laptop#1's system became corrupted and the hard disk had to be reformatted. In the meanwhile, I would like transfer the files from my shuffle to laptop#2.
Is it possible to retrieve files bi-directionally from a shuffle? I need to get the files that are currently stored on my shuffle and only my shuffle.

You could have a look at iPodRip, according to their website the program will work with any iPod including the Shuffle: iPodRip Win 2.8

  • Restore iOS 5.0.1 iPad already synced with other library?

    Hi
I just restored my original iPad to ios 5, and when i went to sync it, it said it had been synced with a different library, although it had never been synced since restore. What should I do?

    MacGenius8390-
You may need to return the iPad to factory settings and try syncing with iTunes again.  You can go to Settings-General-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings.
Then you can connect the iPad to the computer it had been previously synced with.  It will appear to be a new iPad, and you can choose to restore from the latest backup.  It will retain the latest version of iOS that had been installed.

  • HT1386 I erased my hard drive and now my ipod touch and Itunes will not sync unless I erase my ipod.  How can I have transfer transfer the data on my ipod to my computer?

I have a lot of music on my ipod that is not in Itune and I have songs in Itunes that are not on my Ipod.  What can I do to combine the two?  I do not want to erase my Ipod.  I have a lot of CDs that I put in Itunes and synced to my Ipod before I had to formatted my computer's hard drive.  It took hours to put my songs on the computer.  Once the hard drive was erased, I installed Itune and connected my Ipod.  Since I am using the same computer, why does Itune not recognize that my Ipod and computer are the same ones that are linked to my account?  What can I do to sync Itunes and my Ipod that does not require earasing my Ipod?

  • Icloud photo library won't work unless connected to wifi.  If I am trying to attach a pic to a message or email, I get the error "photo can't be downloaded from iphoto library, please try later." If I connect to wifi it works just fine.

If I am trying to attach a pic to a message or email, I get the error "photo can't be downloaded from icloud photo library, please try later." If I connect to wifi it works just fine.  If it's truly "storing" a low res version on my phone it shouldn't have to download anything.  I can understand the uploading of pics to library only being done over wifi, but there are plenty of times I'm going to want to send a pic when I'm not going to be near a network.  It does work occasionally, but the norm is that I get the error.

    Hi Ed,
There is issue with Windows 7 when you send the email. It gives the message you specified.
But you can always use Adobe Email client to send your images. In this workflow also you would get the error message but you can ignore it and continue to send the mail.
    Thanks,

  • Confused with multiple Library's.

I Have two Ipods, the older on is a 30GB classic and the new one is the 32GB iPod touch...I'm giving my wife the classic, tonight I have being reading here about how to create a new library for her without creating a new account.
Things were going fine I did the hold down shift and created the new library and the classic was erased so now she can put her music on it.
Now when I plugged hers out and the plugged mine in I got this warning....
"This iPod is synced with another library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this library.
An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this library"
What have I done, all the music I have on the iTouch is still there except I DO NOT see it on the iTunes....so if I click "erase and sync" I will lose it all?...
Why is my content not showing in the library when it is there in my iPod even after I sync?
I did something wrong I fear.
    Any help appreciated.

*Can I find my old library*
Hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one then open them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • My ipods Library won't sync with the new Library

Hi, I had do erase everything off my hard drive to fix a problem with my iphone today and when I went to restore itunes, my ipod won't sync with the library. I get the message that I would need to erase everything on my ipod because its sync with another library and sync with the new library which just has the things I brought in the itunes store. I have a lot more music that the music I got in itunes. So my question is how can I copy the flies (music/videos/movies) from my ipod to the new library? Please help me. Thank You.

You erased your hard drive without making sure you had a current backup copy of your music?
You can try a 3rd party program to get the music off ( this is not supported by Apple).
You can also try a forum search ( right side of this page), as this is asked and answered very often.
Zevoneer ( a fellow itunes user) does a great job explaining the options.

  • FM Transmitter used to work fine but stopped working, bought 2 new ones and neither work, they work with other Ipods in the house, IPOD Usb syncs fine with Computer, why won't it work with the FM transmitters anymore?

Are the other iPods models, same version as yours. The 2 New FM Tx may need a new iPod software, which you can update via iTunes.
    Good Luck!

  • ITunes 8 - thinks my iPod was synced with another library

Installed iTunes 8 - no issues with installation.
Plugged in my iPod - message pops up that my iPod is synced with another library (which it has not been). Choices are to Erase and Sync, or Transfer Purchases.
If I Erase and Sync I'm going to lose all of my playlists.
But if I Transfer Purchases won't I lose anything I've downloaded since the last time I synced?

  • I am trying to put the music from my ipod onto my new computer. After installing itunes and connecting my ipod touch a message comes up saying that my ipod is already synced with another library. What can I do to sync it with a new library?

I recently got a new computer and got rid of my old one. I am trying to put the music from my ipod touch onto my new computer but keep getting a message saying that my ipod is already synced with a library and cannot be synced with more than one. How do I access that library on my new computer and if I can't are their other ways for me to put the music on my ipod into my new computer?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0
