Ipod touch 2g freezing after unlocking

My ipod touch is freezing and having many issues right after I unlock it.
Usually it locks up and the screen and both buttons become un-responsive.
I end up having to hold both buttons down to restart, but it just freezes again right after unlocking.
What advice do you guys have?
It's 4 months old and has had relatively low use. I have a 2 year old Second Gen that's working perfectly.

First I would restore from backup via iTunes to see it that fixes problem
Next would be to restore to factory defaults, also via iTunes, and then sync.
If those do not solve problem I would say it is a hardware problem and you should either call AppleCare or make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store

  • Ipod touch 3G freezing after 4.2

I updated my 3G, never-jailbroken iPod Touch to iOS 4.3.1 a few weeks back, and 4.3.2 maybe a week ago. Things seemed to have improved since 4.2 because it was having some issues with the wifi never connecting and other minor but annoying OS-only issues (apps worked fine). Then I upgraded to 4.3.1 and it started freezing every once in a while. The main problem seemed to be if you tried to do things too quickly, namely opening the Settings app and trying to touch WiFi or any other option in there without giving it 2-3 seconds to settle on that screen first. Also happens when you just open an app and get a push notification (the Alert type). It's like there's a problem in the way it handles memory. With 4.3.2 coming out so close to 4.3.1 I figured they had found that problem and fixed it, but alas it only got worse. Now all the apps have this same memory issue instead of just the OS-specific apps, and it's not only tapping apps too fast anymore either. Now it even freezes while it's sleeping in my pocket (perhaps due to another notification of some kind, but because I have to reboot it to get it working again, I don't get that notification).
I have already tried all the standard troubleshooting steps (Restart, Retry, Restore). When the device freezes I have to do a hard restart (hold Lock and Home buttons together for 10secs), but it happens at least 2-3 times daily. Was looking around online to see if there was a way to downgrade back to 4.2 until Apple gets it's stuff together, but found out the only way is basically to jailbreak it, and I don't see why that's the only way to get it working like it was before Apple fouled it up.
They really ought to make downgrades available without having to restore, not to mention testing their OS updates more thoroughly before pressuring them on the general public with constant popups and warnings every time you sync. I had come to trust their developers after they figured out folders and all that jazz in 4.0, but now it seems as though they are either getting overzealous in their work, or are getting overworked in Steve Jobs' zeal.

I too am having issues with IOS 4.x after constant requests to upgrade iPod software in iTunes. Things started going wrong around 4.3.2 with the iPod freezing and not connecting or syncing with iTunes. Followed all the help and ended up doing a restore and an upgrade to 4.3.3. Now when it works and you are listening to music it has random pauses in the music. When it doesn't work it hangs and won't turn on or off. Ending up pressing the 2-button combination to get it back to restore again, loosing all my data and resulting in a lengthy sync that usually freezes. My iPod is basically useless and I can't back install an older IOS that worked. Really annoyed with my iPod being rendered unusable by the updates that don't seem to be compatible with my 3G Ipod Touch. I'm hoping a new update will be made available and I can get things back to normal, then I'm never going to upgrade the OS again!!

  • IPod Touch 4g freezes, unfreezes after lock/unlock

My iPod touch 4g freezes after a while when you're doing nothing.
e.g. If you keep swiping to different app pages, it won't freeze. But once you stop and pause for a while, it freezes.
Then when i lock it, and unlock it, the touchscreen works again. And then it's back to the above problem.
Is this a problem with the digitizer? Or is it a software problem?
(iPod Touch has been jailbroken a few times, but is currently factory restored in an attempt to solve the problem.)

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store if still problem since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod touch sync freezes

iPod touch sync freezes at calendar sync, wired or wireless. Have rebooted computer and restored ipod to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help. After running "Activity Monitor" and going through the iTunes/iPod Touch sync process I was able to determine the suspect application that most likely caused the conflict.
While watching "Activity Monitor" almost immediately an application called "CNQL1208_ButtonManager" crashed - locking up the computer. I was able to determine by checking out a few bulletin boards that this application is the culprit in more than one problem on both Macs and Pc's. It's an app that gets loaded at start-up, which monitors the buttons on the front of my Canon Scanner (Model LiDE 35). Part of the CanoScan software download/driver for this model. I trashed this file and everything appears to work fine. In fact, the sync with my iPod touch seems to happen much faster.
The other possibility is that there was a conflict with PalmBackground Monitor, but this doesn't appear to be the case.
Thanks again for the Activity Monitor suggestion.

JWhy not just restore from the last backup you have?
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod touch not working after data erase

I have an iPod Touch 1st generation. Although it is old it always worked perfectly. It was until I put "erase all data" in the iPod settings when it stopped working. I'm not sure of what I did. I was expecting to erase only songs, apps, videos, photos, etc... but now I don't know if I erased some important software that makes the iPod work. The ipod always turn on when I charge it, but I only see the white apple and the sign that is loading. I'll be glad if you help me on this!

Sadly, I too am having problems here...I recieved apple error 2330 sometime after the Fall...I have been trying to sleuth and work my way around all this mumbo jumbo for months!
    1) I cannot properly use iTunes for some reason
    2) I erased the data in my ipod Touch (1st generation) manually via the iPod Touch, and right after I did this, it gave me the Apple logo with the slash and the spinning progress wheel that users above mentioned...
