Ipod touch 2g stuck in recovery mode like I have never seen!
I bought an ipt2 at a pawnshop today as a side project. they said that it was stuck in recovery mode, and I thought it would be an easy fix...
I have tried recovery restore
DFU restore
different computers
I got it to update to 4.1. but when it was starting up it showed the apple logo for like 2 seconds and then went right back to the connect to pc screen =/
I am so puzzled!
Go download RecBoot, kick it in recovery mode and install the firmware manually. You can download it here.

When you get done upgrading and for some reason you get and error or are stuck in recovery mode, use RB to get out of it. It might still work fine at that point.

Did you try RecBoot, it's supposed to help get you out of recovery mode! I've tried it before....sometimes it works, sometimes it does not work...Hopefully in your case it does.

When I accidentally disconnected my iPod touch 4G during an update yesterday, it automatically went into recovery mode (the screen with the USB cable pointing up towards an iTunes logo). Now it won't turn off, it is recognised by neither my laptop nor by iTunes, it won't even go into DFU, so there's absolutely no way, as far as I can tell, to fix it. I've looked all over the internet, and the only other person I can find who has experienced a similar problem hasn't received an answer in about a year. Okay my Ipod Touch is stuck in recovery mode and will not restore because "the ipod software update server cannot be contacted". I have tried to restart my computer, restart my ipod, tried different computers, and re-intalled AND updated my itunes and it still will not restore. Hi.
I tried to update the software on my ipod touch 5g, for some reason the connection was lost between the ipod and the PC midway through installing the software on the ipod, now im stuck in recovery mode.
I keep losing connection between ipod and pc since trying to update the software. Basically the connection is lost then comes straight back.
My ipod shows the lead with an arrow pointing towards the itunes logo.
Itunes tells me that im in recovery mode and gives me an option to restore.
Whenever I have tried to restore it downloads the latest software then nothing happens, just stays in restore mode.
I have tried putting it into DFU mode but nothing appears to happen after following the steps.
Really annoying as the next available appointment at the Apple store is on Monday and would like to get it fixed a lot sooner than that if poosible.

Hello there! I just recently tried updating my 32G ipod touch. Low and behold it incurs a problem and my ipod is now stuck in recovery mode. Is there anyway I can retrieve the music and photographs. PLEASE HELP!
This program may geit out of recovery mode. However, if something went wrong with te iOS and it went inot recovery mode then it might not be able to get it out of recovery mode. When in recovery mode the data is not accessable.

Sorry that I'm late to the party and too stupid not to know better when updating my ipod touch just days after the update was released, when will I learn.
I have tried nearly everything I've seen posted in this community and others ... unpluging all usb, holding down sleep and home, re-installing itunes 10.5 ... you name it.
I can't find an answer to this problem anywhere, but rather people yelling at other people for not being able to help and badmouthing eachother because they are ****** off at Apple.
Is there any updated news on what the issue is with error 1604 or why Idevices are getting stuck in recovery mode?
Are the servers still swamped and I just can't get through?
Next time I will wait about 3 months before upgrading a new operating system (but then, I think I said that the last time I did this.)
Thanks for any help.Try a manual install, as outlined in the link below. You can kick it out of Recovery Mode using RecBoot.

A few hours ago, I tried updating my 5th generation iPod touch to iOS 8. It ran into an error and couldn't update, which left my iPod touch stuck in recovery mode with a screen showing a USB cord pointing to an iTunes symbol. I tried searching for ways to get my iPod out of recovery mode without restoring it to its factory settings, but after a couple hours of seeking, I decided I might as well just restore it. I clicked the restore button, and when it finished, it said that my iPod touch couldn't be restored either. Now, I have no clue what to do. May I have some help?

Start off with some basic steps:
- Make sure iTunes is up to date
- Try another usb cable
- Try another usb port
In the article Resolve iOS update and restore errors this is what it says about error 28:
Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
