IPod Third Generation (Dock Connector) And Podcasts

Hi,
Is it possible to download podcasts onto a third generation iPod? If so, can anyone help me out with some instructions? I understand how to get podcasts onto iTunes but I just can't figure out how to get them from iTunes to my iPod.
Thanks for the help!
Mike

yes, it works, but it's not a perfect mechanical fit as the 5th gen is slimmer than the 3rd gen

  • 20 GB iPod (dock connector) and 60 GB USB cord

Wonder if anyone can help me out with this...
Back in January of 2004 I bought a new 20 GB touch wheel iPod with a dock connector (hence, it came with a firewire cord to connect it to the charger and the computer). In September of 2005 I purchased a 60 GB color display iPod (the fat one, not the ones that show movies) and that came with a USB cord rather than firewire. My firewire cord from the 20 GB works on the 60 GB, however it does not appear that the USB cord from the 60 GB works with the 20 GB. I wanted to give the 20 GB to a friend who has a PC and therefore does not have a firewire port, but if he can't use the firewire cord and the USB cord doesn't seem to work with the 20 GB, then he can't connect the 20 GB to his computer--so he's out of luck. My question is, should the USB cord from the 60GB work with the 20GB, or is there a USB cord that I can purchase that WOULD work with the 20GB or should I just forget about this idea?
    Thanks

But what is there to guarantee that buying another USB cable would work? I want to give him the USB cable that came with the 60GB, but it doesn't work with the 20GB... if he buys another one, how am I to know that he won't have two USB cords that don't work with the 20GB? Are there different kinds of USB cords, some that would work with the 20GB and others that wouldn't?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price:

  • Cannot get sound to come through my iPad it keeps coming up airplay dock connector and I can't switch it off ?, Cannot get sound to come through my iPad it keeps coming up airplay dock connector and I can't switch it off ?

The sound on my iPad sound doesn't always work, it will work without headphones for less than 3 minutes when I'm playing music but will work for longer when I'm not. It will work for an hour maybe with head phones in but then stop, in which time I have to take them out and put them back in to get the sound to work again. When the sound isn't working airplay says the sound is coming out of a dock connector, and the option, 'iPad' goes.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other problem

  • 2nd Gen iPod fit the dock connector of of 3rd Gen Color iPod?

So I have a 2nd Gen iPod (4 round buttons) dock connector 40GB and want to get the new universal dock with the IR sensory so I can control it with the remote. In the description of the new dock it says it is compatible with my model but doesn't say it comes with that particular dock apdapter. However it says that it does come with a the dock adapter for the 40GB color display. My question is does mine have the same physical dimensions as the 40GB color display model? And so will it fit into the dock adaptors that come with the dock or do I need to get some additional adaptor? I thought that they were identical in size, though on Apples "Identifying different iPod models" page it doesn't list the physical dimensions of them. If anyone knows this that would be great.

    hi Zachary!
good lord. something appears to have gone horribly wrong with the footnoting on the Universal Dock KB doc:
    Learn about iPod Universal Dock
okay ... here's what i think is going on.
it's saying that five different adapters come with the dock.
five of the adapters listed in the table have little superscript "1"s next to them (adapters 3-7).
the first of those two "bullet point" notes below the table says "Included with the iPod Universal Dock".
sooooooo ... my thought is that the five adapters you get with the dock are adapters 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
but your 40G four-round-button ipod is a dock connector ipod according to this document:
    Identifying different iPod models
which i think, according to the table on the Universal Dock page, means that you need a number 2 adapter, and so you're going to have to get an additional three pack of adapters for it.
... that all sounds plausible, but i'd prefer it if someone with both a universal dock and a 40GB dock connector ipod could actually tell us which adapter they have to use ...
    love, b

  • IPod (15 GB dock connector) 2003-04 how long it is supposed to run?

iPod (15 GB dock connector) 2003-04 touch wheel 15 GB
Can't seem to find any specs on how long it is supposed to run.
Perhaps using the iPod in cold weather makes it drain faster?
Tried repairing this iPod by using Disk Mode.
I've been running the iPod indoors for over one hour now and it is at 75% charged. Still think that there is a problem in that when I turn the iPod off and place it in hold mode, when I slide the hold mode back off the iPod is fully booted up, which means that it never really turned off. At best it runs one hour outdoors in the cold. My question, how long it is supposed to run.?

It's really hard to say how long a five or six year old battery should run. However, using any Li-Ion battery in the cold will adversely affect playing time. Remember also, that as the battery ages, its capacity decreases. If this is the original battery, I'd say you've gotten your money's worth.
You may get an answer about your iPod's original playing time if you post your query in the forum for older iPods Here

  • While syncing movie iPod/iTunes deletes my music and Podcasts

While syncing movie iPod/iTunes deletes my music and Podcasts. This is very frustrating becaucse I have ALL my sync settings set to Manual. What can I do to stop this? I'm about to throw my iPod against the wall!

sorry you've just been dealt a blow from Apple trying to "help" its customers. you're correct: you cannot sync only music or movies. even if "manually sync" is selected, once you sync something like moves, the rest of your library gets deleted. it's completely backwards and non-intuitive.

  • My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker

My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker so I can listen to my music and games.  Is it hardware or software problem?

I was told by a friend that sometimes when you use a 3rd party charger that the connectors are not the same size and so it can affect the sensors in the phone and make it seem like it is in a docking station and so changes the output for dock speakers.  With that said, I didn't take my pohone in to be serviced at the appple store because it was a 3GS and over 2 years old and so not covered by any service plan.  Since then my phone is back to normal and I can use my headphones and listen with the speakers on the phone.  I stoped using the suspected cheap 3rd party charger and maybe that's what did it, but not sure if it was or wasn't the cause of my problem.  I'm glad that my phone is better I was kinda holding out for the Iphone 5 when i comes out later and hope my phone lasted until then.

  • IOS7 switch between dock connector and bluetooth

Hi, in iOS6 when there were two potential outputs for sound you could drag up a little orange icon in Music or Pandora and switch between the dock connector and Bluetooth. I cannot find this functionality in iOS7. Can you please point the way? Thanks!

Appears that if I turn the headset off/on it resolves the issue. Off I go to the headset mfg. Appears to be their issue.

  • 5th generation iPod with 3rd generation dock connector?

    hello,
I have a 30GB 3rd generation iPod, which is now a totally crammed... so I am planning on buying a new iPod Photo. With my 3rd generation iPod, a dock connector was included in the package. Will this dock connector work with the new iPod Photo, or do I need to buy one of those "Universal Docks"?
I was looking in Apple Store, but couldn't find an answer there. Does anybody know?
    cheers,
    pj

    Hey,

  • IPod HiFi - What dock connector do I use for a 80GB (5th Generation) ipod??

    Hi,
Just got a new shinny ipod HiFi, however what dock connector can I use for an 80GB (5thG) as the connectors only go up to 60GB??? Or does the ipod come with a dock connector? Can anyone point me in the right direction, pretty please.
Any suggestions would be great help.
    Cheers
    Sian

You mean the dock adapter, right? The little plastic piece with a slot?
Use the one for the 60GB.
The only thing they do is make the iPods it correctly in the dock.
The dock connector is the slot on the bottom of the iPod.

  • I have a old third generation I pod and I was wondering how to fix it

I have a old third generation Ipod (very old) Its in good condition but internally I don't know what's wrong with it. I need help finding a way to send it off to get fixed. Any suggestions?

A 3rd gen iPod has a touch (not click) wheel, and four separate touch buttons that glow orange.  Is that the iPod model you have?
There are businesses that fix iPod, and some may be local to you.  A Google search on "ipod repair" and your city should give you some links.  An Apple Store may not service your older model.
If you want to try fixing it yourself, the 3rd gen iPod is fairly easy to work with, because the parts are still relatively large with reasonably sized connectors.  The trickiest step (the first time) is prying the case open.  This web site has repair guides.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
If the problem is something simple, like a dead battery, they are available for a low cost on eBay (and elsewhere online), and usually come with the plastic (nylon) pry tools.
NOTE:  If you have a 3rd gen iPod, as described above, it needs to have a FireWire connection, with a FireWire docking cable.  It will not charge over USB, even though it has a dock connector that fits the USB docking cable. If you are connecting it to a USB port, and that's why it is not working, perhaps it is not actually broken.
