IPod Touch 2G sound test - 2G Touch owners please read

I need a favor from you guys. If those of you with 2G Touches could put this song on it and listen to it through your headphones, and tell me whether you hear a crackling sound during the first fifteen seconds or so, I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to determine whether the crackling I'm hearing is because my Touch is faulty or it's normal for Touches to do this. Thanks!

Well, after sending my iPod off to the Apple repair depot, they have reported that as far as they can tell there is nothing wrong with it. This is ******** as evidenced by MBPBo's report, as well as that of someone's on another forum, so it looks like I'm taking it back to the Apple Store and raising a stink until they give me a new one.

  • IPod will not turn on/passcode error. Please read for more info.

I am trying to fix my friend's iPod Touch 2G 8GB. It will not turn on but I have gotten it to slightly connect to iTunes. This message keeps appearing "iTunes could not connect to the iPod because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." However, I cannot enter a passcode because the iPod does not come on.
I did get the iPod to show up in iTunes once and I restored the iPod, but after it finished restoring I could not get it to show up in iTunes and it still will not turn on. It just keeps giving me the passcode error over and over again.
The iPod also does not show up in My Computer, nor will it charge/turn on on my Logitech iPod dock or Playstation 3.
I was wondering what I should do to try and fix this issue and get the iPod back in working order. I'd appreciate any help possible!

Can't you bypass the passcode if the iPod is connected in recovery mode(DFU Mode)
Is it ok if the files on the iPod are lost?
Also, reinstalling the firmware isn't guaranteed to fix this problem, only, it is a good start.

  • ATTENTION ALL 27" iMAC OWNERS: PLEASE READ THIS THREAD

Hello. Firstly, apologies for the attention-grabbing title, but ultimately I need as many people to test this out as I possibly can.
Here's a basic run down of my problem: if I leave a window open on my display for about 10 mins, and then minimise it, and bring up a dark grey background such as iPhoto, Spotify, or a set desktop flat colour of dark grey, I can still see the text and display pictures semi-burnt into my screen, temporarily. They do fade after a while, but it is still annoying that it does this (I am a graphic designer, so I could potentially be working with dark images, and I don't fancy seeing my facebook messages over the top of my work).
I had this issue with the iMac which I purchased last Thursday, and I returned it to Stormfront (my local Apple Authorised Reseller) and they acknowledged the issue and gave me a completely new iMac. However, yet again, this computer has the exact same issue, which makes me think it may be an issue with quite a few of the 27" iMac's.
Therefore, I would like to ask if you, as the owner of a 27" iMac have a few spare minutes so that you can help me find out if this is a rare issue and I've just been unlucky, or if it's a wider issue with several iMac's.
Please follow the step by step guide I have created below: the burn-in effect image is not a screenshot, however I have recreated the effect on Photoshop so you know what to look for. Thank you in advance for reading this, and helping me out; please let me know what results you get from this test.
I am especially interested in users of the current Thunderbolt 27" iMac, with the high-end spec (3.1 GHz Intel Quad Core i5/4GB RAM/1TB HDD/Radeon HD 6970M HD). Please, if you own a different model also carry out these tests - your screen may have the same issue.
Step 1: Change your desktop background to a dark grey colour. Go to System Preferences > Desktop and Screensaver > Desktop > Apple/Solid Colours > Cutom Colour... > Using the greyscale slider under the second colour picker tab, enter a value of around 15%. Set this as your desktop.
Step 2: Open a white-backgrounded application. Position it somewhere on your screen (preferably the left as this is where I experience it at it's worst), and leave the application there for around 10 minutes.
Step 3: Once 10 minutes is up, minimise the window, and study the area where the window was. If you have this issue, you will still be able to make out the elements from the open window (in my case, my Twitter followees display pictures and tweets). Here is a mocked up version of how it appears, created in Photoshop. As the issue is hardware related (I think), it doesn't appear in screenshots. You can view this image at full size here: http://cl.ly/AZYD.
Step 4: Please let me know the result, and the specs of your computer. I am contemplating phoning Apple to make them aware of this issue, but wanted to see if it's just me before deciding it's a hardware issue.
For me, I think I'll wait until the next Lion update is released, in case it offers a graphics driver update. Otherwise, I guess this one will be going back too.
Thanks guys, and I await your responses.

What you are seeing is called Display Persistence.  All LCD displays have a certain amount.  Some less some more.  This includes models from the same build.  I have linked Apples response to what your seeing.  I did the setup you said and saw no persistence on mine.  If I had let it set longer I am sure it would have shown up.

If it has not got it on this phone i think that it is a shame and i doubt that i would buy it if that was the case.
So if anybody who has this phone could let me know if it has handsfree/speakerphone built in i would appreciate it.

Thank you, it didn't mention it on some sites so i was unsure. Also when i searched on the Nokia site under the find by option for the specs of the phone that i was looking for the 7390 did not come up as being a speakerphone enabled phone.

I just have to decide now if i am going to hang onto my 5 megapixel camera now or sell it as this phone is a 3 megapixel camera phone. I am not sure if i am going to need my camera as well when the difference between my camera and the camera phone is not that great at all.

Clean out/blow out the headphone jack. Insert/remove the heaphone plug a dozen times or so
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a bad headphone jack

I found an Ipod touch--how can I locate the owner?  The Ipod requires a passcode.

You can't. Turn the iPod into your local police department, or the station closest to where you found the iPod. They have resources for identifying and contating the owner, should they wish to take that time.

  • IPods screen went black but assisted touch on screen still works?

IPods screen went black but assisted touch on screen still works?  What's would be wrong?? I have dropped it and the lower volume button went partly in side the IPod (thats why i had the assisted touch on) and its been working very slowly fore the last week or so. but other then that it was fine.

With the information given, If the screen is completely black even after the reset, it's sounds as a hardware issue
    Could be : The battery
                    The charger
                   The phone itself
You can narrow these down one by one preferably.
-If you have an extra battery, test it.
-Try another charging cable or another outlet
If neither of those affect it, you can also wipe the phone, but that's pretty much the last last step you should do since it erases everything.  Then restoring it. Time varies.
If you are still having trouble, contacting your carrier, the closest Apple Store, or the technical support line for Apple.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

what do i do after downloading iOS 3.1 software and "There was a problem downloading iOS 3.1.1 software update for ipod touch. an unknown error occurred (8288). Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." comes up?

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!
    Tiffany
P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

  • How to turn off the touch interface sound?

    Model: HP Touchsmart IQ826t
Finally get to use this machine the way it was intended now that Windows 8 is out, but the touch interface sound is bothersome. Seems as though it should be the easiest thing in the world to turn off.. but I cannot for the life of me figure it out. Ive searched the web high and low..even seen others ask this same question with no response whatsoever.
How do I turn off the touch interface sound?? (the 'beep' sound made when my finger makes contact with the screen) Ive tried going to the now updated 'Pen and Touch' (previously HP Touchsmart Configurations) settings under the 'Hardware and Sound' in the Control Panel and..nothing.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
