IPod touch 1G broken after update from 1.1.5 to 3.1.1

Hi!
I hope this is not a doubled entry. I found only similar issues but no solution.
I´ve bought the new OS 3.1.1. (on 1st October) and then updated my iPod touch from 1.1.5 to 3.1.1 with iTunes 9.0.1.
Since then my iPod does only react on one (sometime two) touches and then it is like frozen.
I tried everything but I was not able to repair my iPod.
For example, I tried to go back to version 1.1.5, by clicking Shift + Restore in iTunes and selected the file "iPod1,13.1.1_7C145Restore" in iPod Software Update folder.
I tried this in recovery mode and from DFU mode.
Do you have any idea? In one thread it was mentioned that downgrade from 3.1.1 (which caused problems) to 3.0 was successful. Where do I get an 3.0 ipsw file?
Regards,
Gerald

I'm fairly certain that's incorrect.
http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/software-update.html
At the bottom of the page you'll see which features of 3.1 aren't available for 1st gen touches since they lack bluetooth and peer-to-peer connectivity. Mentioning that at all would imply that the update is meant for 1st gen touches as well.
And 3.0 worked beautifully (for most people, there's always a couple problems), widespread problems didn't start until 3.1.1.
Sorry that I have no answer for you gewi, just had to correct that last poster. You can probably find a 3.0 ispw file somewhere online, if you jumped straight to a higher revision it's not going to be on your computer.

Been trying to restore Ipod touch for days after updating Itunes. Error code #9. Stuck on restore screen. Tried all the solutions posted. Tried on 2 computers, Vista + XP. No device shown on computer. Thanks Apple! Didn't have this problem before update. How about rolling back your update?

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • CANNOT RESTORE MY IPOD TOUCH 1ST GEN AFTER UPDATE, WON'T RESTORE TO PREVIOUS IOS EITHER.  hOW CAN i GET IT TO WORK? TO 3.1.1. IOS

My ipod worked until I purchased teh iOS 3.1.1 update from the apple store.  Now my Ipod touch 1g will not even restore to the original iOs.  How can I get it to update to the 3.1.1 version or restoer it.  It worked fine prior to the update.

Just to give you an update, I got the iOS 3.1.3 installed (Even with the error messages 1602 & 1604). This is how I did it.
    1. Turn off all spyware and antivirus
    2. Open ITunes and purchase iOS and download (don't connect you ipod to the computer yet), don't select download and install. Close itunes after download.
    3. My ipod was frozen with the connector and iTunes symbol in the screen, so I turned it off and with the usb plugged into the computer, hold the home button down (Puts it in recovery mode), now connect the end of the sync cord to the ipod, open iTunes and let it boot up.  You should see the message that it found an ipod in recover and need to be restores. click ok and then select update.
    4.  This is where it will update and freeze again in restore. To continue update, leave the ipod connected (Don't touch it at all.  Close iTunes and then reopen it.  The connection should be made the the update should install.
It worked for me, maybe it will fro yo.

  • IPod Touch Mail crashes after update 3.1.3

    Hi,
It seems that since we updated our iPods Touch (different ones, 2nd Generation) to software 3.1.3, Mail app stopped working. It opens for a few seconds then it crashes. I have reset one of the iPods completely and synced it again, and still the same behavior. Something curious is that I open Mail, delete some messages, it crashes, and Mail shows the same number of new messages, as if I hadn't deleted any, and upon opening the app, yes, there they are. Rest of iPods seem to be working fine.
An older iPod (1st gen) that we have not updated works just fine.
    Any clue or fix?
    Thanks

My iPod does the same, Initially Apple blame the ISP, after much discussion it seems that there is a problem with 3.1.3 but they are reluctant to admit it. Firstly be denying all knowledge of problem then by blaming others. I think the problem is too big for them to admit and they can't fix it in the short term. Some are re-installing old software from net to get over problem, but Apple won't support old software. If any one has found a solution please let me know.

  • IPod Touch name change after updating to 3.1.1

After upgrading from 3.0 to 3.0.1 itunes changed the name oftouch the touch. Why, and is there a way I can change it back?

I experienced the same bug. What is double irritating is that after restoring the name of the iPod, backup in iTunes was starting from scratch, invoking an entire fresh and very long backup of the iPod.
The 3.1.1 update process was for me the most bug-ridden update yet (and I'm updated from 3.x).

  • IPod touch duplicates songs after updates

My I-pod touch duplicates some (not all) songs after every IOS update. The only way I've found to correct this is to restore my I-pod and then synch everything again; very annoying and time-consuming. This occurs even after turing off I-Cloud Match. Any ideas/suggestions?

The only solution is the delete the non-playing songs and resync them or redownload them. Sometimes some files on the iPod get corrupted during and update. You may even have to restore the iPod:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Charging problem on iPod touch 4th generation after updating to iOS 5.1.1

I updated my iOS to 5.1.1 yesterday when I synced some new music onto my iPod touch 4th gen. It worked fine, and charged fine yesterda after the update. I had it plugged in charging until I left, I used it and it die over night. When I went to charge it, it kept coming up with "Charging is not supported with this acsessory" wether it was in the wall, or plugged into my computer. As most windows users will know, when you plug yout iPod into the USb port of the computer it comes up with the Scanner and Camera wizzard. I generally close this, but with my curiosity, I let it stay open (without running the wizzard) and now my iPod is charging from ym computer, as long as this is open. Why does the scanner and camera wizzard need to be open for it to charge? Is there a fix for this? I've seen symillar problems on other iOS devices after upgradign to 5.1.1, so could this problem be because of the iOS update?
Thanks in advance, Alex "Twitch" Brent

  • Ipod touch - no option to update from 3.1.3 to os4

My touch has version 3.1.3, and I would like to update to 4, but when I connect to itunes and go into the summary for my itouch and click update, the message I get is "This version of Itunes (9.1.1) is the current version." Am I trying to do this update from the wrong location? I just don't get it.

Almost sounds like you're trying to update iTunes, not the Touch's OS (though the current iTunes version is 9.2).
If you have a 1st generation Touch, you cannot install iOS 4 and you will not see the option to do so.
If you have a 2nd or 3rd generation Touch, you first need to be running iTunes 9.2 and then you can update the OS while connected to iTunes (click the "Check for Update" option next to your iPod's picture).

  • Can't sync iPod Touch 4th Gen after updating to IOS 6.0

I've updated my 64GB iPod Touch 4th Gen to IOS 6.0, but now I can’t sync it with iTunes.
It connects OK, but iTunes isn’t detecting what is already there - it thinks it is full of 48MB of “Other” (rather than music, apps, photos, etc.). In other words iTunes isn’t detecting what is already on the iPod properly (it just knows it’s nearly full of something).
So if I try to sync, iTunes thinks it needs to add all my music, etc. again, and therefore says it’s way over capacity (i.e. 48MB of “other” + 48 MB of all my music, etc.).
    Help! Any suggestions?

  • Ipod touch not working after update

I just attempted to install the latest iPod touch software update via itunes. It downloaded and started installing and everything seemed normal. Then I got a weird error that said something along the lines of "Could not update ipod. Error 9" Now the ipod won't turn on at all, won't reset, and itunes doesn't recognize it. When I plug it into my pc (where it is synced), I get a windows bubble that pops up saying the device isn't recognized. When I plug it into my mac, nothing happens at all.
    Any suggestions?

Hey everyone. I had this same issue (1st Gen iTouch crashed in the middle of the update with an error, then perpetually showed the USB cable picture and wasn't recognized by my PC).
I was flying West for Thanksgiving, and the prospect of not having my music was so terrifying that out of complete desperation, I borrowed my roommate's Mac to see if I could somehow magically finish the update there. For whatever reason, it worked!
I don't know if it was the fact that it was a Mac, an older version of iTunes, or what, but I was able to do a restore after downloading the new firmware on his computer (I think it was an old Powerbook G4), though I lost all my data. Still, it works now, and I was (thank God) able to listen to it on the plane trip after re-adding my music.
So I wish I could give more details, but at the very least, THERE IS HOPE! Maybe someone more daring and less busy than I can narrow down the variables, otherwise I'll see if I can figure more out when I get back home this weekend. However, I sincerely hope Apple takes responsibility and figures it out themselves before then. Given how serious losing your ability to listen to portable music is for most of us, I really can't believe that they haven't even deigned to address this issue on their own boards.
Anyway, happy Thanksgiving everyone, and hang in there.

  • A friend gave me his iPod touch 4th gen to update from 4.2.1 to ios6.0.1 I don't want this iPod associated with my account. Just want to have the latest software for him. What should I do?

I want to update this iPod without losing all of my friends music and apps. What should I do?

    To update
iTunes 10 for Windows: Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. That requires a Mac with OSX 10.5.8 or later. With 1OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
A 3G to 5.1.1  Requires iTunes version 10.5 or later
A 4G to 6  Requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. That requires a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 or later
    Identifying iPod models
Since you are stuck at 4.2.1 you may have a 2G iPod.
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • Ipod Touch not syncing after Update

I've just restored my Ipod Touch with new software and it's been restored but it won't sync anything other than podcasts and the last album I added to my library.
All the boxes are ticked to sync music, apps, films etc but it's just not doing it.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen after updating to IOS 6.0.1 no longer plays sound when connected to a JVC KW-AV60BT through USB port.

It used to work fine, but now when you plug in to the USB, it properly identifies the head unit in settings>General>About, and the JVC unit displays album art, track info and scrolls through music fine, but no sound comes through the speakers. I've tried to reset all settings on the iPod, I've tried the reset on the head unit, even disconnected the vehicle battery and nothing changes. I can also add that my sisters iPhone 4S on IOS 6.0.1 also performs the same when connected. I've tried my Touch in the USB port of my 2010 Chevy truck and that works fine. oh, and an MP3 player worked proper with the JVC USB port.

So i dont usually update apps that often. But i for some reason wanted to update skype. So i updated it and then went to go on skype with my friends. So i went on a voice call and it turned out they couldent hear me, it wasnt on mute, they didnt put me on mute blah blah. I just want it to work again.
    and going to Privacy>microphone>skype
doesnt work cause the microphone option isnt even there....
