Home button on 4th generation ipod touch isn't working.  any suggestions?

    Try:
    fix for Home button
Fix a broken, unresponsive or sticky iPhone Home Button
    - If you have iOS 5 and later you can turn on Assistive Touch it add the Home and other buttons to the iPods screen. Settings>General>Accessibility>Assistive Touch
    - If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
You can do it an an Apple store by:
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
or sent it in to Apple. See:

Your iPod is probably covered by the warranty.  Check here:
Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage
However, it does not cover misuse such as caused by dropping the iPod.
    - Try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - See if placing the iPod in recovery will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • My FaceTime isn't working properly. Every call I make a black dot appears on the camera in the middle (fixed onto the screen, and is not dirt), and the calls always fail. It would ring 6 times and then say call failed. How can I fix this?

If FaceTime ever worked properly for you, restarting your modem (and separate router/wireless if you have such) may help.  If the problem continues, try connecting at a different location to see if the problem is within your wi-fi.
The black dot problem may mean you need to reset your iPod.  If that does not help, it may need service by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
If you need help with any of these suggestions, detailed help on each topic is available via Apple's Support pages:

    Hi there,
Wondering if you might know?  I don't have enough space to update the new software on iPad.  So my facetime isn't working anymore, this is prob why. Seems I have to delete like all the games/apps we have to do so.  Will I lose the progress data/levels in the games? But how do I back up the games data?
Please help.  Scared to delete them to update and then not have the space to restore them and if I get them again will the levels/progress be gone?
    Thanks Rachel

Connect your device to iTunes and do the update through iTunes. Using a computer takes much less space on your device than doing the update on your device.

  • The wifi on my ipod 4g isn't working

the WiFi on my ipod 4g is not working if says I'm connected at the top but when I try to use safari it says I am not connected I tried resetting the network setting but that didn't work

Despite the WiFi sign you may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address when the iPod requested it. To check on this go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix for this can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest firmware from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • The Home Button on My iPod Touch Isn't Working

A few weeks ago, my home button on my 4th Generation iPod Touch stopped working. I soon found that I had to press it at a certain part of the button for it to work (by part I mean the left right top and bottom corners). Then for a little while it was fine, but yesterday I had the same problem, and now it's not working at all, and closing all my apps didn't help. What can help my problem?
(if it helps, I do have a habit of pressing the button three times whenever I open it or leave an app, so I may have worn it out somehow)

    - Try here:
    fix for Home button
    - Try using the Assistive Touch accessibilty feature instead. See chapter 30 of the Users Guide
iPod touch User Guide (For iOS 5.0 Software)
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and hear what they have to say.

  • My ipod touch isn't working. Please help!!

So I was using my Ipod touch, generation 4 32g, recently and I dropped it onto a wooden floor. The hard case (i got it at one of the stand things at the mall) fell off like it usually does when i drop it on a hard surface. I picked it up and it continued to work. I went to my room, bought a new app and played it for a while. When I was done using it I lightly tossed it onto my bed. A little while later I went and picked it up and tried to use it. The screen was completely black and would not turn on when I held down the power button. Usually when it dies because the battery is too low, when I hold the power button an i con comes up but it won't even do that. I have tried charging it but it won't work. Is there any way to fix it without needing to get a new one? I don't know if there is a warrenty on it because I got it as a gift. If you have had this problem or a simmilar one could you please let me know how much it would cost without a warrenty or with a warrenty. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

  • I have done everything apple suggests, and my ipod still isn't working

I was given a 1st generation shuffle from my brother and have been using it for about a year now until apple came out with itunes 8.1. Then things went bad....really bad. First it started playing songs in shuffle order even though I had shuffle off. After this, I had problems with new songs downloaded on the shuffle because they wouldn't play, and my song list was shortened. After this I tried restoring my shuffle and it couldn't restore it. It never finished restoring cause it came up with an error of 1419. I downloaded the apple reset utility program and all it does when I run this, is tell me an error, tell me it can't obtain information, or it freezes when I run that program. The one thing the program does do, it makes the i pod status light blink orange compared to it doing nothing at all. I have done everything else on the support page, i mean everything, and nothing has worked. I even got a new 1st generation shuffle from my brother and it ended up doing the same thing exact thing!!! Please someone tell me something that works!!

Is this shuffle white with a USB plug on one end. That's the 1st gen shuffle. If it has a clip with a colorful (or silver) metal case, that's a 2nd gen shuffle.
Since these two shuffles BOTH have this problem on your computer, ask your brother if he can use Restore in iTunes on these shuffles (or use the iPod Reset Utility). If it works on his computer, there is something odd happening on your computer.
If you think a combination of iTunes 8.1 and something about your computer is causing this problem, remove iTunes 8.1. Then install iTunes 8.0
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/iTunes8_0_2_forWindows
Then see if you can get the shuffle to work or restore.
