IPod touch 2nd generation with iOS4.1
I upgraded my iPod touch 2nd gen to iOS 4 and then 4.1. Ever since then it is noticeably slower than it was with 3.1. I know Apple does not support "downgrading", but would this scenario work? My son has not upgraded to iOS4 yet. Would it work if I connect to his account using my iPod to get back to iOS3?
1. Connect to his account and "reset to factory settings"
2. Select to manage music (sync) manually (Don't know if this step is needed).
3. Go back to my account and sync. I would get my music, photos, etc back.
I would probably have to set up my email accounts again.
If it's out of warranty, do a Google search on downgrading it.

I have this problem.. and after spending time at the Genius Bar yesterday, I discovered that my old ipod touch is obsolete..( the Ipod touch is a 32.bit system, while the newer operating system is 64... so they're simply not compatible.)
I expressed great dismay that my perfectly good ipod touch was now obsolete... then the genius suggested I export my contacts and calendars to Google..
That was easy to do, and then, on the Google community forum i learned about nuevasync.com, which lets you synch all of this back to your ipod touch via Exchange.
WOrked like a charm.
Nuevasync. com is free for an initial trial (10 days?) and then costs only 15$ per YEAR.. so I'll use this as a good work-around -

All you can do is get a newer model iPod. The 2G can only go as high as 4.2.1. Its hardare does not support a higher iOS version

iPod touch 2nd gen can go up to 4.2.1.
iPod touch 3rd or 4th gen can go up to 5.0.1 (and future updates). -

I have a 2nd generation IPOD Touch and I am having 2 problems. One is the button on top. I cannot get it to mash with the circle on the front of the IPOD to do a hard reboot of my system. You need a newer model iPod, a 4G or 5G. The 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1

How can I sync contacts in my address book to my iPod Touch 2nd Generation with iTunes 10.5.2?
My iPod Touch with OS 4.2.1 will no longer sync contacts from my address book on my computer now that I've upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2 and to Lion. I have ensured that the iPod Touch is set to synchronize all my contacts. The calendar continues to sync.
I have the same situation. I believe I disconnected iCloud by going into preferences and also unclicking the box for Contacts. What am I missing?

When I plug the usb cord into the ipod touch and my macbook pro and then open iTunes, the sync screen on the ipod doesn't show up and iTunes says that the iPhone is sending an invaild message. What should I do to remedy the problem so I can sync my iPod with my iTunes library?

Ipod touch 2nd generation with NO wifi after restore to factory settings
I think we have a 2nd Gen. ipod touch... it was the last version before cameras. We took our ipod touch in today to set it back to factory settings got it hook up to itunes and now there is NO wifi available under settings it says wifi not highlighted and than NO WI FI. we were able to connect before so i know this version has it. Just not sure how to get that back on the ipod. Thanks for any help you can offer!!

Then restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

I have had my ipod touch 2nd generation for 3 yrs. Now its been a year with this problem but i never seem to get it fixed because i lost my warranty and repair certificate a year ago. So the problem is whenever I put in a headphone jack for some reason only the right head phone or right speaker works not the left, but when i place the ipod on the docking port both speakers on my stereo work.
Now I have taken great care of this thing. Never lost it. I assume that a connection inside the jack port is pushed in from debrie (forgot how to spell that word) because, I always place my ipod into my pocket. The only way to get the left speaker or headphone to work is to push on the headphone jack so it tilts, then the left speaker works; but when i release it the left speaker or headphone turns off or stop making sound. So i know its not wiring problems its the connection for the headphone jack to the ipods jack's connection for the left speaker. Though microphones work.
My question is can this be a DIY or do i have to take it in to a local apple store. Problem i lost the warranty and protection repair form or license 2 years ago. I have had no problems with my ipod at all these years until this problem has consisted to happen since last year.

I have just aquired an iPod Touch 2nd Generation 8GB. When it is connected to my PC, running Vista home, it says it has synced successfully but I can,t transfer onto it an album I have bought and downloaded from iTunes. Help!!! This is my first Apple product so I have no experience and no manual.
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer? If so you can only use the manual method and that only works with music and videos.

Try downloading apps on your iPod (not on your Mac or PC). Apple now permits downloading "last compatible versions" of some apps.

They have some limitations though. They have paid versions that remove those limitations -

There are still some apps compatible, with the 2G. Also, since September, Apple has now allowed download the last version of apps that were compatible with the 2G but have been updated to no longer be compatibles
