IPod touch 2nd Gen went wrong today, Like... Really bad...

Hi all,
I posted a question last time about iPod touch and dodgy charging port.
Well anyways, Apple replaced my iPod with a refurbished one.
Now then... I have another problem...
I was in clas today, just listening to music, I decided to play some Max injury for awhile, I quit to my Home screen and went to go on Safari, and when it wouldn't open i went to show my friend, as i went to show him the iPod Apple logo (the one you see on start up) showed, i thought it was wierd and went to lock the iPod.
When the iPod wouldn't lock i put the iPod back in my pocket and i took it out after about 2 minutes, and my Pocket was hot, when i took the iPod out i dropped it (on my lap) from the heat of it, and i don't mean slighlty warm like i had been holding it, this was incredibly hot! the back was hot, and the glass screen was too, It was that hold i couldn't hold it for longer than 5 seconds...
I took it over to by the window and left it for during next period, and came back to it during dinner.
The iPod had gone cool by now, but wouldn't switch on. i tried to switch it on later and it turned on, but it would only display the apple logo and there was no backlight working, and it wouldn't switch off, unless i held the buttons to put in recovery mode.
So now, when i got in from school, i connected to iTunes, and the Apple logo appeared and itunes said it had detected an iPod in recovery mode, so i tried the shift + restore with 3.0 and i get errors like error 13, 2002, 1611 (or along those lines)
Now then, i tried standard restore to get to 3.1.2 and even that wouldn't work,
By now, i am not even getting any image on my ipod screen, is there any way to fix this?
Thanks.

Wow? Nobody knows??

Try plugging your ipod into your computer. Then start up itunes. Let it load everything. Then click on your ipod and play a song from your ipod's library. Not your itunes library. If it plays the song, then go ahead and stop it, disconnect your ipod, and check the content once again.
I had the same problem and beleive it or not, this worked. I synced my ipod like 5 times before finding this answer on the web. Let me know if I need to clerify anything.

  • Ipod Touch (2nd gen) drawing too much power, disable USB?

Earlier today, when my iPod Touch (2nd gen) was syncing with iTunes, it disconnected and this error message popped up:
Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device darwing too much power has been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing to much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again.
Now, my Ipod will not sync or charge. I've tried connecting other USB devices (cell phone, wireless mouse and ehd) and get the same message. I've tried a few suggestions online like: restarting/shutting down the computer, restarting the IPod, resetting the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. None of these worked. I've connected my iPod to my roommate's iMac and it connected with no problem. Is there anything else I can do before using the Genius bar?

You have a MacBook problem since it happens with all your USB accessories.  I suggest you post in the MacBook forum. I do not have a MacBook so I have no ideal about the problem.

  • Something I discovered when trying to set up my Mobile Me account to ipod touch 2nd gen

I went to set up my mobile me account on my ipod touch 2nd gen and shows the option of Find my iPod. Will the find my iphone work??? I did set up an iCloud because I got an iPhone 4s today.

    Hi jcole,
Just wanted to let you know that I did a little looking around, and the Find My iPhone app that you see under your MobileMe account on your iPod was an app that worked with MobileMe, so it is still there, but it really doesn't do anything anymore. Back in the day, you would have logged on to www.me.com to get to a map which would show your location. Today, if you were to type me.com into the URL bar, you get redirected to iCloud.com....
So, just wanted to give you an update on what it is (I found it interesting - didn't know that the "Find My" capability was there before iCloud).
    Cheers,

  • My Game Center won't work on my iPod touch 2nd Gen. It let me sign up but it won't load any of my games and won't let me play with my friends. I don't know why? Any help?

My ipod touch 2nd Gen let me sign up to game center but it won't load any of my games and won't let me play with my friend. I don't know if it's like this because it is old and slow, or what. Please help me figure this out. Thank You.

    Try:
    - Sign out of Game Center and sign back in
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • I have lost my photos from my PC. I have them only on an iPod Touch 2nd Gen.

I have lost my photos from my PC.
I have them only on an iPod Touch 2nd Gen.
How can I copy them from the iPod Touch 2nd Gen to my PC?
The software version on the ipod 2nd Generation is 3.1.1(7C145).
I would very much appreciate help in this regard.
    Thanks

    If the photos were synced to the iPod;
    - you need a third-party program like TouchCopy or Phone view to copy them to another computer.
    - Email them to the computer
    - See it there is an app available that will transfer them to your computer. However, there may not be any compatible with your model iPod and its iOS. There is the Photo Transfer app but that requires iOS 4.3 or above but your 2G iPod can only go as high as 4.2.1

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) not recognized by computer and iTunes

When I connect my iPod Touch to my laptop, running Windows 7, neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my iPod. Everything worked before with Vista.
When I plug the iPod into the computer the iPod does turn on put the battery doesn't charge and the iPod does not show on the Device Manager.
I have gone through and uninstalled and the reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application support. With no positive result. In fact I have done it twice.
In going back to make sure everything had installed I have noticed several things.
The Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes folders and Common Files are located in Program Files(x86) There are also copies of the Bonjour, iPod, Common Files, and iTunes folders are also located in the Program Files folder. Are these file locations correct?
Also, I have read somewhere that there should be usbaapl.cab, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys files. I can't find any of these file. Are these files necessary?
    Any help will be appreciated.

greetings rkonrv and welcome to Apple discussions !
it seems your have seen this KG then.
maybe this tip by Beebopp (though a little off topic) will provide some pointers:
+This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.+
    +Here are the steps:+
    +1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"+
+2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account+
+3. Single left click on START+
+4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)+
    +5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)+
+6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)+
+7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)+
+8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties+
+9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab+
+10. Single left click on " Update driver "+
+11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista+
+12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown+
+13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "+
+14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.+
+15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.+
    +16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.+
+17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.+
    good luck !

  • IPod touch 2nd gen can no longer buy any songs

I realise the answer to this is because the iPod touch 2nd gen is too old but I want to check. It runs ios 4.2.1 and my wife wanted to buy a couple songs via the iTunes app over wifi. Everytime she tried to buy a song after inputting her password it went through the motions but just as it changed from waiting under downloads it then vanished and didn't download. I thought it was a problem with her account but the ame song downloaded fine on her iPad running 5.1.1 and also on our laptop in iTunes.
I realise many apps are no longer compatible etc but to not even be able to download songs now is pretty disheartening. Yes we can buy on the laptop and sync but essentially the wifi on the iPod touch is a bit useless now. It might as well just be an ipod now!
    Cheers

    For purchasing problem
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Setings>iTunes and App Store and sign ut and sign back in
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was releases, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd Gen Battery Replacement?

I have a 32 Gig Ipod Touch 2nd Gen, bought it when it first game out. Battery has been really poor lately and I took it to the Apple Store to see what I can do. They told me that they don't do battery replacements, just replace the whole unit. I said fine, until they came back from their computer and told me that it would cost me $250! I was pretty shocked, they just smiled and said, well they are trying to encourage people to drop their old units and buy new ones.
Anyways, $250.00 to replace a battery that should cost no more than $50.00 as per any other battery I've every replaced is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. With that said, does anyone know of any options to get my battery replaced, a good place I can send it in to, I'd like to get a "GOOD" battery not some cheap unit that will die on me quick.
Comment to Apple, I don't mind paying a little extra to replace the unit with a new battery but $250 is absolutely absurd, and to hear a comment on a perfectly good unit that Apple is charging a lot to encourage people to buy newer gens is very upsetting. I was eventually planning on getting a 64Gig version but at the cost, it's just not worth it to know that these items are just disposible once the battery dies! I hope you consider changing your policy in the future to something more reasonable. However old it is, any other product I have costs me a few dollars to replace the battery and I get good use out of it for a very long time!
    Thanks

In the USA, Apple would charge $79 plus shipping for battery replacement:

This place will charge $35 plus shipping

  • IPod touch 2nd gen won't let me get Apps

    Hi,
I have an iPod Touch 2nd gen that is operating 4.2.1, and it no longer has App Store, or iTunes. This means that I cannot download any apps or even access music downloads. I have synced with the newest version of iTunes, and the App section is grayed so I cannot access it there either. Therefore, my Touch is reduced to an mp3 player, and I didn't pay for an iPod to just play music! Any suggestions??

Sounds like Apps have been restricted.  Head to Settings -> General -> Restrictions and make sure they are turned off.

  • IPod touch 2nd gen will not open in iTunes. Ideas?

I upgrading the latest version of iTunes and I went to sync my iPod touch 2nd gen to get my latest podcasts and it would not sync or even recognize in iTunes. My PC recognizes the drive. But iTunes is a no go. I suspected it was just the latest version of iTunes so I downgraded back to the previous version and got the same results. I've switched USB ports, cables and have restarted numerous times. I even uninstalled the device from the device manager but nothing is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
