Ipod Touch 16gb 1st Generation Problems

Hello I bought my Ipod Toch 1st Generation June 6th 2008. I am having problems with my Ipod Touch, at first after about 2 weeks of owning it dust started to build up under the screen, I did not think much of this but after I really looked at how much dust was under the screen. If that is not bad enough just last week I noticed 3 dead pixels on the screen. I tried the pixel frozen test and did not fix, and this morning when I truned on my Ipod I noticed that I no longer have three pixels gone but now a whole chunk of the screen gone to "dead" pixels. I was just wondering if I could send it into Apple for them to fix it or if there was a way for me to fix it my self.
Cheers, Eric

Unless you bought the Apple Care Protection plan your out of warranty. If you have that give them a call or visit your local store and they should be able to accommodate you.

  • IPod Touch 16GB 1st Generation - touch screen area stopped working

Hello there, the last 2 days I'm experiencing a problem with my 16GB 1st Generation iPod Touch. One cm under the top of the touch screen and for about 10mm height, the screen is not functioning. I noticed this when I was on the AppStore and tried to buy an app. Exactly at the "Buy" button and on full width the multitouch screen doesn't work at all (touch/scroll/zoom etc.). I use OS 3.0 and I've installed it from my PC with the latest iTunes. I use the latest OS since it's release day and only yesterday the problem appeared.
The iPod is protected with silicon case since day 1, also has a screen protector and it's never dropped, scratched or anything that could cause this problem. I believe the problem/bug/dysfunction it's software related, even tho, I've restored the iPod erasing all it's data to the factory settings with the last OS, the problem remains.
Do you suggest me to downgrade back in version 2.0 and see what happens? Do I have to to downgrade to version 1.0? Please advise cause here in Greece the service doesn't exist as in the rest European countries and as in the rest of the world who has official Applestores.
I use both Mac and PC with my iPod Touch, so you can suggest solutions for both platforms. (Leopard/Vista)
I'm waiting for a response as soon as possible, thanks in advance and please advise me as an experienced user
The iPod Touch is bought from US and brought here in Greece on January 2008. It's the iPod with the January Update in case you're wondering.
    Thanks for your time,
    Vangelis Makridakis.

Seems that the problem isn't software related.
I've downgraded to 2.2.1 from 3.0 and nothing happen.
I can't buy apps from AppStore, I can't join a WiFi network and much more...
Apple made *faulty digitizers* (touch screens) cause as I've searched on the internet, many others have the same problem. Since it's out of warranty, Apple is covered... BUT customers should know that even if they don't drop their device or if they protect them, no matter what, one day they won't be able to touch some random areas of their screens.
As a customer _I demand answer_ and also a replacement program for faulty digitizers since will be confirmed that the customer never dropped or scratched the faulty device.
Also, since in Greece (where I live) we don't have Apple official representation as the rest of the European countries, I probably will have to pay A LOT to Rainbow S.A for a digitizer replacement and also to wait about a MONTH to get my device back.
Thank you Apple for making perfect products with the chance becoming lemons instead of apples.
    Vangelis.

  • IPod Touch 1G (1st Generation) Battery Issue

Hello. I realize there has been a ton of conversation about battery life on the Touch - so much so that it makes it difficult to search through in the Forum. So here is my battery problem. Recently, I updated to the latest 3.1.3 firmware on my wife's iPod Touch. The other day I noticed that the iPod's battery only lasted about 4 or 5 hours and all we were doing was listening to music (through the headphone port). It had a full charge when we started and we just queued up a large playlist (NOT Pandora or anything streaming) and let it play. We did, however, have wifi on. Originally, I thought it was the battery going bad and started to look into replacement. First though, I ran some tests. Here they are in chronological order:
    1. - Fully charged iPod, all apps installed, and wifi OFF. I played videos from the iPod for 5.5 hours straight (with auto dimming turned on). Pretty impressive. Must not be a bad battery.
    2. - Fully charged iPod, deleted all non-Apple apps, and wifi ON. There were 2 email accounts and a Google calendar account set to fetch, but push was turned on in the main settings. After leaving sit (in sleep mode) for 2 hours, the battery was at 97%. Still pretty good.
    3. - Fully charged iPod, wifi ON, with the following apps installed - Remote, Pandora, Facebook, Mobile Air Mouse Pro, Last.fm, Paper Toss (free version), Evernote, Google (apps), and Accura Precision Battery Monitoring. These are probably my most essential apps and most (if not all) are from large companies with a wide user base (assumed more reliable). I left it sit over night (in sleep mode) for 10 hours and had 60% battery life left in the morning. Something is draining the battery here.
So, it appears to have something to do with wifi and/or my apps. My understanding is that the iPod Touch is supposed to power down wifi while in sleep mode. Is this correct? Could it be a bug with the new firmware? I feel like this is a recent phenomenon with the iPod (don't remember ever having such poor battery life). I would just turn wifi off when not in use, but to me that seems like an unnecessary hassle. I mean, isn't wifi one of the main points of having an iPod Touch? Is anyone else having this issue with the latest firmware and similar apps installed? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I got my 32 gb 1st gen ipod touch in 2007. It has been used non stop since then, in january 2010 I started to notice that the battery was not lasting as it should (19 hours). in 2008 the battery still lasted for 29 hours of non tsop music (no wifi of course).
I got the battery replaced and the battery is behaving as it should (29 hours of non stop music playback).
as the other poster commented. if you use wifi continuously, this will die quicker. The same with games, since the hardware in the 1st gen is not as efficient as in the later generations.
i would say first disable wifi and test just continuous music playback and see if you get the advertised 22 hours of battery life. if you do nto get that then it is time for a new battery...

  • IPod Touch 8gb First Generation Problem

    Dear Apple Discussions:
I just recently acquired a iPod Touch 1st Generation from Ebay.com on May 3rd 2010. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180501743808&ssPageName=STRK: MEWNX:IT ~~~>And it just arrived here today, 5/8/2010. My ultimate problem is that it won't turn on. I've tried the button "trick" but with no success. I've scanned the internet and nothing can be found. I'm not sure of its been Jailbroken. This is my first Apple iPod Touch. I also have a Apple iPod Nano 5th generation. The 5th generation iPod Nano from Apple.com is recognizable in iTunes but when I go to connect the iPod Touch 1st generation 8gb from Ebay.com it doesn't connect at all. The iPod Touch is completely unresponsive to anything that I do. Any help at all would be tremendously appreciated.
    -Branden Hunter (ShadowKissedDhampir)

What I mean't for the "button trick" was:
If you found your ipod touch is 'dead', ie won't turn on, holding the power button (top right on
Ipod) does nothing, your comp doesn't even recognise it, iTunes also - then you might need to do the following :
    1) Start your iTunes and connect your iPod touch to your comp.
    2) Keep holding the POWER button (top right) together with the HOME button (centre, bellow the ipod screen) for about 10 seconds. You should hear a sound(s)..
Release the POWER button ONLY, keep holding the HOME button, you will again hear some sounds.
    3) If you did it correctly iTunes will tell you that it has detected an iPhone or iPod touch in recovery mode.
You should be able to re-sync all your previous ipod content from there...
Sorry, if this was already posted somewhere here, but I just recovered my ipod after searching the net, so wanted to share it..
I did donload and re-isntall the latest Itunes before I did the above, so try that if the above doesn't work the 1st time out..

I think I'll try what you said now. Thanks much :)!~ Sincerely, Branden

  • Will iPod touch 16GB 5th generation be updated to iOS 7?

Have son with a reading disability. I want to load his audio textbooks on an iPod. The current price on the 16GB Touch 5th gen is very attractive, but not being able to update to iOS 7 would be a deal breaker. Thoughts?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The only iPod touch that can be upgraded to iOS 7 is the 5th generation iPod touch, so you will be able to upgrade your device when iOS 7 is launched in fall > http://www.apple.com/ios/ios7

  • Ipod Touch 16GB 2nd Generation

I purchased a 2nd Gen 16GB Ipod Touch from Argos in October 2009. There is a kind of clicking noise when I touch the righthand side of the screen. The lefthand side makes no noise. I was just wondering what I should do as the 16GB is no longer availiable to buy.

You have to buy updates through iTunes and install them through iTunes.
You cannot update the OS directly on the iPod touch.
If you already have 3.0 on the iPod then you will get 3.1 for free in iTunes.

  • Unable to activate new ipod touch 16gb 4th gen

Hi I just got a new ipod touch 16gb 4th generation & how turned it on to charge & set up etc.  I've connected it to my home wifi modem but from thereon it is unable to activate.  I have no idea of what software it's running.

I've since been able to activate it to a degree - had to connect to a computer & download iTunes.  It still won't let me sign in even though I've set up & verified an apple login.  Very frustrating!!

  • IPod Touch, 16GB, Generation 5, will not sync with my computer?

I purchased an iPod Touch, 16GB, Generation 5 from Wal-Mart. I've tried everything from re-installing iTunes to rebooting the computer and iPod. However, even after clicking Trust, it won't fully trust my computer as well as iTunes isn't recognizing it. For reference, I'm using a Windows 8, Dell PC, and iTunes is fully up to date.
It will download music from the store on the device itself, and iTunes recognizes when the purchases are made on the device, but it still won't sync it.

    Try:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

My paper work for my linksys says WEP 64 bits. I've tried changing my IPOD to that and it will say put in password and when I do I get "invalid password" or can not connect. This has been in the last few weeks. I have researched this for the last 2 weeks, called apple and they said it's not my IPOD, called Linksys and they want to charge $30 to fix it. How do I change my router without totaly not messing it up?

  • IPod Touch iOS 4 Update Problem

    Hello,
Today I received a new iPod touch 8GB 2nd Generation from Apple, after my old one's audio jack failed. When I got home I decided to try and update to iOS 4 from 3.1.3. Download went fine, started to install. Everything went fine until my iPod got stuck with the Apple logo and the loading bar beneath. On my MacBook the loading bar is stuck on roughly 5%.
I was like sure, this has happened before to my 1st 8GB iTouch, we ended up getting that one replaced, then got the replaced one replaced again. So now I am on my second replacement, and it has failed me again.
I held down the home and lock button until it has reset. Original image comes up from when you first purchase the iPod, so yes I plug it into my laptop.
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes"
Ok sure, so I decided to follow the instructions. Extracts all the data fine, then yet again gets stuck on roughly 5%, with the same image shown on the iPod.
Any one have any idea? Or will I have to return it to Apple.
    Thanks.

I also initially had problems updating my iPod Touch 32GB 2G. I also got stuck with the Apple logo and the loading bar. iTunes gave me the message it could not connect with the iPod. I reset the device and tried again. This time I just had the Apple logo and no indication on iTunes that a device was connected. I disconnected the iPod and reset it again.
At this point I thought about the fact that my battery was low and that I was also using a USB hub. I then used an external charger to charge up the battery on the iPod. After that I connected it directly to a USB port on my computer and this time it updated the software with no problem. I don't know if charging the iPod and connecting it directly to the computer made the difference or not. Perhaps as they say, the third time is the charm. So you might just need to try a couple more times. Good luck.
I will also say that the upgrade seems to be a good one. After upgrading my iPod to OS4.0 I was getting several crashes a day and some apps just would not work. I haven't had a lot of time with OS4.1 but I haven't had any crashes since updating and programs that were not working are now working.

  • My iPod Touch 16GB won't charge up more than 50%!?

Well I just bought my iPod Touch 16GB this past Sunday at a Best Buy here in Austin Texas and everything seems to work fine for me EXCEPT I cannot charge the device more than 50%. The battery icon will show up but will never show more than a 50% charge! I have WiFi turned off and the iPodT is connected to one of the USB ports on the back of my Alum iMac and was left there for several hours - with the computer left on! I even had it connected to a Dell machine at work for several hours via USB, no luck there either. I do not have an Apple AC adapter so I can charge it from a power outlet but should that really make a difference and give me a full charge? I guess I should make it known that the iPod's battery was dead when I first opened it but it seemed like it took too many hours to charge halfway. It looks like I may need to take it back. I wonder if Apple will exchange it out as long as I have all my stuff as well as the receipt from BB.
Anyone else having the same problem or are able to fully rechrage their iPodT? Any advise or ideas is appreciated.

Yes, when I press the sleep/wake button down for a few seconds I have the option to turn off the iPod. When I turn it back on and the screen with the icons appear I get a "low battery - 20% of battery remaining message". Nearly about a quarter of power gets drained? Frustrating.

  • When i plug in my ipod touch (8gb, 3rd generation) it doesn't turn on and the apple logo flashes on and off. how can i stop it and turn on my ipod??????

when i plug in my ipod touch (8gb, 3rd generation) it doesn't turn on and the apple logo flashes on and off. before this it wouldn't turn on unless it was plugged in.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod touch 16Gb not working since installing recent O4 upgrade

My Ipod touch 16GB has died !! It stopped during the update when an error message appeared stating unable to SYNC IPOD. Now all I have is a black screen with the Apple Logo, and then a bar appears across the screen underneath the logo as if its trying to install software and show amount of time left. This goes on and on until the battery goes flat !!! Help please

    Hi amit,
Am not sure about an old product but yea i once went to get my earbuds replaced under warranty priod. There was some trouble with it and they replaced it. I asked the guy to give me the other earplugs with mic and i can pay the difference. They told that they can only replace the same product even if you have to pay or not.
May be an apple policy or Imagine own policy but that's what I think we can avail being apple users in India. Check for good places who repair iPod as am sure some do. No offence but I can take the chance of getting my ipod repaired from a third party after using it for a substancial amount of time. We all know its our inner feeling and warranty policies which normally hinders us.
But surely you can call Apple support at 18004250744 or Apple sales 1800 425 4646 and confirm about this policy. Also, you can mail Apple directly and check.
Rest if you want to stick to Apple reseller support itself then i would suggest to add a few more to that $230 amount and get the latest iTouch which now comes even in white and has innumerable new features. But never pay such a hefty amount and get the 1st gen itself.
    Regards,
    Amit

  • Yet Another iPod Touch user with WIFI problem

I have Linksys WRT54GS wifi router setup at home. I use four notebooks, one mac mini and one mobile phone (Nokia N80) without any problem on my wifi network.
The only problem is with my brand new iPod Touch 16GB (firmware: 1.1.2 3B48b - no jailbreak). It always shows an error "Unable to join the network 'MY-SSID-NAME'". I have tried to change SSID, change security settings (WPA, WEP, no security, ...) - but nothing helped. All other devices (notebooks, macmini and phone) always worked like a charm.
iPod worked only once - the first time I used it (after buying). Since then it does not. I have tried all resets, Restore in iTunes, ...
I think it might be a bug in firmware. Please help someone.
BTW: How (an where) can I report a bug to Apple ?

Just like many others, I bought Ipod Touch in Christmas and felt frustrated about surfing the net. I have read many posts in the forum. And I have tried many methods suggested by others to try to figure out the problems. Finally I have solved the problem and I want to share some ideas with others.
    Steps of Checking:
    (1) Check whether you have a wireless network at home or at work. Check whether the network is security protected or not. If it is, better ask the admininistrator (at home, the admin should be the one who bought the wireless router.) for password.
    (2) Check the latest firmware upgrade for the wireless router (in my case, I use Linksys WRT54G. After I upgraded the firmware, my ipod touch could get the necessary IP from the router.)
    (3) For the wireless router, better broadcast the SSID for the first time so that the IPod Touch can find it easily. I use WPA2-Personal Encryption AES (though many buddies here point out that WEP, WPA or even no security is also okay). I even set the MAC filtering and the Ipod Touch still works fine!(though you need to input the MAC address of your Ipod Touch to the MAC filtering table in the admin page of your router. the MAC address of Ipod Touch can be found in the Ipod Touch general information. There is a string like XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
    (4) To mininimize the interference from neighbouring wireless networks, better try the connection near the wireless router.
    (5) If you have tried for several times and failed to connect, you may reset the router by powering off for 15 seconds and reset the network configuration of the Ipod.
I have used Compag IPAQ before and I must say that for those tiny toys with Wifi capability, the connection is not that stable. However, I find that using the Ipod Touch to watch Youtube video is very good and the speed is excellent!
The steps suggested above are not exclusive. There are too many factors which influence the performance of Wifi. Hope you will succeed and enjoy the Ipod Touch in the New Year 2008!
