  • IPod touch 4,1 bricked after upgrading to iOS 6.0 and then 6.0.1.

    Hi all
I have an iPod touch 4th generation, 8GB. The other week I installed the new iOS 6.0 software update, from 5.1.1. after installing and rebooting the iPod just when black, I have assumed that it's been bricked, but how? It just stays black, sometimes it'll reboot, but then go black again, sometimes it'll do the infinite loop of death! Then I force it into Recovery mode, clicked Restore and after iTunes extracing the IPSW, it came back with error -1 ????? So I put it into DFU mode, then iTunes showed that iOS 6.0.1 was released. iTunes downloaded it, i put it into DFU mode and then restore to the new 6.0.1, and then everything goes well, untill it does the same as before, when I upgraded to 6.0?
I know I can't downgrade back to 5.1.1, Apple had stopped signing old ipsws, but I do however have my previously saved SHSH blobs, I can patch them onto my 5.1.1 ipsw, but I don't know weather that's illegal or not. SO, basically, my iPod is unusable.
    Troubleshooting - what I've done:
-I've deleted the 6.0 and 6.0.1 and being promted to download them again in iTunes, still didn't work
-I've tried reinstalling iTunes, current version 10.7, I run weekly Apple Software updates to get the lastest
-I've tried using different USB cords, Apple 30-pin connector cords, don't know if that was necessary
    What Haven't done:
    -Never Jailbroken this iPod
-Never moderated, read, write or execute any iPod software or any of the Raw system files
My iPod was just fine before all this crap happened, I depend on it for everything, although the Capacity isin't great, and the RAM is just ****, please someone help :'(

This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. Note the article includes :"the device may need service".:

  • Ipod Touch, 1st generation crashed during upgrade to v3.1.3 software

I have just paid to upgrade the software on my 1st generation Ipod touch. The software seems to have downloaded to my itunes, but some sort of error message occured during the download, and my ipod has crashed. The screen is locked on an image of an apple icon with a download progress bar half way filled. I can't turn the ipod on or off. When I plug it into the computer, it recognizes that a device is there, and it allows me to sync my ipod, but the screen remains unchanged. Does anyone have any idea on what I can do to fix this?
    Thanks!

I am continuing to have problems with getting my ipod touch restored. I am following the directions on the faq's but it seems that my touch continues to freeze up during the restoring nprocess. Itunes continues to sync, but the ipod screen remains unchanged.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Generation Won't Upgrade to iOS 4

I know that this board is slammed with questions on the matter, but I have looked every where else and talk to other people with the same ipod I have and they all repot no issues. When I try to upgrade to the new iOS 4 I get an "Unknown Error -23" I have no clue what this means, and I have not been able to find support on the Apple website about it. I have tried using a different computer, a different user account, deleting restoring first, and nothing seems to work. At first I thought it might be server issues on Apple's end, but I have a whole slew of friends for whom the upgrade worked first go around. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd guess its on Apple's end too.
I first tried to upgrade last night around 6pm EST. It told me 3 hours. I x'd out of that and came back around 11 pm and it took about 10 minutes.
I think they're a bit overloaded - with both downloads and support now.

  • IPod Touch 1st generation won't start up after hard reset

My iPod Touch 1st generation stopped working after I clicked "Erase all contents & settings". It won't start unless I hold the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button together. Then I get the Apple Logo but after a short time a wheel appears just below the logo which never disappears. I have pressed those 2 buttons while the iPod is plugged in to a power source & left it overnight but the wheel still doesn't disappear & nothing further happens. Any suggestions?

  • Ipod touch 1st generation w/ upgraded software

I have an ipod touch 1st generation w/ upgraded software.  I bought the game Angry birds to play, but when I click on the icon, it turns black as though the game is going to load, but it doesn't instead it goes back to original screen.  Any suggestions???

    - Try resetting the iPOd.  Nothing will be lost:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try deleting the app and redownloading/installing the app.

  • Upgrading Ipod Touch 1st Generation

I have an Ipod Touch 1st Generation, and wish to upgrade it so I can sync apps. At the moment, it has the software version 1.1.5. I realize I need to upgrade to the version 2.2.1 but whenever I click 'check for update', Itunes tells me that there are no upgrades available. I have downloaded the most recent Itunes upgrade and am really confused as to why it's not allowing me to buy an upgrade.

  • Help! ipod touch 1st generation cannot be recognized by iTunes

    Hi there,
I tried to upgrade my ipod touch (1st generation) using itunes, but it failed. I forgot the error code. After that, my ipod touch cannot be recognized by iTunes any longer. Every time when I open the ipod touch, it shows the graph of a CD and an ipod touch cable, looks like this:
    Music CD
    /|\
    Cable
Is there any way to make it recognized by iTunes? Thanks a lot.

Thank you. That symbol appeared in my ipod touch. I tried to uninstall itunes and reinstall it. But it does not help. Also tried the one mentioned in "Restart iPod touch" in that link, it does not work either.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • How do i get my ipod touch 1st generation to work like normal?

hey i got an ipod touch 1st generation and i recently upgraded my software but my ipod is always in recovery mode and when  i restore it with new software it work just fine for about 20mins then  i goes back to recovery mode and dont wanna charge or come on. what should i do?

If the problem occurs after you restore it to factory defaults/new iPod then it is likely a hardware problem.  I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod Touch 1st Generation General Questions.

I just read where the 1st generation Ipod Touch cannot upgrade software past 3.1.3. SO I assume all of the Apps I have seen and some I have downloaded that state I need newer software are not useable on the Touch I have?
Oh man it appears I got something which is basicaly useless other then playing music like my Ipod Nano can do.
Can I load any Books on the Ipod Touch?
Where can I get information as to what the limits I have with this Ipod Touch 1st Generation so I can get an Idea of what I can do and what I cannot do so I am not sitting trying to achive something that it is not capable of?
I also do not want to irritate the heck out of the community by asking questions or trying to fix errors I think I have when in reality my Ipod is not designed to do the task in the first place.
I do see Wifi on my Ipod Touch but it does not appear to connect even when I use the correct password so I assume it is limited or has to have a Specific Security setup in teh Router to connect properly and would like th know that.
I read some of the Software 3.1 Manual but it does not really go into detail as far as wifi connections just the bare basics which I know I did correct.
I am thinking that it cannot connect to WPA/WPA2 Security and I will have to Dummy down my Wifi Security to accomidate the Ipod Touch is this correct and where can I get this Information also?
I bought this Used and have no Box or any Information about it at all.
    Thanks again

One if you can find an app that support the book format. Many book are available in non-DRM pdfs and I think you can find an app that will read pdfs. As you likely know, iBooks is not compatible with the 1G

I know of no such document or site.

    For wifi problem:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router.
    - Reset networks settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
The last should identify what encryption works with the 1G.

  • My iPod touch 1st Generation won't turn, charge or appear on my computer

I have an ipod touch 1st generation that I got about 4 years ago. I don't use it that often because I now have an iPhone but when I went to use it, I found it was dead. It won't charge, turn on or appear on my computer or itunes. I've tried recovery and DFU mode but neither work, since it won't turn on at all. I've tried charging it for almost a whole day but it won't even show me a red battery charging icon. I've tried holding the home and power buttons for several minutes while its plugged in but still nothing. My cord is fine and works with other ipod and i have the newest version of itunes.I have a windows 7 computer. I don't live near enough to an apple store to take it in for them to look at and it's no longer under warrenty and it costs $20 for a one time support session online!! Is there anything i can to fix it without spending too much money or should i just accept its dead and not recovering?

Try the remaining iTunes of the following. I think you covered all but the last.:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Touch 1st Generation stopped charging and sync.

Hi, I have an iPod Touch 1st Generation that I bought in november 2007(just when it came to the stores) and now, 4 years lates it started to present some problems, first, it stoped to sync with the iTunes, then my computer(mac and PC) stoped reconizing it and now it stoped to charge, as in computer as in the wall. I don't know if it's important but I tryed to install Installer (the old and hacker store with some poor apps) but I coudn't, and an weird app called Zibri's Blog is in it and I can't erase... I can't restart my iPod... actually I can't do ANYTHING! And I love my iPod, I don't want to buy another one now... Is there ANY kind of solution or someone else have ever saw something like this? Pleeeease help me... My e-mail is [email protected]

After charging the iPod for a couple of hours, place the iPod in DFU moade and they connect to your computer and try to restore via iTunes.

  • Ipod touch 1st generation battery lifespan?

how long does the average lifespan of the ipod touch 1st generation last? ive had mine since around the time it first came out, i havnt noticed any loss in battery life at all but i was just wondering how long it would take before i would actually have to replace the battery, and if i have to send it in to replace the battery will anything happen to my songs/apps/videos/pictures?

The music is stated by apple to last 22 hours on a full charge for music and 5 hours for movies. The battery efficiency goes down to 80% after about 400 cycles, but your battery could bust at any time, but don't worry about it. It'll be awhile till your battery has to be replaced. If you replace the battery it won't effect any of the content on your iPod as long as it's all on iTunes.
