IPod Touch 2G not in recovery mode, but shows recovery screen

So, I was trying to get the iPod recovered to 4.2.1, but when I tried updating, it said "This iPod can not be restored" So I thought that was it, but then the iPod stayed at the recovery screen, but it wouldn't be recognized by iTunes. It also isn't in the actual recovery mode. I already went through the Apple Express Lane, but it didn't help at all. Anyone have some advice???

I've tried to put it in DFU, but it wouldn't work.. It would just go back to the screen and the iPod would still not be recognized by iTunes. Any other solutions?
EDIT: After restarting my computer, it still doesn't show in iTunes, but at least Windows recognizes the USB now...

how would i put my iPod Touch in recovery mode if the screen says''iPod is disabled connect to iTunes

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • Battery removed from ipod touch, will not complete recovery

the battery died a long time ago on my ipod touch 32gb, think it is 1st or 2nd gen, when i plug the ipod in it still lights up and works but asks me to plug it into itunes, when i do that itunes says i need to restore it but when i start the restore process the apple logo reappears on the ipod then it dies and i get an error message from itunes, usually unknown error 1604 or 1603, sometimes 1611. all i want to do is leave my ipod plugged into a dock to play music without the ipod having a battery will this work, surely there must be a way if it's still showing the screen when plugged in

hi thanks for your reply, i tried all of the things on this page already and still no luck, itunes goes into preparing ipod for recovery, the screen on the ipod switches from telling me to connect to itunes, to the apple logo for about 10-20 seconds then the screen on the touch dies and the update either fails or just sticks on preparing bar
    really quite annoying this

  • Hello my question is how can i get this circle off my ipod touch its not letting me go on my lock screen i try restoring it but itunes wont let my restore it

Please answer my question, I really need my iPod Touch back.

    First try a reset:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.
If that doesn't work, try a restore again. If necessary, place the iPod in Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Ipod touch will not turn on past the black apple screen

my ipod is an older gen (not sure which-before they added the camera) adn it will not turn on past the black screen with an apple. i have tried holding the home and lock button for 10+ seconds. i have also tried charging it haha.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have been on the phone to Itune support for about 30hours++ . I have been reissued a new Ipod touch but this problem is reoccuring.
I registered my new Ipod touch under another account but I have activated home sharing on my computer.
Can anyone suggest anything that Apple support cannot solve Thanks

What happens when you try to connect to the Wi-Fi? Any error messages? Have you tried a hard reset of the iPod?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • IPod Touch 4G, not connecting to safari, but WiFi icon is full blue!

I got an iPodTouch 4G today and I am having problems connecting to safari. The 'wifi' icon in the top left hand corner is full blue, so I am unsure of where I am going wrong!?!? I am becoming very annoyed

In the details of your WiFi connection what is listed for the IP address?
If it starts with 169 then it is self-assigned and your router is not giving your iPhone a LAN IP address. You will not be able to access the internet.
This problem might be resolved by simply restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds).
If you need more help please give the make/model of your router and some details of how it is configured, i.e., security type (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • The Music app on my ipod touch will not open?

The Music app on my ipod touch will not open, it loads but the sceen is always blank and then closes the music app and goes back to my list of apps.. what do i do? any ideas?

I have the same problem since a couple days ago, I will try to refrain from swearing or slagging on Apple, got a few questions for you, Gerbrandt, or anyone else who's had this problem and worked around it by means of a 3rd party app:
1-Since using panamp have you used your ipod in any docks successfully? (ex: I have a JVC car deck, a Klipsch dock and the Yamaha dock for my home theatre, all will be worthless if I can't resurrect my iPod as a music player)
2-Has using panamp done anything to help the original Apple music app to work or has it stayed dead?
3-Do you have any smart playlists?  Like others with the 64GB model I have many many songs (that's the WHOLE point of the large capacity iPod, isn't it?) and I found that the more smart playlists I had the worse the apple music app behaved back when it was still working.
I'll check out panamp tonight, hopefully that will stop me from curb-stomping my iPod.
Anyone know whether an Apple "genius" has access to any sort of debugging facilities that would make it worth visiting the store for help on this matter?  (ex: if they have root access to check for corrupt song database, or debug logs of some sort, or can do any direct manipulation of commands over the dock connector).
It sure would be nice to know why this happens, I have about 14,000 songs locked in iTunes now and many hours of time invested in ripping my CD collection but I don't want to buy a replacement iPod only to have this happen to it too.  It's annoying enough the 4 hours it takes to resynch after a system restore (which in the end did nothing to resolve the original issue).
