  • Two users, two iPods, one computer~ problems

I share my computer with another ipod user. We are getting 2 issues confused. First, she was recently on the computer and probably updated music. Now, I can't get my ipod on to update b/c I get the msg. stating that another user has to log out. What was she supposed to do when she was done so that she was logged out? Is there anything that I can do to log her out w/out having her ipod around (she is out of the country for now).
Secondly, how can I seperate her music and my music, so that we don't have to take on each other's music every time we plug in the ipod?
    TIA

  • Photos from an Ipod to computer harddrive

    Hi Everyone,
First time on here, I have an IPOD 5 gen,
My IPOD and ITUNES were on another computer which has crashed.
I have uploaded ITUNES on my new computer but having problems transfereing the songs and photo's from IPOD to new ITUNES libary,
Can some one advise me if I can transfer whats on my ipod TO NEW itunes and can I transfer my photo's from IPOD to computer,
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

You can use 3rd party software, such as Yamipod, to move non-iTunes purchased music to your computer.
Try this link for your photos: http://www.ehow.com/how4451862photos-ipod-pc-pc-ipod.html
Just remember if you synced your photos to your iPod they are going to be thumbnails and look pretty poor on your computer.

  • Connecting ipod causes computer to freeze

Hello, I'm not sure which ipod I have (a 20 gig purchased around Dec. 2004). I just got a new computer with Windows Vista because my old one (which my ipod was configured to) died. That computer had Windows XP. I installed the latest version of iTunes on the new computer and tried to connect my iPod to the new computer and it causes iTunes as well as my entire computer to freeze when the iPod is connected via USB. However, when I disconnect the iPod the computer unfreezes. I would like to synch my ipod with the new computer so I can add everything from the ipod onto the new computer. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

I am having a similar problem. My whole computer doesn't freeze just "my computer" and itunes. But both windows and itunes don't recognize my ipod. I restored my ipod using a mac (erasing all my songs) and re-restored it on my pc. (It did recognize my ipod once I had formatted it on a mac first and asked for a reformat to windows) But it would not sync once I had finished with the restore. Please help?

  • How do i transfer photos and music from ipod to computer?

    Hi everyone,
a couple of weeks ago my computer crashed and i lost everything, i don't know how to put the music and photos that are on my ipod back onto my computer, can anyone help me? i am especially bothered about the photos, as they are the only copy of them that i have (the other copy was on my computer) and they are quite sentimental, i really don't want to lose them! I have seen other people say to plug in the ipod, go to my computer and unhide the music and photos, i think i have found the music but it's all under weird names and my computer won't let me open it. With the photos, all that i can find is two folders called 'photo database' and 'thumbs', but again, i can't open them, i just get a message up saying 'windows cannot open this file' and 'windows needs to know where this file was made before it can open it.' if anybody can help me then it would be much appriciated, i really don't want to lose my stuff. many thanks in advance x

These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
    YamiPod Software (Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – File=>Add Folder
7 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    8 - Click OK
9 - The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes
9a –- This will take some time depending on your PC and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try switching your update method to 'manual' , detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • IPod Classic Sync Problem - iTunes 11

I was having issues with syncing my iPod today. Multiple problems led to me having to uninstall iTunes on my PC and I also had to restore the iPod a couple of times. Once all was said and done, I could not sync my music to the iPod. It usually automatically synced when plugged in, but since the restore and reinstall, nothing happened. Even clicking sync with my iPod pllugged in didn't work.
SOLUTION (with the help of Apple tech support):
    1) Connect iPod to computer (make sure iTunes is running).
    2) Click on iPod name (mine is called Owner's iPod).
    3) At the top of the screen, next to "Summary", click on "Music".
    4) To the left of "Sync Music" there is a little box. There should be a check in it. If not, put a check there.
    5) The number of songs ready to be synced should appear.
    6) In the lower right hand corner, click on "Apply".
I saw in another forum information that I needed to find the box to select to sync songs, but the information was a few years old and I couldn't find it according to the directions. This should work for those with ver. 11.
If anyone else has sync problems and you HAVE A SOLUTION please share it here. Thanks!

    Hi black3793,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know it can be both frustrating and concerning when iTunes becomes unresponsive when you connect your iPod. In your situation I would start by isolating iTunes by uninstalling it and all of its components in the correct order and installing fresh. Please follow the steps in the attached article for removing iTunes and its components.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Does restoring your iPod solve the problem with the updater?

I have a fourth generation iPod and I downloaded the 10-12-2005 updater. Since then my click wheel will not work, but all the buttons on my iPod still work. I have looked through the discussions and many other people have this same problem, but i have not found any solution. Will restoring my iPod solve this problem? I want to be sure before I erase everything.

The music will come of your iPod but STAY on your computer. Documents that are on your iPod should be backed up because they will be deleted as well. Check the link below if you need more help.

  • More of a computer problem but...

I recently had some computer problems and ran a System Restore on my computer. Once it restarted and "restored" everything, my itunes would no longer open. It says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." So I tried to install the latest version of itunes hoping to replace whatever had been lost that was stopping it from opening. However, Itunes gets stuck in the setup and won't save to my computer. The message says "The path... cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes."
My final hope was that if I uninstalled it completely and started from scratch it would work, but now I get the same message as above when it tries to uninstall as well.
If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate it, at this point I'm stuck with an iTunes that won't open, reinstall, or uninstall. I've also tried plugging in my Ipod, and it connects to something and says not to disconnect it, but nothing will open or run on my computer. Help please!
      Windows XP

"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." With that one, let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. Use it to clear any existing iTunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. (Launch Windows Installer CleanUp, find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover iTunes and QuickTime program files:

Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • IPod and computer issues...

I have returned my 6GB and found out that they don't make the mini's any longer. Could this be true? Any way, I had to get a 4GB instead (the new iPod wasn't for sale yet at the store). I've read the countless of issues with the mini so that I don't know what the heck is the problem. Is it the iPod, the computer, the USB port, the iPod cable.
My computer sometimes recognizes the iPod, then it stops for a bit. I toy around with the cable, then reset, then reboot my computer and viola...it recognizes. That is until I hear the slight ding from my computer that the iPod connection was lost. I have deleted and re-installed both iTunes and iPod updater countless of times, in addition to changing over to 3 different computers in my home. Any solutions? Perhaps, this is why Apple doesn't make mini's any longer?

Good Afternoon, James Bond (great tag name): Yes, I am using the back-end USB port on my laptop. Do you think that the issue might be using a laptop vs. a desktop? I read somewhere in the discussions about similar laptop issues.
I have actually tried unsuccessfully using both of my laptop USB ports. I thought it was the iPod cable not fitting correctly/snug in the port. I hooked up my digital camera and my Treo phone, and they worked just fine. I then came to the conclusion that perhaps it is a software conflict (I have Treo and Palm software, Norton Antivirus and Firewall, ACT Database). What threw me for a loop was everything downloads just fine, but as soon as I plug in that little white iPod cable, it starts getting a tyrannical attitude.
There was probably nothing wrong with my original iPod that I returned. I returned it because it had absolutely no life no matter how many restores, reboots, deinstalls and reinstalls I did.
If you have other solutions, then let me know. Thanks for your kind response. M Manriquez
