Ipod to windows connection without itunes

I am wanting to take some data files using my ipod to another computer that doesn't have itunes. Short of downloainging itunes, will just connecting the ipod to a USB port work? That is, will the ipod be visible in My Computer or Windows Explorer in XP? Thanks!

If you are simply transferring plain text Notes files from your iPod to another computer, then yes; this is possible with simply Windows explorer.
All you need to do is connect the iPod to your computer, go to My Computer, double-click on your iPod's drive, and find the Notes folder.
There, you should be able to drag those files fromt he iPod to somewhere on your own computer.

My iPOD will not connect to itunes after windows 8.1 download
I already uninstall itunes and made sure there were no file left before I installed again (it didn't appear to be any files left but music I had on it before was still there when I reinstall it)
My ipod does work on my old computer and it was working on windows 8 before I update to  8.1
I don't want to installed again because I just did that and didn't work!
I want to use my iPod on this computer and system.  Can this be fix?

    Hey TheBurntApple,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPhone connecting to iTunes for Windows. While you may have already attempted most of the steps in this article, I wished to provide it to you just in case something was omitted.

Whenever I update from Windows 7 get error 1602, iPod shows USB connection to iTunes, but iTunes will not recognize the device. None of the Apple documentation helps. The Apple Mobile Device driver is loaded and operating. The anti-virus software and firewall are not at fault (were uninstalled, and made no difference). The iTunes on my older machine running Vista does recognize the inoperative iPod (iTunes has detetced an iPod in recovery mode) and allows me to restore the device. Can anyone help to resolve this problem on the Windows 7 PC?

So yu tried all of this:
Error 1600, 1601, 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
If you had then time for an appointment at ther Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I do not understand what "it says in the windows connect to itunes" means?
What is "it" and what is "windows"?

  • What is the procedure for a hard boot of my iPod touch 4th generation without itunes, and without computer, and without iPod data screen.?

What is the procedure for a hard boot of my iPod touch 4th generation
without iTunes, and without computer, and without iPod data screen?
6 months after purchase I updated my iPod touch as recommend by iTunes.
It has not worked since that day.  It frozen (disabled) with a "connect to
iTunes" icon displayed...that is the only thing it does.  itunes does not
recognize the iPod.  My Windows7 computer recognizes an Apple device.
Other computers recognize the devise but if iTunes resided on that
computer it did not recognize the iPod
I suffered a setback with deep depression and am just now getting out of it enough to do something.  The depression prohibited me from taking action.
I have done every procedure recommended from Apple help and external
sources.  I did this thoroughly with help for other owners and IT experts,
Apple employees etc etc.  I and associates have perform reboots utilizing a
number procedure using only button on the iPod.  These were unsuccessful
    also have performed.
Please do not ask me to do the usual.
Online I saw  a process using the buttons on the iPod to completely
    reformat
the iPod.  It was NOT the hold buttons for 10 sec let go of one wait 8 sec
etc.  I can not find the process now...a friend showed it to me in passing
I have lost contact with him.  This is the procedure, I believe, that with
enable me to update and use the iPod.

You need an internet connection and likely a computer with iTunes but an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with the FindMy iPhone App may work by:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
    Otherwise
    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Must do a restore, but iPod won't connect to iTunes 7.0

    Hi,
I have an iPod mini that I bought last year. I updated to iTunes 7.0 a few days ago and everything was going fine, but today I noticed that all of my songs were gone (on the iPod).
I tried to plug my iPod back into my laptop to put all the songs back into it, but iTunes gave me this message:
    http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/3981/error2ii5.jpg
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "IPOD". Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings."
The thing is, my iPod can't connect to iTunes, so I can't get to the Settings section to restore my iPod. What can I do? Is there another way to restore the iPod so that it will connect to iTunes?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I have the same problem; after installing iTunes 7 I get the error message stated above but can not view summary since it can not connect. I still have all my songs though. I have tried to reset and going into disk mode, but seems my iPod can not go into disk mode.
Is it possible to get the older version of iTunes back? Thanks,

  • I've forgot my passcode on my Ipod and it says Ipod is disabled connect to itunes, but when i connect it to itunes it doesn't even come up at the side, i don't mind if i lose everything just what do i do?

this is the second time i have forgotten my passcode to my ipod touch, the first time i had no problem with resetting everything, it worked fine, this time it says ipod is disabled connect to itunes, so i plug it into my laptop and i sit there staring at the side bar on itunes till it comes up with my ipod, but it doesn't, when i do this on another computer it lets me restore it, but then it stops halfway and said cannot do this since ipod is locked with a passcode, please enter the passcode and try again, but if i cant get into it how can i put in my passcode? is there any way that i can find out my passcode, or any other way i can reset my ipod
its an ipod touch 4th generation

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:
Restore (and reset passcode) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)

  • I have an ipod touch that hasn't been used for a while.  Now we want to use it, but the screen says "ipod is disabled connect to itunes"--but it won't connect.  I have tried to place in recovery mode with directions given but still get the same message.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
