Ipod to home stereo with usb audio port only

I'm trying to connect my ipod to my home stereo but the stereo only has an audio USB port (not RCA L and R audio ports). Is there a cable available that will go from the ipod (or Dock) to a USB audio port?
Thanks

See this for how to connect to a home stereo.

  • Connect ipod to home cinema with usb

first my ipod was windows compatible and at that time i could play music from the ipod on the home cinema.now my ipod is apple compatible because i bought an ibook g4.and this time i can not play music on my home cinema.
    please help me

Again, the iPod does not play audio via USB. It does play audio out of the dock connector.
What receiver do you have? The new Pioneers have an iPod input with a special cable that includes USB but also includes the audio signals on a separate line.

  • Connectivity Issues with USB 3 ports on macbook pro

Hi,  I have a zoom r24 which is no longer working as an audio interface with my new macbook pro.  I have read a lot about issues with USB 2 devices not being compatible with USB 3 ports on the macs. This seems to be midi as well as audio devices.  Can anyone recommend or point me to a list of supported devices for both audio and midi which are guaranteed to work with a late 2013 macbook pro retina display.  I cant afford a thunderbolt device.  Thanks steve

Just a wild thought here, but have you tried inserting a powered USB 2.0 hub between the MacBook and the interface?

  • Xperia Z3 compact won't connect to Sony car stereo with usb

Hi, To my dissapointment my Z3 won't connect to my Sony car stereo via USB at all, it seems it is uncompatable whereas my iPod does no problem.. Any help with this?

Most cars have an AUX connection which connects to the headphone jack and to AUX is also a headphone jack so a double ended 3.5mm audio jack which is for phones where as the USB connection is designed for dedicated mp3 style devices like your ipod

  • Ipod through home stereo

I have connected my iPod to my home stereo as noted, with 3.5 mini jack to RCA to the input, but the sound is very low and poor. I have the volume also listed as noted.
Is anyone using any special type of cable or am I missing something. I've tried it on two different receivers and still coming up with the same results.

I used a non iPod cable Mini 3.5 jack on one side and two RCA plugs on the other...
Jack has three posts, so you should be using a connector with three lines/RCA plugs. However, you only plug in the two audio lines to your amplifier/receiver.
Do you mean that if I will buy the iPod video cable it does not work to listen music in home stereo ?
No. I'm saying that if you use a non-Apple cable the line designated as video is actually the right channel audio and the line designated as right channel audio is actually the video output. Apple pulled a little "sneaky" here.

  • Can I connect a USB 2 sound card to a Macbook equipped only with USB 3 ports?

    Hello,
I just learned I might have to purchase a new Macbook because my USB ports are fried and I was looking at purchasing a refurbished Macbook pro from 2012:
    http://store.apple.com/ca/product/FD101LL/A/refurbished-133-inch-macBook-pro-25g hz-dual-core-intel-i5
the only trouble is I make music with a MOTU Audio Express sound card, and it only has a USB 2 port and a bus-powered Firewire (which I don't like using since it hasn't been too reliable in the past).
    http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/audio-express/summary.html
Unfortunately, it seems that the Macbook I'm looking into purchasing only has USB 3 ports, and I looked for info on USB 3->USB 2 adapters online and this simply doesn't seem to exist. The only info I managed to find on this subject was this little bit on the Apple website:
Can a USB 2 cable be used to connect a USB 3 device to my computer?
If the device end of the cable fits into the connector on the device, yes. However, because it has fewer wires, you won't get USB 3 speed and power may be limited to 500 mA.
does this mean that I can connect a USB 2 cable from the USB 2 port of the MOTU sound card to the USB 3 port on the Macbook? I'm OK with the power and the speed being limited to USB 2 power, I just want to make sure I can actually use my sound card with this new Macbook.
    Thanks!

I think I'm understanding this a bit more now.
Here is the cable that I use:
    http://www.amazon.ca/USB-Cable-Type-Male-Black/dp/B00183I7EE
The Type A part is the one that I'm currently putting into the Macbook and the Type B part goes in the sound card.
Would this work with a USB 3.0 port on the Macbook?
Thanks for your time and patience...

  • Connecting iPod to home stereo

What are the best-sounding options to hook up my iPod to my home stereo? Is there a way to hook up my iPod to my home stereo via a digital connection (i.e. a coax or optical connection)? I have a high end home theater receiver with a very good D/A converters and would like to use the D/A converters in my receiver rather than those in the iPod or iPod docking station.

Thanks for your suggestions! Both of those products look like they would do the trick.
From the look of those 2 adapters I would guess that the signal that comes through the iPod dock connection has already been converted from digital to analog (that is unless the adapters have built in D/A converters, which I doubt). That being the case, it doesn't look as though it is possible to run a digital connection from the iPod to a receiver (although maybe it can be done from iTunes on my computer...?).
    Thanks again!

  • Hooking up iPod to home stereo receiver?

Hi, all. I just bought my first iPod, a classic. I wanted to hook it up to my home stereo receiver, an NAD made back in '88. It has inputs for phono, tape, CD and video.
I went to my local Apple store and told the sales person I wanted to hook up my iPod to my receiver. He sold me a Belkin cable that goes from the headphone jack on the iPod to the RCA inputs on my receiver. Only problem is, I can't figure out how to make it work. So far I have questions:
    1. Which input should it go into--tape, CD or video?
    2. How loud should I set the volume on the iPod?
    3. Do I need to do anything with the "settings" such as the EQ or "clicker"?
Sorry if this question has been asked and answered a dozen times in the past month. I ran some searches here before I posted. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    John

Whichever one makes the most sense for you (and is free to use). I'm assuming all the inputs are identical apart from the labelling to match the input selector on the front of the unit.
Hi, iBod, thanks for your answers.
The only thing I'm still unsure of is the assumption that all the inputs are identical in terms of the voltage or amperage that they can accept. For example, I know that the phono input is designed for a signal that needs preamplification and the tape input is designed for a signal that doesn't. I'm not sure about the CD and video inputs, and what I want to avoid is having the iPod damage the receiver with too much amperage or voltage or whatever.
    Anyone know for sure?

  • Ipod won't connect with USB 2.0

When I connect my ipod to my computer using a USB 2.0 socket, it comes up with the do not disconnect screen for a few seconds then changes to 'ok to disconnect' with a tick on it.
But when I connect it to a USB 1.1 socket it works fine. It doesn't seem to be a USB card fault as all my other devices work with the card, just not the ipod.
    iPod Photo   Windows XP

hmmmm. are there any other USB peripherals attached to the same card when you're trying to sync the ipod, Outtathaway?
(i've seen a few cases where power drain on other USB ports was interfering with ipod/USB 2.0 connectivity.)
what make and model of USB 2.0 card are you using? (i understand from my occasional visits to the Fifth Generation Ipod forums that cards with the NEC chipset seem to be giving people the best performance.)

  • Bass distortion when plugging ipod into home stereo

My stereo system(including its speakers) and my ipod (with earphones and on my iMac)both play great. However, when I plug in my ipod to my stereo via the phono jack(no other jacks are free), some of the songs are distorted like my speakers can't handle the low bass. When I play the music directly from the CD on the stereo, it sounds great and there is no distortion.
I'm using the iPod connection kit and the volume is turned down on the iPod when I connect it to the stereo. Setting the iPod to a lower base setting on the equalizer in the iPod helps but it still isn't right.
Total frustration-I'd rather not try the output on any other jacks on my tuner because that would mean disabling a unit like my cassette deck (yes there are people who still own them).

As other posters stated, the phono jacks are designed for turntable cartridges. They are much more sensitive than the AUX inputs and have a non-linear frequency response to compensate for the non-linear response of the cartridges. Cartridges put out less signal for low frequencies so the phono pre-amp boosts bass -- which is why you notice the distortion more on bass.
Since you're out of inputs, you could add an external switch. Radio Shack sells a "2-Way Audio/Video Selector Switch (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049644&cp=&pg=1&searchSor t=TRUE&sr=1&retainProdsInSession=1&y=9&origkw=rcaswitch&kw=rcaswitch&x=14&s=A-StorePrice-RSK&parentPage=search)" for $17. It also switches video signals -- which you don't need -- but you can just ignore those connectors. There may be a cheaper, audio only switch out there.

  • P55CD-53 Freezes/crash when a device is plugged at back panel(usb,audio ports)

    Hello, I'm a new P55CD-53 user and I have a problem with my board's back-panel ports(usb, audio).
Whenever I plug a device at the back panel, my computer freezes or restarts.  :(

Its only an old AVR(from my old p4 computer, previous than the previous one). My UPS's battery that I used with my previous computer(after P4) died, it can not hold any charge now.

  • Volume control with USB Audio device

    Hello all.
I have just purchased a cheap USB audio device to connect my HiFi to my laptop with only one, neat USB lead and a USB hub - meaning I no longer need several USB wires and an audio cable across my desk.
This works fine, but I have just noticed that the volume control in OS X has no effect on the output now, only Mute or On. The volume within iTunes works fine, but not the OS X one.
Any way I can avoid having to use the volume on the hifi when using the USB Audio device?
    Many thanks.

Don't think so unless that piece of hardware came with compatible Mac software to control it.

  • Mac Book Pro Power Adapter with USB charge ports?

Does anyone make a MBP power adapter with 2 USB charge ports? It seems logical to have one power adapter that charge your MBP, iPhone and iPad all at the same time while minimizing the things one would have to carry on travel.

    Hopefully!
I said to them "you dont even need to put the ports on the brick itself, put it on that little wall plug adapter thingy... that way if you only want to charge your iOS devices you can leave the brick in the bag!... Fingers crossed and thanks again for the help tjk!

  • Why won't 'Speakable Items' Work with USB Audio Input Device (Lexicon Lambda)?

I am new to Apple Macs, yay for me!
I really want to use the 'Speakable Items' feature but unfortunately it just won't work with my Lexicon Lambda external USB Audio device.
Now, the Lambda is plugged in and working, and I know this from using the "Diction' feature which works perfectly.
When I go to System Preferences and click on accessibility>'Speakable items' and I turn on speakable items, I notice that under 'microphone' I'm unable to calibrate the microphone for some reason (if that's at all relevant).
I follow the instructions and have been asking 'what time is it?' and nothing happens
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem, using 10.8.4. I have been using Speakable Items for a long time, but it's not reacting at all anymore. I'm on a Mac Mini and have tried several inputs, that all work with dictation, and are selectable inputs for Speakable Items. Zoom H4N, Apogee Duet and an UAD Apollo. The only problem I can see, aside from something in the OS, would be that I have SoundFlower and WavTap installed. Will try uninstalling them, to see if that helps.
