IPod Touch 2.0.2 update - can it be reversed?
I have had my 16GB iPod Touch for several months and it's benn running 1.1.4 very well. I am hesitant to try updating to 2.0 because of the many comments of problems. I know most have had not one problem, but it would seem with this technology there should be almost NO problems.
My question is , can I easily revert to 1.1.4 or 1.1.5 if I run into problems?

Once you go from 1.x.x to 2.x.x you cannot revert to 1.anything.
I can tell you I'm running 2.0.0 on my iPod touch without any problems, and it's currently syncing with a 4 year old Mac Mini.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
Now just synch the iPod. -
I'd like to update the ISO 4.2.1 on an old iPod Touch to ISO 7. Can't find "Software Update" option under General Setting. Where might I look for the option to slightly upgrade the ISO for this device?
You likely have a 2G iPod and those can go higher than 4.2.1
A 3G can go to 5.1.1
IA 4G, with cameras can go to iOS 6.1.6.
The 5G, also with cameras can go to iOS 8

I am trying to transfer songs from my iPod touch to my computer and can not figure out how to do it. I also want to transfer the songs I have back in to iTunes. My hard drive went out on my computer and I lost all of my songs, except for on my iPod. I have an iPhone as well and did an update and it wiped out all of my songs. Someone please help me.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer for just such an occasion. use your backup copy to put everything back. -

Download RecBoot and see if that will kick it into recovery mode, so your computer sees it and you can do a restore.

These are the apps that I know that supports iOS 4.2...... get these before the their next updates.
Some of these apps may be laggy but still playable.
BUT IF YOU DO UPGRADE TO BETTER IPOD...... I would get the iTouch 4g OR 5g because of iOS 6 and use of camera and better graphics. -

A 1G iPod can go to iOS 3.1.3
A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. That requires a Mac with OSX 10.5.8 or later. With 1OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
