Ipod Touch 1st Big Issue

My 1st Gen Ipod Touch, 16Gb, has been working rather well ever since I acquired it this february. However, ever since I updated it to 2.0 and up, it has been crashing on some applications, which was tolerable until two weeks ago, when it now turns on, and off by itself, everytime I leave it alone. This means that whenever I don't use it, it starts on, and off, in my pocket, pretty much draining up all the battery in just one day..
I have restored it twice now, once put back all the settings I had before, once having ALL my settings put as a factory ipod.
And yet, it still doesn't work normally.
This is as you can imagine very inconvenient, and I can't really use it.
If anyone could help me out with this problem, and try to help me out here, I would be very grateful. This is my 3rd iPod, and I really don't want it to be the third that brakes.
P.S: Using a windows machine w/ ipod. It has never been hurt physically.

If you go to SETTINGS, then then select "Fetch New Data" , make sure "Push" is set to "Off" and "Fetch" is set to "Manually". Then, on the same screen, at the bottom, click on "ADVANCED" and make sure any mail accounts are set to be "Manual" as well. If these settings are different, your iPod will check for mail automatically, thus turning on when it is supposed to check and turning off after a certain amount of time.

Ipod touch 1st gen MAJOR issues HELP!

My hubby dropped his 16gb ipod touch 1st gen on the floor. It landed face down. It was working fine until the battery ran out and since then it will not hold a charge. I reset it last night and it finally charged over night (plugged into the wall) it said it was fully charged this morning but after it was unplugged it was working fine except the internet would not work. It would not connect to our wireless internet. (I have an 8gig second gen that works dandy no issues so i know its not my internet.) He had his ipod on for 20 minutes it got broiling hot and the battery was back at being almost dead. We shut it off let it cool down and then we've had it plugged in all day ( it's plugged in my computer now) and just keeps saying its got 10 minutes remaining on the battery. I restored it twice through itunes and updated it and it still will not charge but will stay on if its plugged in the computer or the wall saying its charging... also the internet still will not work. it will for a few seconds pick up my wireless but with only one bar but will not let me try to connect to it. It tells me it can't connect. Then, the signal comepletely disappears again. It won't find any wireless at all. I even went upstairs and sat in front of the modem lol. I've tried everythihng known to man and am out of ideas. Is the thing screwed? Someone please help....

Sounds like something came loose or exposed. From what i read, it looks like your battery is losing it's charge quickly. My advice would be to take it in to a local apple store and see if they can fix it or run a diagnostic. Unfortunately, if i had to guess i'd say there's a hardware problem since your battery is dying so fast and is having charging problems. Good luck.

Windows 7 ipod touch 1st gen conneting issues

I just got a new Lenovo G550 with windows 7, and whenever i try to connect my ipod touch 1st generation to the computer I here the connecting "ding-dung" but my ipod doesn't charge or isn't recognized by itunes.

My advice would be to take it in to a local apple store and see if they can fix it or run a diagnostic. HT2052 Does anyone have a solution to getting my iPod touch 1st generation to show up in iTunes without having to pay a big service fee for tech support?

I have an iPod touch 1st generation. Up until the last update it was recognized in iTunes and now it will not come up in iTunes at all. Don't feel like I should have to pay $100 every times iTunes updates and there is a problem with it recognizing my iPod. Anyone have any suggestions? I have uninstalled iTunes half a dozen times and done everything they recommended including replacing my USB cable, nothing works.

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

Ipod touch 1st generation won't play on ihome doc

I have a 1st generation ipod touch, 32GB. I received an iHome for Christmas last year that states it is compatible with the 1st generation ipod touch however when I put it in the cradle, it connects and disconnects over and over. I looked and iTunes stated that there were no updates available for my ipod. I thought the iHome was defective so I exchanged it for another one and it does the same thing. The iHome does play with the 2nd generation iPod Nano so I don't think it is an issue with the iHome. Anyone else have this problem and know how to remedy it?

I bought this online as a gift for someone travelling. Cheap so if it gets lost or broken - no big deal BUT was restored to original factory settings. It now has version 3.1.3 on it. I have tried to sync with my iTunes from my phone but it's not being seen.

IPod Touch 1st Generation can't download podcasts

I have an iPod Touch 1st generation, software version 2.2.1 update indicates this is the latest version for my iPod). It has recently lost the ability to downoad podcasts through the iTunes store. I can get to the store, but when clicking on any podcast site the screen shows that it is loading the page but then the device returns to iPod home page. I can purchase and download songs from iTunes, so the problem seems to be unique to podcasts. I have also tested this on several wireless networks so it doesn't seem to be a problem unique to my home network.

IPod Touch 1st Gen Won't Connect To PC or MAC Stuck On iTunes Logo

I have an iPod Touch 1st Generation, I have searched a lot of forums and google and I can not find an actual solution for this...
The ipod is stuck on the itunes logo(connect to itunes to restore), but when you connect it it isn't recognized by itunes. When I plugged it into a PC it "dinged" and popped up a message saying like an "unknown device" message. In the control panel it shows as "unknown device." How can I fix this.
Please don't "answer" this by saying RESTORE it. Can't do that as it doesn't come up in itunes. I've tried the advice on the Apple website; reinstall itunes, delete several files, etc. That didn't work.

I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.

Yes, I have contacted them. They are who told me to try a few of the "fixes". They actually said they had never heard of this error, or any problems relating to his download. Also, when I was talking to them, they came here to this forum to find the answer...:/ This is why I am asking here. I was hoping someone had an idea I hadn't tried already.

Video plays on iPhone 3G, but not iPhone 2G or iPod Touch 1st Gen

Hi all,
We're creating videos to be played on iPhones and iPod touch's. The videos are working fine on my iPhone 3Gs but won't play on my iPod touch 1st gen or a 2G iPhone. I've had a look and the supported video list is exactly the same on all iPhones and iPod touch's so I'm at a bit of a loss.

IPod Touch 1st gen - cannot connect to wi-fi

Hi,
Am having a persistent wi-fi connection problem with my iPod Touch 1st gen, which I just bought second-hand. Any advice gratefully appreciated, as I have not been able to find a solution on the forums so far.
THE PROBLEM
The iPod detects the signal from my home wi-fi router. When I try to connect, it invariably gives the error message "Unable to join the network [name]". I have 2 laptops and an iPhone running on this network with no problems.
TROUBLESHOOTING TRIED
- upgraded to latest version of iTunes
- upgraded to latest version of iPod Touch software
- upgraded to latest version of router firmware
- removed all encryption on wireless signal (no WPA/WEP etc enabled)
- reset wireless settings on iPod
- removed all content from iPod & did a full restore & resync

I had the same trouble for about a year. Tried everything. This finally did it-
settings-wifi-other
manually enter network name, select WEP for security
enter password once network found
After this, the network address field was still initially blank, I toggled back and forth, then the address info just appeared, all good after that!
Everything else was a waste of time
It may help to clear Safari history and cache first (mine happened to be cleared after the unsuccessful reset}
Apple called it a hardware issue, and wanted me to send it in. Repair cost was near or more than replacement cost. This all started after 2.2.1 update - my best assumption was that the update over-clocked the wifi, and fried it. That didn't make sense to me, as it could still show the networks.
Hoe this helps you. The itouch was running 3.1.3 when I tried this last night.

“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”

Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!

P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.
