Ipod Touch (2nd gen) drawing too much power, disable USB?

Earlier today, when my iPod Touch (2nd gen) was syncing with iTunes, it disconnected and this error message popped up:
Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device darwing too much power has been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing to much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again.
Now, my Ipod will not sync or charge. I've tried connecting other USB devices (cell phone, wireless mouse and ehd) and get the same message. I've tried a few suggestions online like: restarting/shutting down the computer, restarting the IPod, resetting the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. None of these worked. I've connected my iPod to my roommate's iMac and it connected with no problem. Is there anything else I can do before using the Genius bar?

You have a MacBook problem since it happens with all your USB accessories. I suggest you post in the MacBook forum. I do not have a MacBook so I have no ideal about the problem.

I have a brand new Macbook, just picked it up less than a week ago. I've been hooking up my 2nd gen iPod touch to it for a while without any problems, but suddenly I started to get an error message every time I plug it into my USB port:

Other devices may also have been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again."
I've been looking all over the internet for a solution to this and I can't find a thing--it's really frustrating since this laptop's brand new and I have no other way of charging my iPod.
My laptop is plugged in while I'm doing this. The error message is instant--it seems to pop up before I've even inserted the USB cable all the way. Also, for what it's worth, I just did a test and I get the error message just by plugging the USB in, even if it's completely unattached to anything.

Had the same where as soon as i Plug my iPhone into the USB Port on my 2009 "Macbook Pro"

Just Change the USB Cable.
I Just Happened to have a New USB/iPod/iPhone Cable Laying Around, so i Connected it and "Voila" everything was back to Normal.

Mackie Control Pro drawing too much power from usb?

I have a Mackie Control Universal Pro connected to my 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB rom, running OSX 10.5.4.
When I first hooked up my Mackie Control Pro (about 1 year ago) it worked perfectly. A bout 2 months ago my computer wouldn't recognize it anymore. I keep getting this message telling me the device is drawing too much power from USB port and due to that it will shut down that specific port.
My MCP is plugged to the electrical outlet and shouldn't need to be drawing power via the USP. I tried disconnecting all other devices hooked up via USB and Firewire beside the keyboard and mouse but same massage keep coming.
I checked the MCP to make sure the electrical wire was plugged in properly and supplying it with power, I also tried hooking it up with different USB cables via different ports but problem still there.
Can anybody help me out please this is starting to be a big head ache. Any help would be great.

Not 30 seconds after submitting the question I did just that. I felt stupid not thinking of that simple check. Thanks for the quick reply. It worked just fine with another cable. It appears we need a new cable for my daughter....

Why is my iphone 3g drawing too much power through USB?

I'm getting an error that my iPhone 3G is drawing too much power through USB and the computer shuts the port down. I've tried it on PC & Mac, same thing both times. Won't charge on wall charger or iHome either... I've tried turning on/off & resetting, but still won't charge. Ideas?

IPod Nano Drawing Too Much Power From USB Port

My daughter plugged her iPod into the USB port of our iMac today, something she has been doing for months and months, and yet this time she was greeted with an error message telling her that something was drawing too much power from the USB port, so my iMac was shutting down that port. I moved the iPod to another port -- same error message. I moved the iPod to another iMac -- same message. So I am confident that the culprit is the device and not the computer. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? The iPod is an iPod Nano 7th Generation (current model).

My issue has been solved. The USB cable was bad. I am unsure how to remove my question from the forum ... sorry for taking up anyone's time.

Constant error message: USB drawing too much power - no USB plugged in for weeks?

Starting about two days ago, I've been getting error messages about every 30 seconds saying that a usb device is drawing too much power, and my usb device has been disabled. I haven't had anything plugged into the usb ports for about 3 weeks, well before I started getting this error message. At first the error messages came up one at a time, but now about 5 of them pop up every 30 seconds..
There seems to be no visible damage to either of the usb ports, and I've updated software and restarted it too. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

You need to plug in the power cord that was included with the printer and then use it with USB, or use the power cord included with the printer and access it wirelessly from your iMac. I access my Canon MP560 wirelessly from my iMac, which works well.

IPhone 2G random defect - "drawing too much power on USB"

About three weeks ago, my iPhone - which then still had firmware 1.1.4 - lost almost all its charge and "died". It looked impossible to get it charged, the red battery icon was the only thing it showed. Only thanks to a tip from another forum I managed to "revive" the phone: I left it connected to the wall charger for 9 hours, then switched it on simulating a DFU-restore.
I then did a complete re-install of the iPhone's software (did it twice just to be sure) upgrading it to 2.0 and subsequently to 2.01 which is on the phone now.
Starting last week, occasionally when I want to sync or to simply load the battery of my 2G iPhone (now with firmware 2.01), my MacBook Pro answers with the message "A usb device is currently drawing too much power" and then disables the port. I eliminated the doubt it could be a hardware problem, using three different USB cables and four different Macs: the problem presents itself everywhere.
Interestingly, 2 out of 10 times I am successful when I connect the iPhone via USB to the MacBook, eg right now it is charging and I did a sync.
I think the two events are somewhat connected. Apple Phone support says the event is "strange" but since the phone occasionally works, it is impossible to get the phone changed.
I would appreciate any idea about this. Is this a hardware problem or a software or formware thing? Or something else entirely?

WD Legacy External Hard Drive "Draws too much power from USB"

I have a nice MacBook Pro running Leopard, a year or so old and I've never had any issues with it. I used a WD Legacy 250GB External Hard Drive for Time Machine to back up all my stuff. It has its own power source, and the USB cable works fine because I use it with my printer all the time. However, even with both the laptop and the hard drive plugged in, my laptop automatically disconnects the hard drive because the "USB is drawing too much power".
It didn't happen when I initially backed stuff up on it, and it plugs in and works fine with a desktop. Is there any way to disable the automatic disconnect for drawing too much power through a USB? I don't understand how that's even possible because the external hard drive has its own power source, and I just want my stuff backed up. I could care less if it ***** the charge out of my laptop for a few minutes if that means it will work. I've considered getting a powered USB HUD, but wanted to get everyone else's opinion first. Contact the manufacturer. I think the power pack for the drive is not functioning properly.

IPod touch 2nd gen can no longer buy any songs

I realise the answer to this is because the iPod touch 2nd gen is too old but I want to check. It runs ios 4.2.1 and my wife wanted to buy a couple songs via the iTunes app over wifi. Everytime she tried to buy a song after inputting her password it went through the motions but just as it changed from waiting under downloads it then vanished and didn't download. I thought it was a problem with her account but the ame song downloaded fine on her iPad running 5.1.1 and also on our laptop in iTunes.
I realise many apps are no longer compatible etc but to not even be able to download songs now is pretty disheartening. Yes we can buy on the laptop and sync but essentially the wifi on the iPod touch is a bit useless now. It might as well just be an ipod now!

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

Sometimes you have to reset the SMC two or three times for it to work, don't know why. I've seen that error message before and 100% of the time it was fixed with an SMC reset. I suppose it's possible that your keyboard or mouse IS drawing too much power, do you have access to another you could try?
