It doesn't even show the dialog box that says it will not charge. The battery makes no noticeable change on the iHome when it's supposed to be charging.
This could possibly indicate that no electrical charge is making it to the 30-pin dock connector on the iHome. Have you tried charging it on other similar iHome models (if any are available to you)? It could be your iHome, not your iPod. I would also try charging different iPods/iPhones (if any are available for you to test) on your iHome. If no compatible models receive any charge, it is probably due to some electrical/wiring fault in your iHome, to which I would suggest going to the place of purchase or manufacturer of your iHome to see what they can do.
The only other thing that I can think of is a recent update that you have installed on your iPod Touch that may have killed the ability for your iPod to charge on your iHome. Did you download and install any updates between the time that your iPod charged off the iHome and the time that it stopped working? I do not recall any instances of this happening, but it's still a possibility. When some of the newer iPhone and iPod models came out, older chargers became useless to anyone that upgraded their iPhones/iPods. Anyone that had a non-Apple legacy charger (such as a car charger) had to buy a new, approved and compatible charger. But you said that your iPod was indeed compatible with your iHome and that it did at once charge off of it.
A possible fix that I would recommend is a restore of the iPod. All data on your iPod will be lost if you do this, so make sure that you sync and backup your iPod before restoring so that you can restore from the backup of your iPod and everything will be synced back at the end of the restore.

  • How much space does the 4th gen iPod touch 8GB actually have?

I'm considering buying the new 4th gen iPod touch but am not sure whether to get 8GB or 32GB (wish they had 16GB). My 2nd gen iPod is 8GB, but only has 6.8GB available according to the about tab. I'm down to about 500MB, and am about to import 1GB of music. I'll pick and choose for now (70% I don't listen to anyways). But does anyone know how much available space there actually is for the new 4th gen iPod touch 8GB (I know 32GB is plenty big )?
If it's not worth it, I won't buy it, but mine is having a few problems and I would like a new one that I know is fine instead of refurbished w/ the battery needing replaced (and a camera would be nice).

I do use it a lot for games...they tend to be larger files. My songs are whatever my dad buys and whatever I buy. Once I import this big batch of songs I will be at 700 songs and then will only add more when Dad or I buy them. I make a lot of money for a high schooler but my mom doesn't like how much I spend on iTunes (she's not into music the way I am). I don't want to have to pick and choose on which apps I have on my iPod. Songs, I can pick and choose if necessary. I just hate running low on available space.

  • My new ipod touch - how actually it syncs contacts and calend events?

    hello,
I have finally my ipod touch. I really like it, not perfect of course but then if it would be , would be boring isnt it ?
It syncs well with my outlook contacts but i dont know..
does it overwrite my outlook with info on my touch? or it overwrite my touch with info on outlook ? or it completes both with new info i add?
like if i cancel a contact on my touch will it be cancelled next time i sync in my outlook? or the cancelled contact would go back to my touch from outlook?
I think you understand .... what i dont understand .. how it works..
Also , is there any way that my pictures wouldnt get transformed to super small size.... as quality gets worst...lot worst
Another question about the sound quality....which is just ok .....
would other earphones then the apple ones improve the sound?
Thank you so very much for your answers

  • Registering an ipod touch that went 1 month without backup?

Daughter got brand new ipod for 13th bday. I set it up for her on her brand new email and brand new apple ID. and opted out of icloud and registering at first. She went to town on wifi, lots of apps, took pictures, created artwork, loves her ipod for 1 month. Never used itunes for anything, she was able to do everything she wanted without itunes. But then... I bought her some songs for an upcoming road trip. They went into the iTunes library, great. When I plugged in her ipod to synch them, no device appeared in itunes. Windows sees it, but gives it the same name as her older sister's ipod which is weird because older sister still uses that ipod which is not connected. I realized I bought songs into my itunes acct (so that's 3 apple ids for 3 ipods, all running on 1 windows PC) so I'm bound to get beiber fever now. So I sign my apple id out of itunes and sign back in with her apple id to re-purchase the same songs again. Live and learn, us android guys are dumb like that. So now I'm signed into iTunes with her apple id, I still see the cool 80's songs ripped from my CD's, the new purchased beiber songs, and older sister's purchased songs too, but I'm signed in with the youngest's apple id, I don't get that, but will research how all the apple DRM works some other weekend when I have time. With her ipod connected there were still no devices listed in the left column of itunes,so I stopped/started the Apple Mobile service and restarted itunes and it popped up so I'm thinking now I can drag/drop songs to it. But no, it wants me to register the ipod now.
    Here's my question:
Only options are "set up as new ipod" or "restore from backup". There is no backup for this newest ipod since purchasing and using it, but I see backups available for me and the older daughter. I figure those are bad choices. "Set up as new ipod" sounds bad to me as well, it sounds like all the photos, apps and saved files will be lost. So only option is to exit itunes. I have searched this forum and manuals but can't determine if "set up as new" is going to blow away all data on the device that was used prior to resigtering and make it a factory-fresh device with all the data wiped clean. I know I mentioned I'm an android guy, but don't hate, I do own an ipod touch. Actually it's my 2nd ipod, my classic went PVS. I'm just new to multiple users, DRM roadblocks, and this problem of using the ipod before registering it. Thanks for your time. No rush. Road trip is in a few days.

Take it to the store and find out.  I wouldn't want to give you any confidence.

  • I want to use my original iphone as an ipod touch but it does not see any wifi

For a long time, my iphone would see my home network intermittently, but it would always drop the signal. I have been searching the web to try to find a way to resolve this issue. Recently the wifi connectivity seems to have gone completely out.
I just want to allow my kids to use it as an ipod touch.

I actually performed a complete restore on the phone, but it did not work.  I then took the phone in to the Apple genius bar, and they diagnosed it to have damaged wifi hardware. Thank you all for your suggestions.

  • Ipod touch 4.0 problems!

Hey guys, i bought my ipod November 2009. I downloaded 4.0 the other day and i am unable to change the background image on my home page, does anyone have any similar problems? or a solution?
Also it says my ipod is 3rd generation, but its only an 8gb model, so i am unsure.
    Thanks.

The "Third Generation" 8GB iPod Touches are actually Second Generation, so they don't get background image support. Sorry!

  • Retrieving everything from my iPod Touch

Ok, i've searched these forums to know how to retrieve
my itunes library, without any decent answer.
My hdd crashed, a bad thing, but i was a lucky guy and retrieved all 'my documents'
now, with a full speed, steady and fresh Windows xp professional,
i came across the problem of 2500 songs being in my back-up of documents, which i want
to have in my library too ofcourse.
    I can't sync my ipod...no fun
here are 2 positive things :
my iPod Touch's still got all songs
i found some library files from my back-up documents (might be library back-up?)
how can i get my songs back without trouble?
    Thx in advance!
this is the second time that i post this...itunes recognises my ipod as 'iPod Touch' while the name used to be 'Ollii's iPod Touch', which actually still is the name of my iPod if i look it up on the device itself..
i might just need to get everything copied from my ipod touch to my library (really, everything)

iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
Purchased applications can be downloaded over again, see this article for details: How to redownload purchased applications from the App Store
For everything else (music from CDs etc.) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.
A selection of iPod/iPhone to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
One last thing, if your iPod is set to sync automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok before connecting your device.
Once you have recovered everything from the iPod and your iTunes library has been rebuilt it will be safe to sync again.

  • Questionable 8gb 3rd generation iPod Touch advertising

I picked up a 8GB iPod Touch this past weekend from CompUSA which was marketed as a 3rd generation unit. It wasn't until after Tuesday when I got back home when I realized something wasn't right when a handful of programs refused to install or run properly. I ended up speaking with Apple tech support and found out that my iPod Touch was actually a 2nd generation unit. I haven't been following the device very closely so I wasn't even there were no such things as 8GB 3rd Generation units. Has anyone else run into this problem?
I double checked the labeling on the bottom of the packaging said it was a 3rd generation unit which from what I learned is impossible since they don't exist. It was just a 2nd generation unit with iOS 4.0 installed on it.

At this point my dilemma is I've been unable to find the receipt so far for the unit to return it right now and I'd also have to deal with a 2 1/2 hour drive to just return the device. I also have to deal with a %15 restocking fee too since I opened the packaging. So all in all I'm losing either way at the moment. I've heard nothing from Apple after I was told to send them a feedback with my contact info regarding the situation. I'm tempted to just sell the unit and cut my loses at this point. Any helpful suggestions?

Here are some part numbers from MacTracker.
    2nd generation 8GB iPod Touch.

  • Ipod Touch Stuck on the Apple reboot screen, please help!

Ok, So I was using my ipod touch. Actually I was downloading something as well as deleting some pictures of my ipod.
Eventually it froze up so I had to put it on reboot mode. So after about half an hour I started to notice that it had lasted way longer than usual, however I let it continue for another hour until the battery ran out. Even after the battery ran out and I plugged it into my computer it stays on the apple screen and therefore my iTunes refuses to recognize my iPod.
    What can I Do?
    P.S.
At times it acts like it is ab out to finally fix itself yet it just goes to black and then back to the apple screen.
I even left it charging all night and it was still in the same screeen. The only time it changes is to show me that it is out of battery

  • Refurbished Ipod Touch (8GB) 2G screen not flushed

I just got my refurb (1st Apple product!) yesterday and everything looks find except the screen. When I look at it from the bottom view, I can see the screen not totally flush with the bezel/case. The left side is fine, but the right side is sticking out (1/11 of an inch). From the bottom view, the screen looks tilted. In the dark, I played a video and didn't see lights showing on the right border, so I guess it's not sticking out that much. Still, I want to know if it's a common issue on the Ipod Touch (Refurbished or all?) and if it's worth replacing (How to do that as well)?
    Thank you

There is no 8GB 3rd gen iPod touch (or actually there is no difference between the 2G and the 3G 8GB models).
Only the 32GB & 64GB iPod touch were updated.

  • Ipod touch 5 recognized by Itunes, but won't actually sync

    Hi ~
I recently updated my itunes and ipod software. Now, my ipod touch 5 does not sync correctly. I go through all the motions of syncing my ipod, and itunes said it synced with my ipod, but I do not see the changes on my actual ipod. It is like there is a disconnect between my ipod and itunes, even though itunes thinks is has synced my ipod. None of my new playlists have transferred over to my ipod, and none of my new music from CDs has transferred either. My purchased music is fine of course.
Also, when I do sync my ipod, the little explanation of what's going on during the sync seems odd. It never says the items that it is transferring. All it desribes are "photos," "looking for apps to update," and "waiting to apply new changes." Nothing about music. This seemed odd to me because this was not like this before I updated, when I got a detailed description of the music that was being transferred.
Help please! I have tried rebooting my ipod, restarting itunes, authorizing my computer again, and re-syncing my entire library. The itunes software recognizes all of these changes, but not the ipod.
    Thanks ~

Carolyn, does actually work? I've heard people tried that with no changes after. :(

  • Why is my iPod touch able to see my iMac as a wireless router but can't actually share the connection properly?

So I've set up Ethernet Internet Sharing via my iMac, and my iPod Touch and other devices can see the network. I type in the password, it succeeds but instead of a tick appearing I get the grey loading wheel forever. Why can I 'connect' to the network but not actually gain internet access? I've even tried no password and the same thing happens.
    Thanks for your time.

i have same problem if i close sharing and reoopen my sharing i get a 1-5 minute connection

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then see if placing the iPod in airplane mode when in standby helps.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

[Music files are still there, and I can play them on my computer directly from the iPod [just one track at a time] but not in the usual way, through headphones.]
On the Summary page of iTunes for the iPod, it shows 50-plus gigabytes of "Other" content and no music, which was not previously the case.  I assume this is related to the problem.
I can bring up individual tracks on the iPod and see cover art, but cannot play the music.

iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. (I've posted my question/plea for help here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19735862 )
I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

  • If you have a video in camera roll on the ipod touch is it only videos taken with the actual ipod or is it possible to transfer videos from your computer to the camera roll?

If you have a video in camera roll on the ipod touch is it only videos taken with the actual ipod or is it possible to transfer videos from your computer to the camera roll? The ipod touch was bought in feb. 2011

You can transfer videos from your computer to the iPod Touch, but not to the Camera Roll.
The Camera Roll is for temporary storage only - for photos/videos captured by the iPod Touch and for photos saved from a received email or from a website. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
