Ipod "Syncs" but doesn't add new music

My ipod has always worked perfectly fine with my computer and itunes. Yesterday I added a new mixCD to my itunes and tried to sync it with my ipod. My ipod shows up in the sidebar, and goes through a "sync" process, but hasn't added the new music.
Additionally I tested my ipod's syncing abilities by changing the name of a song on my itunes. This song is already on my ipod touch, so if it synced properly, the name should change. I hit "sync" but name did not change and my new music remained missing on my ipod.
Does anyone have any idea what this problem might be? I feel like it's probably something very minor I'm just not understanding.
PS I have a second gen Ipod touch, but have yet to update it, could this be the problem?

See if your Touch is set for "Manually manage music and video" (connect ot iTunes, look at the iPod's summary page). If so, then any changes you make in iTunes will not sync to the Touch -- that includes new music you add to iTunes, and changes you make to your library. If your iPod is in manual mode then you need to manually add new music, and if you change your library in any way you need to manually add the updated song(s) and delete the original version(s) on your Touch.
If you don't want your iPod in manual mode, un-check the "Manually manage music and video" option in iTunes and click the Apply button. You will then be able to synchronize your Touch to iTunes.

  • My iPod syncs, but doesn't save ANYTHING on the iPod

Basically, my iPod syncs, but doesn't save ANYTHING on the iPod, its the first iPod I have used and it really annoys me... I have tried pretty much everything :@
    Help?!

    Hello JellyPopJade,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
How do you have your iPod configured to sync with your iTunes library? Automatically or do you manually manage its contents by dragging what you would like from your library to the iPod.
If you have it set to automatically sync all checked songs and videos, make sure each track you wish to sync to your iPod is checked within your iTunes library.
Under the Summary tab for your iPod, is there any space taken of by the "Other" category (orange)?

  • Ipod touch 5... whenever i sync it, it will add new music, but then within a few minutes, all my changes disappear.  New music, playlists, etc...

Is this common, and is there a fix?  I have already tried restoring it.

Did you restore to factory settings/new iPod?

  • My ipod syncs but when disconnected wont show music?

When I connect the ipod it'll come up as "scan or fix disc" and i've fixed it for both the file errors and the recovery of bad sectors thingy in that window that pops up, and I've restored it several times in itunes. At first it would sync certain songs then it would get to a random song and say that the file was bad. So I tried syncing without those songs and it showed that it synced the memory even showed they were on the ipod, but then when I ejected the ipod it showed no music. Also, now everytime I plug the ipod in, itunes immediately stops responding. pleassseee help.

    - WIth theiPod connected to your computer click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes. How much storage is shown used in the Music category and how muchin "other".
    - Try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod and then syncing.

    Hi NYYJMM,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may want to reset your iPod nano and then sync again. If the issue persists, restore your iPod and try again. See these articles for the steps:

  • My IPod nano 6 connects to my library but will not receive new music and playlists

My ipod 6th generation will not receive new songs and playlists from my library on my PC. My ipod shows up in the itunes library when I connect it. It syncs when it is plugged in to computer but the sync is very short. I changed to a new computer back in September 2013. My old one crashed.  I have synced my ipad 2 and my iPhone 4S to itunes library on the new computer.  All these devices show up in the "manage my devices" list except my ipod 6th generation. There is no "add device" to this itunes account, only an option to deauthorize the computer, the iPhone or the ipad.
The ipod downloaded songs that I added to my computer library on my new computer, but will not add new purchased songs nor library playlists.
My computer is shared with my husband. His user account on the same computer shows up in my "manage devices" section of my itunes account. He doesn't use it. I thought I had to add my itunes on his part of the computer because his is the "main user".
I'm not sure what to do.  Should I take my computer, iPhone, ipad and nano to an appointment at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store?  Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I kept working at this after posting. On the sync page for the ipod on itunes library I chose to remove the iPods association with my old computer. It erased all the old content from the old computer and then put all my checked songs from the new computer on my iPod nano.

  • ITunes syncs, but doesn't sync new songs.

When I click on sync while connected via USB, it syncs fine, but it's not syncing the new music. This is while set to automatically sync everything that's checked and the new music is selected.
I've tried restarting iTunes, turning the iPhone off and back on, and searched around online for solutions, but they all say to switch settings.. which I can't do.
If I click on "sync music" under iPhone>Music, it wants to delete everything first. If I try to switch to a manual sync, it also wants to delete everything. This is the same computer, same apple ID, same iTunes library, that has always been used with this iPhone. There isn't anything on it from another iTunes library that it should want to delete. How on earth am I supposed to sync the music if it won't do it automtically like it's supposed to but I can't switch settings without deleting everything on my iPhone and re-syncing all nearly 17GB worth of 3,000+ plus songs, pictures, apps, and podcasts just to add 5 new ones?

  • I can't add new music to my iPod

Everytime I want to add new music, remove old or change something in my music library I can't do it and I don't know why, I know the version I have is a little bit old but it's stull working, so it will be very helpful if someone tell me what I should do

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
    Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

  • When I add new music to iTunes, it doesn't appear under artists or anywhere else in library.

The other night, I tried adding a bunch of music that I had sitting on my Seagate external hard drive to my iTunes library, which is also located on my external. I attempted to add around 1,500 songs at once. It was giving me problems at first and only added some of the music so I tried again. Now I have a problem.
When I add new music, iTunes only recognizes that I added it after I close iTunes are restart it. But then, the music doesn't show up under artists or anything. The new music shows up under the Recently Added smart playlist, the folder is located in the iTunes library, and when you search for the music it says its there, but it's not under artists or in the song list or anything.
    Example:
    1. Added music from Abandon All Ships! (who I didn't have before), but they don't show up under artists despite the fact that iTunes says the music is there.
    2. Added music from Whitechapel (who I had before), but the album doesn't show up with the rest.
Hopefully this makes sense the way I explained it. It's all rather frustrating.

This is the Mac OS X Technologies > iSync forum - you are a Windows user.
iSync is a Mac-only application for syncing Contacts and Calendars to mobile phones and PDAs. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Windows, iPods or iTunes.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If you have failed to bakup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases
