IPod touch 2nd Generation Sync and iOS question?

So...my iTunes 9.2.1 told me iOS 4.2 is available, when I click update I get the iTunes 9.2.1 is the current version error, Okay I spoke with an iTunes rep about this and he says update to iTunes 10.1, Well I have a windows xP My mom's computer which I updated to 10.1, my question is _+*If I install iOS 4.2.1 on my iPod touch 2G throught iTunes 10.1 on the windows will I be able to still sync it with iTunes 9.2.1 after the iOS 4.2.1 is installed, so I may restore my backups and my apps etc and even sync new music?*+_ When I asked the iTunes rep about it he said yes after update the iPod should still sync with iTunes 9.2.1, has anyone tried this as of yet? any Help is much much appreciated. Thank you~

Awww....I see...So I MUST buy Leopard.....its all cool then.....if I did update on that PC I'd have to start from scratch right? since I cannot sync back to the Mac afterwards?

iPod touch 3rd or 4th gen can go up to 5.0.1 (and future updates).

  • My Ipod Touch 2nd Generation Froze And Is Trying To Install ALL Of My Apps!

A few hours ago my ipod touch 2nd generation froze, and then it took about 15 minutes to unfreeze. Now it's working very slow. I soon realized that it's trying to istall ALL of my apps I've downloaded since I got my ipod. I had to attempt to shut off the wifi so it would stop. right now over 25 apps are on Pause. I don't want to restore my ipod because I last did a backup about a few months ago. My computer is out of memory, and it's a very slow computer. I recently send an email to apple because of an issue I had with two missing itunes store purchases that it deleted off of my ipod when I connected it with itunes. They never emailed me back and it's been over 24 hours. Could apple be attempting to send me back ALL of the things I've purchased and downloaded with my account? If they are, IT'S NOT FUNNY

    - First try restoring from backup
    - If problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If still a problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Touch (2nd Generation): Erase and Reset all contents before selling

    Dear all,
I have an iPod Touch sencnd generation and I am about to ship it out to someone who has bought it online. I want to delete *all* the important info I have on this piece of hardware and reset it to the default settings. I have gone through the following steps so far: settings > general > reset > "erase all settings and contents."
But I wonder if with a sophisticated software someone can still recover my previously stored passwords and private materials on this iPod Touch. How is it possible to completely zero out the hard drive just like you'd do on a computer? How reliable is "erase all settings and contents" by the way?
    Many thanks,
    Ron

I would be satisfied with what you did.  The iPod touches use Flash storage so there is no hard drive.  You can tr erasing all contents amd setting a few times since that overwrites existing data.  From the Users Guide:
Erase all content and settings:  Connect iPod touch to your computer or a power
adapter. Choose General > Reset and tap “Erase All Content and Settings.”
This resets all settings to their defaults and erases all your information and media:
Â On iPod touch 3rd generation or later:  by removing the encryption key to the data
(which is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption)
Â On iPod touch 2nd generation:  by overwriting the data
Important:  You can’t use iPod touch while data is being overwritten. This can take
up to four hours or more, depending on the model and storage capacity of your
iPod touch. (On iPod touch 3rd generation or later, the encryption key is removed
    immediately.)

  • Ipod Touch (2nd Generation) freezes and locks itself during game play.

While playing Diner Dash on my Ipod Touch 2G as the game action intensifies the machine locks itself and/or slows to the point that I have to wait several seconds for the processor to catch up.  This makes it very hard if not impossible to play the game.  The symptoms seem to mostly happen in games such as Diner Dash or Bejeweled.  Sometimes the same symptoms will happen in other apps as well.  They seem to get worse as the processor load increases.  I have the latest version of itunes installed as well as the latest OS update (4.something) as of 7/13/2011.  I have tried restoring the machine, uninstalling and reinstalling various apps, and turning off anything that would burden the processor and memory.  Nothing has helped much.  The machine has been buggy like this since it was new.  We sent it into Apple and they said nothing was wrong with it.  Also, there is no damage or abuse involved.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Put it in a baggie and completly cover it with rice. leave it there for a week+ and it should work.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd Generation Syncing inconsistant

Having worked well for 12 months, my Ipod now will sync from the Music Library successfully, but Audiobooks in the books library it will not even recognise, except for one. properties and settings don't appear to be different. No problems until now!
    Any ideas please?

Nothing has "happened".  That is about right.
The OS takes up some space and the way memory is reported on most all devices, including your computer accounts for some of the discrepancy.

  • HT1386 I have just acquired an iPod touch 2nd generation 8gb. It says it syncs successfully with my computer (vista home) but will not down load albums I have bought in itunes and downloaded to my computer. Help!!!

I have just aquired an iPod Touch 2nd Generation 8GB. When it is connected to my PC, running Vista home, it says it has synced successfully but I can,t transfer onto it an album I have bought and downloaded from iTunes. Help!!! This is my first Apple product so I have no experience and no manual.

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer? If so you can only use the manual method and that only works with music and videos.

I tried to restore my ipod touch 2nd generation  and now it won't sync to itunes.    On the screen is the USB end of the cord and the iTunes logo over it.
I have turned it off and on,  held the off button down and  the select button down but it still comes up with that picture on the screen.    Have I broken it?
    Please help.

It means the device is in recovery mode.  You'll need to reconnect it to iTunes and restore it again.
You may need to connect it in recovery mode manually using the instructions in this Apple support document.

Sounds like you actually have a 1st generation as those cannot update beyond iOS 3.1.3.

All you can do is get a newer model iPod. The 2G can only go as high as 4.2.1. Its hardare does not support a higher iOS version

  • I have an iPod Touch (2nd Generation) and it's running iOs 4.2.1.

Is there any way I could update it to iOs 4.3 or later? With 4.2.1 theres no good games nor apps to use! If I go to an Apple store could I update it? At my school we use iPod touch (2nd Generation) and it's updated to iOs 4.3.

"Is there any way I could update it to iOs 4.3 or later? "
    No.  Sorry.
"f I go to an Apple store could I update it? "
    Still no.
"At my school we use iPod touch (2nd Generation) and it's updated to iOs 4.3."
No it is not.  This is not possible,  Ipod touch second gen cannot run anything higher than ios 4.2.1
