IPod Touch 2G 3.1.1 bug No Music in the Library

I was shocked when I saw the music library of my iPod Touch, my music files were all erased from the library but the free space is still the same and no videos erased. I am sure that I did not pressed the option to erase anything from the iPod.
Just connect your iPod to your PC and it will update your music library.

I am having the EXACT same problem and am very glad to have found this forum with the solution. I just now noticed that I have No music and No videos on my iTouch, even though the physical space is still reserved for them on the hard drive, after doing the exact same thing.
I was downloading a few podcasts on through iTunes on my device and then switched over to the Music app to see if I had already downloaded the podcast that I was about to download. This is when the app "crashed" and displayed the "Updating Library" message as previously mentioned. I didn't think anything of it at the time and finished downloading my podcasts... Well, sure enough my library isn't there even though the space is still reserved.
Basically the Music app crashed and creates an database error in the Music app and so it is unable to find your songs or videos.
This is clearly an error on the iTouch software and should be addressed by Apple, if they'll ever look here and see it. This problem can easily be re-created by following the above steps and I'm sure that the Apple tech debug software will show that the Music App song and video database has been corrupted, and hopefully a fix can be made to the software and prevent this in future software releases.
I do not have my laptop with me here and am REALLY hoping that my corrupt database will be fixed by a simple sync. I will be really ****** if I have to erase and re-install all that stuff. Here's hoping for an easy fix.
Thanks again for all the help, and hopefully someone from Apple will see this and fix the problem with a future software release.
