IPod Touch 2nd Gen. sync after restore

Authorized new hard drive for iTunes. Did backup then restored from back up, transferred previously purchased library to iPod Touch. Following restore, all purchased music, downloaded CDs AND games remained on the iPod Touch. Good so far.....then tried to sync device so all downloaded CDs would go out to the iTunes library, but got the message "iPod Touch is synched with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase his iPod and sync with this iTunes library? An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library." Don't want to lose the games and downloaded CD songs but sounds like that will happen if I click "Erase and Sync". Any suggestions on how to keep the games, etc.? Should I just ignore the message? Will that cause other problems? Thanks!

- Transfer non-iTune purchassed muic to the computer by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
- After everthing is on the "new" computer, connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking one the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iod from that backup.

iPod Touch, 1st gen., system software 3.1.3
I know this is an old device and there probably aren’t many people still using OS 3.1.3 but this is what I’ve got.  All was working reasonably well before I performed a restore, hoping to remedy some slowness.  However, since reloading both software and contents, I continually get the following message while performing a sync: “The iPod “Laurent Fignon” cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be found.”  While podcasts are updated, photo albums will not load before that message appears and the sync ends.  I’ve tried the restore a couple of times since, thinking that might help but I continue to see the same message when trying to sync.
Rest of the platform is MacBook Pro 4.1, OS 10.6.8, iTunes 10.6.3

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
After trying a couple of less labor intensive suggestions, I downloaded and reinstalled iTunes.  Performed a reboot.  Started iTunes.  Tried to sync the iPod Touch.  Still stopped mid-way through with the same message - "The Pod cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be  found."  As the sync had been quitting at the point where it said it was installing photos, I unchecked the "Sync Photos From" button and tried to sync again.  This time the sync finished successfully.  However, I'd like the photos from the album "iPod Touch" in my iPhoto library to be on the iPod Touch.  It is listed as an album in iPhoto and I can view the pics there but iTunes apparently can't find them.  There is no folder in user/Pictures/ called "iPod Touch".  I don't think I can open the iPhoto Library file.  Anyone have another idea?

  • Can you get an ipod touch 2nd gen working after a short circuit?

I was replacing the screen on my 2nd gen iPod touch, and when I was trying to lift the screen (not the glass, the display) out I accidentally and stupidly touched two chips (I think)on the board in the bottom left (the top two of the set of three brown and silver ones) together with a metal ended screwdriver, it made a quiet high pitched noise and then I couldn't turn on the display ( by pressing the lock button) , I would've turned the iPod off before hand but the touchscreen didn't work at all so I couldn't and looking back at it I really should've just waited until the battery died. But I didn't :(. Please help.

thanks, i actually checked it this morning and it was coming on to the low battery connect to power screen but the screen looked all messed up, i dont know if this was because of the short circuit or because of when i tried to take the screen out after i had short circuited it, either way i have to replace it anyway as it already had dead pixels, the reason i as this is because i dont know wether the other screen will work normally if i put it in, i dont want to fit it to find out it doesnt work.

  • IPod Touch 2nd Gen borked after failed OS update in iTunes

My iTouch was working fine with my PC (Windows 7 64bit) and iTunes (9.1.1.12).
I was upgrading the OS on my iTouch 2nd gen to the latest version (3.1.3???) via iTunes and the update failed after ~5 mins. The iTouch will now no longer turn on, I have tried resetting (hold sleep and power) but nothing I do can get the iTouch to power on.
Connecting to windows I get "Unknown USB device" and "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
Updating the USB device driver to the apple driver usbaapl64.inf I get "This device cannot start".
    any advice would be appreciated.

I have received a new iTouch in the post , worked fine with OS 2.1.2.
I need to update to OS3 so I installed iTunes on a different computer (laptop) with Windows 7 (32 bit) ... and ... the same thing happened. Update ends with notification of a device in restore mode, restore fails twice, and on the second time the PC no longer recognises to iTouch and can't install the drivers, the iTouch itself will no longer turn on.

  • IPod Touch (2nd Gen) Won't Restore No Matter What I Do? Not Even Force Restore?

I've tried rebooting my laptop and plugging my cord into a different thing. I've tried force restore. I've tried restoring it on different computers. I've tried using different cords to plug my ipod into. NOTHING works.

    - Try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then restore.
    - Next try DFU mode.

  • Brand new ipod touch (5th gen) freezes after restoring.

I got my brand new itouch this week - but when I went to set it up from backup on itunes I'm having issues.  It downloads the software and updates that just fine, but when I go to restore, and the itouch reboots I get stuck on the apple logo screen with the load bar underneath.   I've trying resetting several times but the same thing keeps happening.  I'm absolutely disappointed with this and I'm not sure what to try next.  This new itouch is turning out to be the biggest let down.

I ended up calling Apple and after over an hour on the phone, We retried the restore several times, including after reinstalling itunes, but no luck, so I ended up sending it in to get replaced. So basically it was a hardward issue.

  • My iPod touch 2nd gen won't restore fully

i've tried RecBoot, TinyUmbrella, etc. and nothngs seems to work.  What should I try?  I also can't do the sleep/home button thing, as it just jumps back into recovery mode.

You have already tried everthing that I know of.  An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store seems to be in order.

  • HT4972 previously used apps won't work after system restore?ipod touch 2nd gen.?

My son forgot his passcode so I had to restore his ipod touch, 2nd gen.  After the restore, many of his apps no longer work.  He had Netflix, Facebook, Angry Birds.  They now all say they require ios 4.3 or 5.0.  Does anyone know how to get these apps back on his ipod?  thanks!

Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

Try plugging your ipod into your computer. Then start up itunes. Let it load everything. Then click on your ipod and play a song from your ipod's library. Not your itunes library. If it plays the song, then go ahead and stop it, disconnect your ipod, and check the content once again.
I had the same problem and beleive it or not, this worked. I synced my ipod like 5 times before finding this answer on the web. Let me know if I need to clerify anything.

  • After upgrading iPod Touch 2nd gen some apps sync over and others do not

After upgrading my iPod Touch 2nd Gen to OS 3, skype and TextFree Unlimited sync over, but 9-Toolbox, Gas Cubby Lite, fring and TooDoo do not. They show up as installed in iTunes, but do not sync onto my iPod Touch. Is this because the apps themselves have not been updated to work on OS 3, or could there be a syncing problem?

OK..last post on this item. I found this post by ipodtouchuder1517 that explains how to move your icons around, ie page 2 to 3, etc
All is well again and I shall now resume checking out the new features my $10 purchased!

1 Touch and hold any Home screen icon until the icons begin to wiggle.
2 Arrange the icons by dragging them.

  • Nike + app missing on iPod touch (2nd gen) after restore

Memory errors prompted a wipe and restore of my 32GB iPod touch (2nd gen) system. The restore and subsequent reapplication of the 3.x upgrade produced a system without Nike+ software.
I've had considerable issues with the reliability and accuracy of the software in the past, but now it simply isn't there.
Has anyone else seen this and does anyone know how to restore that application? (Since it is not available in the app store.)
    Thx

Well, i have the same problem, but when i go to settings the nike app it just doesn't appear, so, i'm not able to turn it on. Is there any other way to download the nike app?

Please and thank you for any and all help

It means the device is in recovery mode.  You'll need to reconnect it to iTunes and restore it again.
You may need to connect it in recovery mode manually using the instructions in this Apple support document.

  • Help restoring iPod touch 2nd gen to OS 3.1.3

I have an ipod Touch 2nd gen that had been updated to OS 3.1.3. I haven't had many problems with it. The last time I had to restore it was when iTunes 9.1 was new and I downgraded back to iTunes 8.
I keep getting a message that there is purchased items on the iPod and do I want to transfer them to the Mac if not then it will be deleted from the ipod. I click on "don't transfer", but the next time I try to sync I get the same message.
I tried restoring the ipod and it keeps insisting that I should "restore and update" and I don't get a "restore" option. I don't want to update to OS 4.
The odd thing is iTunes apparently keeps tossing the iPod2,13.1.3_7E18Restore.ipsw and iPod2,12.2.1_5H11aRestore.ipsw into the trash without my permission.
I tried updating from a backup copy and this time it let me click "restore" but then apparently it phoned home to Apple and it said the ipod was "not eligible" to restore to OS 3.1.3.
I tried turning off the internet connection and then it refused to restore at all. >:(
The only thing that I can think of is that iTunes is either 1. trying to force me to buy an update I don't want or 2. that it thinks I have to update the iPod Touch because I bought an iPhone 4. >:(
I really preferred the days when we could just run a standalone ipod updater. Does anyone know of a way I can force the ipod Touch to be restored either to the original iOS 2 or the updated iOS 3 (which afterall I did pay for !)?
    Thanks.

You cannot restore to OS 3.1.3 simply because Apple has stopped signing that particular firmware. What happens is for every firmware your device creates unique keys knows as SHSH blobs. For you to be able to update or restore to that firmware Apple checks those blobs and signs them (ticks them off). However if Apple has stopped signing them which it has for OS1 OS2 OS3 O4.0 & OS4.1 you can no longer go to those particular firmwares. Currently Apple is only signing OS 4.2.1 firmware so you can only restore to that one.
Note- There is one final hope for you to restore to 3.1.3. Google SHSH blob extractor.
