Ipod totally frozen

The screen says do not disconnect, nothing is happening, and i-tunes does not recognise ipod - computer cannot restore settings as it says "problem downloading ipod software".
Any clues ?

I had the same problem several months ago and I could not get the iPod to rest or connect at all, so that I could restore the original settings. I followed the suggestions by Mitch 751 at the link below but did not have any luck.

Two days ago I accidentally knocked the iPod of the desk whilst cleaning and when I tried it again it worked, I don't know why but it did, I have since restored the iPod and re-loaded all my songs from iTunes.
Not sure if this will help you but it did solve my problem.

I just bought the new iPod touch 3rd gen and brought it home and plugged it into iTunes.
I began downloading the update to 3.1.3 and after it had finished downloading the iPod got "Alert Message 6" and my iPod froze, locked up and is now completely unresponsive with a black screen a.k.a Bricked.
I tried holding both the button apart and together and had no response.
If I plug it into my computer I get a "USB Device not recognized" Message and the iPod remains black screened.

Just posting this again, went back to the best buy were I had gotten the iPod and returned it for another one, this one has worked fine until I realized today that I hadn't installed the update to 3.1.3.
I installed this update and afterwards I got the same error, #6 I think, and now again after trying to update it on a second iPod months later, it has crashed and is now completely useless yet again.
When I plug it into my computer, I get an error telling me that the USB device is not recognized and iTunes does not register it either.
Other then never updating my iPod again, I need some help because I do not feel like continuing this vicious circle.

I went to charge my ipod from my computer and when i put the adapter into my ipod, it turned on but not it is totally frozen and wont' turn off! The backlight is still on and I tried resetting it and it won't work. None of the buttons are working or anything. I can't even turn it off. I am using an Ipod Nano! Please Help! What can I do? Ok...My Ipod is frozen, what next???

My Ipod is frozen. I've tried resetting it. I've tried downloading the updater. I've hooked up to both my computer and USB adapter. I'm out of answers. I only have questions. This Ipod is not that old. It's a 20gb with only 1600 songs on it. What trips me out is that my mini NEVEr gave me any problems.

Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...

My iPod is frozen at the start-up screen logo thing, and it just won't continue to the menu.

I've actually managed to fix this by unplugging the speakers and turning up the volume for the internal speaker. I found this solution on the following link.

Ipod Touch frozen with Apple logo & loading bar below!

My laptop shutdown while my Ipod was updating software. It is frozen with the apple logo & the loading bar below. When I turned my laptop back on, it will not recognize my Ipod. This means I cannot even try restoring it. I have unplugged & plugged back in & tried holding the buttons on the Ipod for 10 seconds. I'm not sure what to do! Help please!

It just began with me connecting my iPod to my mac and a window popping up saying "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly, and you must manuually eject the ipod before each disconnect".I didn't know how to update it again (because my itunes is the lastest version already). Did you try to reset by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, untilt he Apple logo comes back again? If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained in this article:

Hello. My iPad2 shows a message of iCloud Setup "Ingnore or Settings". When I press on either, it doesn't do anything. Screen is totally frozen. I have turned it OFF and ON and the message keeps coming back. Any ideas of what to do? Thanks

You are still under warranty. Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.

What happens when you follow the instruction in the link I provided?
If it still shows the log, then let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try it again.
If the logo still shows that points to a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Ok, I am useless with the whole ipod thing, but that exact thing happened my within the first week of my new 30g. What I did was let the ipod drain its battery over night and when it was dead, I pluged it into my laptop and it worked ( i.e. wasn't frozen on the "do not disconnect" anymore), but not too well, so in itunes I restored factory settings and then had to start downloading from the beginning (not to bad for me as only a week old and everything still in library)
Would drain it anyway and see how you go

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
