Ipod syncing then disconects

We have just brought a Ipod nano and a Ipod 160gb classic and have found both ipods to decide all of a sudden that they no longer want to stay connected to the computer.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?
The ipod classic has been sent to apple for service because we were unaware of anything like this site available.
We synced the nano and the classic to one computer then plugged it into another laptop and it asked if we wanted to sync with the machine and said yes so it deleted all the previous songs and photos that were installed. Now I have been able to put new songs onto the nano but can not get the ipod to stay connected so that I can edit the songs in the library.
Even though the Ipod nano is connected to the computer for charging, itunes says its conected but all of the library is all greyed out and cant select any of the menus or songs.
We did try two computers with the classic and 3 different cables thinking that might be the problem but havent tried anything with the nano as yet.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Yartz

Do you have the nano set to manually sync or to autosync?

  • IPhone syncs then disconects

Good morning to all of you; my wife has been experiencing this issue for some time and I cannot find an answer anywhere so I hope someone can help. She has a MacBook (white from late 2007) running Leopard 10.5.6 with latest updates. Also an iPhone 3G with 2.2.1 installed. When she connects her phone by cable to her MacBook it syncs, then automatically ejects the phone and then a few minutes later it connects it and syncs again. This goes on and on until we disconnect the phone. Any ideas how to stop this? Thank you very much for any help.

You probably have a bad USB connection or cable. Connect the iPhone to a USB port on the back of your iMac, and not to an external hub. Consider using another cable. Also, set iTunes to not automatically sync on connection either on your device page, or globally in the preferences.

  • IPod Sync Problem - syncs songs, but then no songs on ipod - space taken by other

I recently got a new computer with Windows 7.  I installed itunes (64 bit for windows 7) and imported my songs from my external hard drive.  I automatically synced my ipod classic and once it completed got the instructions that it was ok to disconnect.  When I did, my ipod shows no music, but the space taken in memory is the same as the amount of music I have (around 8,000 songs).  When I reconnect, I get a message that I need to restore my ipod since the files cannot be read and they show up as other on the bottom of itunes.  I've tried multiple times - restored ipod, uninstalled/reinstalled itunes, deleted ipod driver, reinstalled driver, cleared the ipod in disk mode, but no luck.  Please help me solve this problem!  It's driving me crazy having a new computer with itunes that does not work!

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes cant read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your Ipod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When Itunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your iPod, preferably Manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got quite a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
Good Luck! and have a Nice Day!

  • IPod sync failed. Disconnect and reconnect, then try again.

Over the past month or two, I have gotten this message quite frequently with my iPod. It usually happens after I sync my iPod once, leave it hooked up to my iMac for charging, and then try to sync again (sometimes not even more than a few minutes later). I also often have trouble getting my computer to recognize the iPod (or getting my iPod to recognize that it's supposed to start syncing) without having to disconnect and reconnect it and shake the USB cord around a few times.
I had a little bit of this problem with my iPod 5G and XP PC, though no "iPod sync failed" messages ever. This is a new iPod classic and an iMac. What's going on?
Does anyone else have this happen to them?

I'd been having this same issue and kept trying all the suggestions on the forums to no avail. Then I just disabled "Enable Disk Use", which required me to first disable "Manually manage music & videos". I unchecked all of my music, videos, podcasts and photos, applied the settings, then chose which media I wanted in my iPod. I synced successfully and even cleared it out completely a couple of times to re-sync. No issues anymore.

  • What would happen if i had my ipod sync to a computer then i plugg it in a different computer and i sync it to that computer what would happen

what would happen if i had my ipod sync to a computer then i plugged it in to a different computer and sync it what would happen

The contenst of the iPod would be erased and replaced with what is in the itunes library of the computer.  You can manage music among different computers.  See:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers

Just bought a gen 7 ipod Nano. All setting in iTunes are set to transfer. When I hookup to my computer. It says syncing then devise is synced. But absolutely nothing transferred!! Please help!

Never mind, got it to work. I stumbled around on Google for a while and somehow ended up reading things from the 'jailbroken' community. They had easy instructions to get out of Recovery mode. Thanks anyway though!
P.S. For anyone who experiences this, here is the fix: Hold Power and Home in unison for 6 seconds, then power on as normal.

  • IPod sync is complete - then eject, then iTunes hangs

When I get the message "iPod sync is complete", I wait a few seconds, then click EJECT the iPod...
    THEN iTunes hangs.
If I wait ONE MINUTE after "iPod sync is complete", then iTunes does not hang.
    Does this sound right?
After that, the iPod won't dismount.
If I force-quit iTunes, it will quit, and on restart, it will say "Syncing iPod" for a while then say "iPod sync is complete", but then the iPod WON'T dismount.
    What a bag of nails.

You did not answer my previous question about using the Restore button... That might help, if you did not try that yet.
The latest iTunes is 8.0.1 (11), so you could try upgrading. If there was a bug, it might fix.
If you are using the +enable disk use+ setting (the iPod appears on Desktop as a drive), try setting that OFF, click the Apply button. Then set it ON again, and apply.
Also, try ejecting the iPod by dragging the icon on the Desktop to the Trash (or using right-click/Eject) instead of using the little button in iTunes. If you do it that way, does ejecting cause the crash you describe.

  • IPod syncs in iTunes, then when I disconnect, there isn't any music on it.

Okay, so I've been all over this discussion board looking for answers. I've done all the normal things to overcome the problem and it's still here. There's two weird things, and I think they're related and both of them have to do with my iTunes, not my iPod. When I connect my iPod, which has been formatted, restored, you name it, to wipe it clean - it comes up with it being almost full of OTHER. There's nothing on the iPod (as I can tell if I plug it into a different computer). Then, when I try to copy music to it, it says it's transferring and the music shows up under the music tab of my iPod in iTunes, but if I unplug the iPod and check to see if it copied, it remains unchanged and the music doesn't show up. Like I said, I plugged it into a different computer and everything worked fine. So, I completely removed iTunes and every component of the software I could find and reinstalled the new version, but as soon as I plug in my iPod, it recognizes it, and shows me that it's 90% full of OTHER and has the same problems. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm uninstalling iTunes and going back to version 6, just to see if it will change anything.

Okay, so many frustrating hours later, I tried the last thing I could think of (should have been the first). I went into the Windows device manager and uninstalled the ipod, and then reconnected it and let windows reinstall the driver for it. Once I reinstalled iTunes 7, it recognized the ipod as new and asked me to set it up, the OTHER stuff on the bar that shows free space was empty and now it sycs fine. Problem solved

  • Apple TV Shows Up, Tries To Sync, Then Disappears

Well I've spent a couple hours reading threads and searching because I knew I've seen other people having issues with Apple TV showing up in iTunes, but I haven't read about quite the same problem nor have I found an answer.
This isn't a problem with mine. My dad recently got an Apple TV. Two weeks ago I went over, got it set up, copied their entire music and photo library plus about 60GB of movies. No problems. Last week when I was there, I was trying to copy one more movie but was having problems getting iTunes to see the Apple TV. I finally gave up and streamed the movie to show him and my mother. I forgot about the problem, but my dad called me yesterday saying he couldn't get music he purchased from the Apple TV over to the computer. Figures. Apple TV is still not showing up in iTunes. Apple TV has no problem connecting to the internet though and no problem streaming from iTunes.
Between what I was trying last weekend and what I've had him do, I can't think of anything else. Restarting either the Mac or the Apple TV allows for iTunes to see the Apple TV for a moment or two. It appears to attempt a sync, then disappears from the Devices list.
The Apple TV is connecting to the network via WiFi. He doesn't have a dedicated router though. The Mac is connected to DSL via Ethernet and Sharing is on to computers via WiFi. Again Apple TV has no problems streaming or connecting to the outside world. Laptops and iPods have no problem on this shared network either.
Can anyone think of anything I could try, or maybe point me to a thread I might not have found?
    Thanks!

Sorry for starting this thread now - hours too late. The thread I knew was here somewhere popped up. I'll keep this all over there and shut this down. Thanks.

  • Ipod syncing problems...?

Im having several ipod syncing problems. I have an Ipod touch, 4th gen with the standard USB cable that comes with to charge it and sync it with. Today, i plugged it into my computer like normal to sync some new songs onto it from itunes. But, it started acting up. First, it kept syncing on and off, and the sync sound wouldnt stop- it wouldnt stay synced. then, later, when it finally did, not long after it said "this device does not support charging," and itunes didnt recognize my ipod anymore, so i couldnt sync my songs. is there any way i can fix this? thanks in advance.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod sync issues with itunes 11

    Hello,
My classic iPod syncs very slowly with iTunes 11, it starts out syncing (2 songs) & then just "sits" with no progress.
iPod sofware is up to date, version 1.1.2.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Lee

I figured out how to put it in recovery mode and I'm starting over, this ipod is more work than it's worth.

  • My iPod touch 4G 8GB, lets me download apps on iTunes, but when I go to my iPod, and then apps, the entire selection is grey and won't let me click my new apps to add to my iPod. What can I do?

My iPod touch 4G 8GB, lets me download apps on iTunes, but when I go to my iPod, and then apps, the entire selection is grey and won't let me click my new apps to add to my iPod. Usually I just restore my ipod and re-download everything, but thats time consuming, and after I unplug my ipod from the cord connected to my computer, I can replug it right after and this will pop up again. I'm getting tired of doing this.
Like I said, it will let me download the apps off iTune, just when I come to my apps page on my ipod, it won't let me add it to my iPod. I can't download it straight from my ipod either, but iTunes doesn't work on my ipod, and when I update my apps, when they're in waiting they never move. What can I do?

I would say that you are not connected to the iTunes library you last synced with. You can only sync with one iTunes library. If you connect the iPod to another computer/another iTunes library then you get what you see.
You can only manually manage music and videos among different libraries, not apps.

  • Ipod sync

after loading itunes update, ipod is no longer seen in itunes...
tried all the usual things...even did a whole restore on ipod...now
i cant get music back on since it aint syncing...
    roger

    What model iPod?
What do you mean by "find"? How are you "finding" them?
Are you syncing from your iTunes library?
    or
Are you downloading them directly to the iPod by
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    If syncing then
If yo are syncing them then:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music. The delete is only on the later model iPods
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
