IPod Touch 2G without Software/Firmware

I wanted to give my iPod to my cousin since I got a new iPod Touch, so on the 2G Touch I did the following: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. After waiting for the iPod to erase files, I realized that the iPod was stuck on the Apple Logo. I figured the iPod has deleted it's Firmware/Software, because it is not recognized by iTunes when I plug the iPod in. How can I get my iPod up and running again?

That procedure should not have deleted the firmware (iOS). If the iPod is still stuck on the Apple logo, try a reset by holding the Sleep/Wake and the Home buttons down together for at least ten seconds. That should cause the Apple logo to disappear then reappear and the the iPod should recover.
If that doesn'tt work, and it's still stuck on the logo, leave the iPod until the battery drains down, at which point the iPod will switch off. Then plug it into power and wait for it to wake up (which may take up to thirty minutes). What happens?

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.  To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.

Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

You probably have a 1G ipod.  To get the latest iOS for that mode go to:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
It is a paid update.  You may have to use a different browser to get the sublink to work correctly.
Go here to identify your iPod:

The 2G can go to 4.2.1.

Yeah, i found the file 'iPod touch app pack 4a93.ipa' in mobile application directory, which directory in Mac should i copy to? Is it \user\<name>\music\iTunes ?
    Hi,
I think that is the old "January update", I'm not so sure it is necessary to transfer that one but it would go here -
    ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
Look here for the latest 2.0 etc. updates -
    C:\Documents and Settings\"name"\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
Even then I'm not sure even these are required but best back them up to be safe.
I'm not sure where the go in Mac OS X though.
I'm sure someone will let us know soon.

I have heard screen klean is a great touch screen cleaner. Also, a good rule for touch devices is not to use anything alcohol based!

  • Anyway to transfer ipod touch 2.2 software upgrade to latop.

I just bought the ipod touch 2.2 software and and when I tried restoring my ipod touch I get a error (unable to restore ipod, error occured at 13). I just wanted to know how to transfer the software to my laptop
    Thanks.

It seems to be a 2.2 problem. I had loaded 2.0 and 2.1 with no problem. 2.2 bricked my 1st gen 16gb iTouch. I had to take it to the apple store. They told me that it had to do the anti-virus software on windows.
I do not believe there is a fix for it. You probably will have to take it in. Prior to taking it in I had tried disabling the firewall and even removing the anti-virus software but it would not work.

  • Ipod touch itunes without email address - Have 3 to do!

    Hi!
My three young children each received a new iPod touch for Christmas.
I don't want to have to manage 3 new email addresses, passwords - and the whole hassle of keeping my kids away from inappropriate material in an e-mail account.
How can I set up each of these iPod Touch devices *without* an email address?

  • Ipod touch 2.1 software upgrade problem

Hi so i have a first generation ipod touch and i have bought the 2.1 software upgrade but now it is saying that in order to upgrade i have to wipe all content currently on my ipod.
This is a problem because I do not have all the files that are on my ipod on my computer, so if i upgrade then i will lose most of my music and videos, but i do not want to waste my money because i paid $13 for the upgrade.
Is it possible to upgrade my ipod without erasing my content?
any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance

not from about from 1.x to 2.x but mine came with 2.0.0 and i used all upgrades untill this 2.1 and i only sync'd my ipod touch 1 time
the rest of the times it does a restore and upgrade and restore the restore
if it's different from 1.x to 2.x then there

  • IPod Touch is frozen after firmware upgrade

Hi, I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch, running firmware 2.2 with Windows XP.
Yesterday I upgraded the firmware to 3.1 from the iTunes store. After downloading the installing the firmware, I got the itunes error 1601 and now, the iPod is perpetually frozen with this screen:
    http://km.support.apple.com/library/APPLE/APPLECAREALLGEOS/HT1808/HT180803.png
The iPod device is not detected in iTunes anymore. Also, the 'Found New Hardware Wizard keeps popping up and then it tries to search for the driver but cannot locate it, whenever it tries to search it comes back saying "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot locate the necessary software". I checked the Device Manager and it is not listed under one of the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" either.
I have tried the restarting Windows and using a different USB port, but to no avail. Attempts to restore the iPod also leads to iTunes error 1604.
Would appreciate any help! Thank you!

  • New ipod touch does not have firmware 2.0

I ordered my ipod touch on July 17th, after the firmware release but still have the older firmware. Am I still supposed to pay for the firmware update? I have no idea whom to pose this question to at apple. Any ideas/thoughts?

I ordered my Touch on the 17th also and it arrived with software version 1.1.4 installed. Not even the most recent FREE one!! AND I am having REAL trouble accessing email via the Touch...nothing has worked despite calling my ISP, Apple and investigating every bulletin board post that is related. NOTHING has worked to help me. Someone suggested that it might be a software glitch the downloading the newer version might fix. If my device isn't fully functional, shouldn't any updates be FREE? One would think so! I bought this in the understanding that I would be able to access email via my Touch!!

  • IPod Touch - Reinstall January Software Update

NOTE TO APPLE: Your site is terrible; it's slow and hard to navigate. Also, it is nearly impossible to contact anyone from apple; you have so many webpages that are supposed to help people who are having problems. When really they just deter users from speaking to an actual representative and leaving your customers to fend for themselves, annoyed and angered.
    ANYWAY
My problem is this, in March I purchased the January Software Update for my iPod touch. Then for whatever reason, my iPod stopped showing up in iTunes. I was told the only reason to resolve this would be to hard reset my iPod, I did this (it didn't work but the problem was eventually solved)
Now I am faced with the issue of getting the January Software Update back onto my iPod without paying for it again. The purchase shows up in your records, and the file is no longer on my computer.
I purchased it on 03/07/08 at 9:33 PM and I have both the order number and the invoice number for this purchase.
How do I get the software update onto my iPod without paying for it again?

    Hi,
Note to ...MITCHELL... thanks for your help.
    Zach,
Your upgrade should reinstall if you auto resynch i.e. turn off "manually manage music and video" and synch. I think you have to be logged in to iTunes with your original Apple I.D. also.
If not check to see you have the correct files in the right places, see this post from [A A P L|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6646337&#6646337]
If you don't have the file anymore through OS reinstallation etc. then I believe you can notify Apple through a link on your iTunes purchase page. This answer has been posted elsewhere.
    Good luck,
    Dud.
